You mentioned soaking your axe head in water, someone over on Bjarne Butlers vid mentioned soaking his axe head in some old antifreeze/coolant (not sure which you call it over there in US) but here are in UK 🇬🇧 we call it antifreeze. Can’t say I’ve ever tried it but might be worth a go 🤷🏻♂️👍

Water will make the wood swell causing it to hold the head on tight. I think I'm past that point now
