Why I Hide My Girlfriend

- I do not reveal the identity of my girlfriend on TH-cam for various reasons and this largely has to do with the negative effects of having a social media presence. The reasons I outline is not only important for the standpoint of my girlfriend but for anyone with a social media account or aspiring TH-camr. All this from my personal experience of having a traditional job while juggling being a TH-camr at the same time years ago.

Francis, we missed your good humor and unique style. Glad you are back and in good health. Your girl friend is your business. Privacy is very important. Good to see you back.
Its weird how random people online can be so invested in other's lives, I don't blame her for not wanting to be in the videos. But listening to your points it reminded me of something very important for 9 to 5ers to remember: people at work are NOT your friends. HR is not your friend. Your boss, no matter how chill, is not your friend. HR and your boss first concern is to the business. If you as an employee is doing something that they think could distract you from your work, or takes away your productivity or could be a threat to them (like having a TH-cam channel) they will do what is best for the company, not you.
As an INTJ female, I don't blame your gf for not wanting to be in your videos. Valuing privacy and peace of mind is way better than everyone knowing your every move and personal business. If my had a bf who was a youtuber, I would do the same without a doubt. No need to explain to anyone, it's a personal choice and the two of you can enjoy your private lives in peace.

speaking of YT privacy, yeah my regular day job co-workers know I do videos. it's a little embarrassing at times being almost 30, but I'm glad my faith/work ethic has kept me consistent. I wish youtube could be my livelihood but I'm nowhere near there. but we'll see because I just have to keep going. in spite of this being about privacy with youtube, this was somewhat inspirational. Thank you

I totally relate to this video. Heck I have a TH-cam video but never show my face in videos. And it's actually really hard to do that, hell I have to redo some videos because I'm accidentally in it. But yeah, I just don't want myself to be shown in front of a bunch of random people.
There are many risks involved so you have to bear the consequences if you ever show your face.
@@BeatTheBush Exactly! I'm paranoid. Also there's no Edit-=> Undo. What stays on the internet stay there forever.
@@Dracomies yup. If you are that paranoid though, make sure you have no mirrors or glass, including camera lenses that will reflect back to your face. Or a shiny or glossy surface or a counter top or accordion can reveal your face. Maybe wear a mask, cover up any tattoos while filming and a hat, just in case something was not caught in editing.
@@tilasole3252 That's why I have to redo some videos hahah and it's a pain! Sometimes I think, oh the hell with it. But yeah, sometimes there's a bottle there and it's me on it then I gotta redo the whole video ahah.

Great advice on privacy at work. I’ve seen coworkers get raises and bonuses greater than their coworkers because “they needed it more”.
Lends itself to giving hints how you need more... I'm not saying lie but rather when things happen, let people know you need more money! Like new roof? Mention it in the weekly one-on-one! Heck yeah!
My side income and investments I keep them away from my W2. Same with social media. My boss from my W2 asked if I have one and to link it up with our company and I simply told him that I do but I prefer to keep my personal and business lives separate. I have now started a 1099 for nights and weekends recently, totaling 4 income streams and this too, is not known to my W2 to avoid any conflicts.
Make social media accounts with your real name. Link those. And say, I don’t use them. No time.
Those are exactly some of the reasons why i decided to not show myself when i recently started to put some of my music on youtube. The other side of the medal though, i guess there would be a lot more views if i would put my face on it.
Of all the social media platforms who do you think pays the most for content?
Not sure, I haven't used all of them. I think it depends on how good you are at monetizing.

If I ever started a TH-cam channel for any kind of income, even before what happened that I already mentioned, I would either not show my self at all or at least wear a mask or something. I just like my privacy. But a lot of people, in order to feel comfortable, needs to see who is the person they are subscribing to or giving donations to. It helps to get "acquainted" so to speak. But ehhh... Besides a very small group of people I'd feel comfortable with, I rather I didn't.
That also reminds me of a digital artist. She would always draw her self as the avatar of the video. She had extreme anxiety, which hopefully went away by now, as she does or did begin showing herself on the videos. But you also don't want pervs of either sex commenting poorly either, which undoubtedly will happen. Either compliments, rude comments or straight up perv ones.

your reasoning is exactly why I do not post my face on my videos and or my photo here and name can not identify my gender . one will only see my cats or dogs as well as in past having a stalker whom ended up in jail ,. for their actions
My wife is a TH-camr too and I always ask her not to show me haha
Someone at my job found out about my channel and next thing you know the whole office knows about it. It's super annoying because now coworkers see me differently. It changes how people interact with you some better some worse. It can definitely be used against you as well if you are not careful.
P.S The channel is not this one I am writing this comment with.

That’s why the concept from the tv show “Severance” is so brilliant… if in the future employers can separate your work self from your non work self. Albeit not always a pleasant experience for you. The real question I have is if your gf eventually becomes your wife and you guys get married… would you ever combine your finances or always keep it separate? 😮🤔

@@BeatTheBush thank you! the bad thing is that it’s quite difficult to get any kind of sponsorship compared to channels where you show your face. Companies prefer more personality I guess. I’m thinking about launching a separate Vlog channel for a year now and already produced some videos. Just need to overcome my fear launching them.
People start FREAKING over my "girlfriend" all the time as well. The reality is no ones cares if you're broke, so just keep working/making money/whatever you do. Time after time again, everyone wants to know about the girlfriend. Then, the money. That's all people care about: Girls and money. In short, no need for anymore drama bombs. Just don't tell anyone, period.

The problem I had when I started my own business : enviousness. When you only make a small amount of money people are still nice. But when you start to make serious money - people will try to derail and hinder your business .
