Shout out to every single one of you who was there until the bitter end of the OG server sunset. That was some of the best Halo I’ve ever played. No gaming experience will ever come close to this era of Xbox 360 Halo. This was more than a game - it was something you grew up with. This shared experience is ours forever
Plenty of good shooters have come out since then but nothing has matched the multiplayer of halo 2 and 3. The attention to detail bungie had back then, and their willingness to support the game after launch is something we might never see again in a modern shooter.
Problem with H3 is the lack of customizability. The game wasn't meant to be played competitively and lacked a few options. For awhile before an update, you couldn't adjust the plant timer on the bomb in Assault, it was instant no matter what. There's no real map editor and Forge was never truly meant to make new maps, just create variations for weapon placement and such (which it does pretty well). As a result, everything turns into Warlock/Midship-like maps in Forge with rarely anything new being created. I like H3 as much as you but the community needed more tools to keep this game alive, and MLG not switching to Reach.
Derrick Hobbs Could you adjust the damage of individual weapons? Could you edit strafe speed and normal walking speed individually? How about having more than one type of custom powerup? We were able to adjust a lot about Halo 3, and thankfully we landed on good settings, but we couldn’t have everything we wanted. I’d say that the lack of a true map editor (and admittedly poor networking on anything but LAN and even then you’re still occasionally getting bloodshots) is what makes this game prone to stagnation more than individual settings. We’ve had MLG v8 forever now. It’s time to change, and hopefully with 343 adding modding support soon next year we can get that.
These were the glory days of gaming. I have never played any game as much as I played Halo 3 and Reach. Matchmaking, Forge and Customs games (fat kid, JengaTowers, Mexican bull, ghost busters, cops n robbers, and countless other game types and maps). Man I miss that shit so much...
You can still play homie . The community is coming back believe it or not. Watch single halo clips on YT also. I play MCC everyday, always find games, I always find games on competitive doubles, H3 Team, and H3 team hardcore. You’d be surprised the OGs are still there. As for MLG, sad what 343 has done to halo with the new ones like 4 & 5 . Halo used to be one of the best competitive games ever now it’s a meme
MLG is just another level! I don't know how they can concentrate on aiming while they're constantly relaying information to each other at a lightning pace!
It’s just practise and being inherently built to play games a bit better than most. Same for any competitive sport. You need the natural talent to go pro, and then you need the practise, because there’s 1000’s of people out there with the potential. That being said, when they say you’re the best in the world, there was only truly a limited field who could truly compete with you.
This was the peak of fps games. The genre has since devolved into tedious subgenres that either involve playing rock paper scissors with overpowered abilities or wandering around a pointlessly big map in an agonizingly slow elimination scenario.
Such a different play style to today’s game, slower pace, slower aim sensitivity, seems human… Today everyone has insane aim, and the game speed is just so fast…
I’ll never put as many hours into a game as I have put in H2 and H3. I’ve been playing both since their releases and I play even more on the MCC there’s no reason we can’t make them last forever IMO. The peak of gaming.
