Even easier: just possess the purple ninja again and again; when you think his time is up or he has taken enough damage, just get behind him and R1+R1 to possess again. I did it 3 times during the fight.
Even easier: when you posses the puppet quite the game and load your save again you will find that the purple one (aka the one you possesd) is gone and the black one is giving you his back so you go over there for a death blow and fight him the normal way
I would have kept my distance and thrown the Shurinken to interrupt his attacks. Also, you can reset your puppet after 30s, he'll fight till Vilehand is dead.
lone Shadows are pretty easy to take care of, they are basically the same as the purple ninja but with 2 moves extra, and both of them u can avoid by stepping back
Keep following the roof tops like the first time you were in Ashina castle until you get to the rooftop where you beat Genichiro, Which is the building right at the end If you go down from that rooftop and look around you can find it. If you mean you are still at the part where you are locked out the Ashina castle then you need to got the Abondoned dungeon entrance and follow until you get to a green river then you can dive in the green water and find your way to the Ashina castle rooftops.
@@BradyPartain I think this fight is purposely set up so you use the possession ninjutsu, without it the fight is ridiculous. In such a tight space, these enemies, especially when they're boss versions are close to impossible to fight effectively two on one.

He didn't counter the sweeps either. He didn't know the basic ninja attack pattern yet. How did he get this far? Probably avoiding them.
