I don't usually simp in the comments, but... This channel is super underrated. 1. Neil is great to watch. Even though I'm older than him, I aspire to be like him, I really appreciate him (as a person) and his work. 2. Whoever is running the camera and editing, you are killing it. These videos have a great vibe. 3. The shop is amazing, dream material.
I appreciate that brother...we take time out of our busy schedule to create free content for yall. The more support we get, the more we can produce! Mahalos! 🤙🏽🙏🏽
Let's be real, forging a kukri that well with that shape is f'ing HARD! I've tried many many times and never really gotten exactly what I wanted out of it. The problem I have seems to be in the pre forming and I think I learned a LOT from this video on how to move the steel out on the front of the blade to get the chunky part right. Excited to give it another try.
Awesome that you are all going to help another maker that has given so much to the knife making community! Safe travels and enjoy Nashville. It’s my hometown
so greatful for the high quality videos and the knowledge that just spews out as you work. Love the modern twists but the knowledge and respect for the past. Thank you Neil!
i still dont understand why you only have 28k subs this channel by far is 1 of the best here on YT i just love how you explain everything this is going to help mewith my forging skills cant thank you enough Neil cant wait to watch part2!!!! Mark
I dig the way you explain your process. I know F*^k all about forging, I am a wood turner. My point is that you explain things in a way that anyone can understand what and why you are doing something. Not everyone is a good teacher but you certainly are. Thank you brother.
Absolutely fantastic instructional video. I have been forging Kukris for a couple years and this has seriously helped my game. Thank you Neil, you’re a forging master
As always the blade looks awesome! Huge thanks Neil and crew! I really appreciate how detailed you describe and show your processes! I also find it inspiring that you and others step up and help others!
Very nice i knew you could forge a bad ass kukri. Sorry to hear that you were sick during this video hope you're doing better. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us all godbless and be well.
I'm really enjoying these style videos, watching the process in real time is awesome! I'm learning a lot and appreciate that you're sharing your knowledge! 🤜🤛
Great video! Your way of teaching how to forge is so much more enjoyable than most. I’ve watched Jason do the same thing but your version helped me more. Your whole attitude and the banter in the shop is inspiring. Maybe after watching this one several hundred times, I’ll get it right😂. That blade has been scary and that’s probably why mine don’t come out right. I’ll try your method next time. Thanks for the great instruction! Keep it up. Also thanks for helping Mr Steve, he’s an inspiration to us all
Mate so good to watch very good blacksmith its my favorite knife as well . As unwell as you are it was fun to watch love your shed will keep watching cheers
Dude! So glad I found this video and your channel!!! Absolutely amazing work! I know where I’m coming next time I want to get schooled in this craft! 👊🙏
I grew up travelling to Kailua-Kona every couple years. I've been there enough to know that stretch of Ali'i Dr like the back of my hand. Its fun to now be learning about my new interest from someone that grew up there. You're also the Japanese/Hawaiian version of my Filipino tattoo artist. Neck to knuckles in tats and super chill haha this channel is great
Been forging everything tip to handle. Ive done a couple of kukri's but the next one will be handle to tip. Me thinks that is a mo easier way. I cant thank you enough for these vids. Uber inspirational and uber motivational. The educational value is unmatched, imo. Forging to shape allows you to enter that zen state when perfecting the profile. At least it does for me. Quick heats and uber light taps are a calming and peaceful state of existence. I happen to have 4 ft of 80CRV2 2" x 1/4" and Im now itchin to try another kukri but handle to tip this time! Forge On!!! ps I gotta say that your input on the Paragon kiln is spot on. I tried to use that touch pad and Im 6'1" and 250 with big ol sausage fingers. I cant even hit the right letter which was a nightmare trying to enter my WiFi password. Only took 20 tries and I could not hit the delete key so I had to start over and hit cancel when I hit an incorrect key. I notice there is a calibrate setting for the key pad and I really hope this helps with fat fingeritus. Kind of excited to heat treat to a specific Rockwell hardenss as I will test different ones to see which holds up to the most abuse without failure.
First off, thanks for the great content. I am curious how you can make your business viable. I've been making metal for over 10 years, and there is no way I can turn a profit that would make it viable. I thought about making some blades that are not forged. Just grind the shape. But, to be honest, it feels like cheating. Any advice? Sorry for any spelling mistakes. I can't find my glasses.
AHHHHHHHH😁😁😁😁😁😁😁 I LOVE SEEING A SMITH ACTUALLY USE THE PEEN OF A HAMMER IT'S SO RARE!!!!!!! There is no such thing as wasted metal, if you have a bit of excess, you cut off...save it in a scrap bin, and throw it in a canister later, or forge weld it with other scrap pieces, make something small out of it. 🤔... i think i make tips different than a lot of Smiths😅 its the last thing i do before beveling. i like to hot cut a section off so that section is the edge and then hammer it to shape i want it to be if it's too long I will do another hot cut. I hate having to grind the shape of the tip.
Great video. But I wonder.... how can a bladesmith afford those costly machinery... Coal double press, powerhammer, HT oven etc... ? I would love to have it myself, but even though I sell my knives at a good price, Im not even close to being able to buy such nice tools.... how do you afford it?? 😅
So much contradictory statements depending on who you watch. Some say if your blade curves upwards while beveling, you arent hitting it right. I wish i could see the old school smiths at work. I guess if it works its right?

I respect how Neil says "I have the luxury" but the truth is he has EARNED the luxury with dedication and choosing the road less traveled.

I really appreciate this demo! Would love to know the actual time it took.
I can forge a point too but I'm with you, I usually cut my bars at an angle so I don't have to worry about it.
This will no doubt be a sweet piece.
