they do this so they can make more profit by extending video length and diluting content, notice how most videos are just above 10 minutes-- the minimum ammount required to monitize a youtube video
It just occurred to me that the guy who calls the names (Roger Tilling) could just be a recording when the contestant presses their button. But when he was saying "Papaphilippopoulos" he gets more excited each time he says it!
I guess that is the reason they didn't automate this - towards the end there is always more energy when shouting the names. The show does not have many other devices to increase the pacing.
Must disagree. His protests are good-humoured although not patronising, which is why so many think he's snooty. He simply comes from a generation where one didn't patronise people and didn't always ascribe mean motives to others, didn't look for something to be offended by. When people didn't take themselves so d*mn seriously. And what's noticeable is that the contestants (top students in top universities) take his banter in the right way. Only commentators get their knickers in a twist.
@@castelodeossos3947He is an awful host. Rude and he most certainly is not good humoured bit I agree not patronising but very condescending. Only he didn't nail the pronunciation of hapax legomenon. He actually said hapax legomenenon. And he admitted as much himself in a later interview. He knew he blew it. That's actually why he's laughing so much.
Benjamin Franklin did live in London in 1774, it's not inconceivable, that as a very important person of that time, (he was representative of the colonies) that he on some occasion gave a speech in the houses of Parliament. So even though he did'nt, it's not the most stupid wrong answer
I'm so annoyed by that amount of commentary, I'm blocking this channel. It's the only way to teach these youtubers a lesson. There's many other youtubers that don't love the sound of their own voices.
You keep saying that, but it’s not true. It’s perfectly possible to assemble a montage of clips without infringing copyright (other channels manage it without any problems); and in any case, you can surely agree the sheer amount of commentary is unnecessary and spoils the viewing.
My enjoyment of these clips is completely destroyed by the WatchMojo person talking over them. I am almost impressed by how low WatchMojo has set the bar on content. Simply terrible.
Monkman is a real freak, harmless maybe, but he could rip you to bits with a dirty look. Monkman and Seagull was a wierd show, if you haven`t seen it, look it out. Paxman could be incredibly rude sometimes, not a nice man.
Oh please! There's more "talk over" than content in this video. I had to stop watching after the first couple of clips. Could we have just had the clips, without the annoying commentary?
Just saw one of the funniest deficits in knowledge in the 2022 Christmas series (York and Durham) when a team could not answer from which 1975 film a quote about supreme executive power being derived from the masses, and ‘not some farcical aquatic ceremony’ comes from. If you ever do another list watching the 4 alumni try to work it out is almost as funny as the original quote, particularly as Paxman mentions it is referencing the Arthurian legend.
@@Hue_Sam Yes Tom Scott was on that episode, but was the other team who missed the reference. It was funny, they all looked completely bewildered. Although, to be fair Tom’s team missed a few obvious ones as well.

These would be a lot funnier if you just showed the clips instead of talking throughout in your odd commercial tv voice.

How could you not put in Monkman's hilarious 'He who lives by the sword shall perish by the sword'?
Paxman made this show. Suffering fools gladly is one thing he is pathologically incapable of... and it's awesome.

Vowels are overrated
he was named after the static in a garbled radio transmission
Bruh, how relieved is Tyszczuk when he sits next to Papaphilippopoulos.
