    This is making me want to hop on my bike and just go! I was born and raised in Plaster Rock, and even worked at the park you stayed at when I was in high school. It's changed a lot over the years, but it's still a great rest stop. Thanks for sharing all of that beautiful, amazing scenery! Cheers!

    Absolutely beautiful scenery!! I love to hike and camp but don’t bike, and it looks like I could do this route in my FJ! Loved this ❤ and subscribed from Tennessee! (at least for a few months, then selling house to travel full time woohoo!)

      Glad you enjoyed it and yes this route is completely rideable in just about any vehicle. If you’re into hiking the Nepisiguit Mi'maq Trail is a 145 km hiking trail that runs from Mount Carleton Park to the city of Bathurst.

    I am originally from Miramichi, been living in Vancouver for many years, about to retire… Seriously contemplating a bike trip around New Brunswick. Although I’ve been home tons I really appreciate the province, now that I’ve been gone for so long. I would love to cycle through plaster rock highway, or along the coast from Miramichi to Monkton.

    • @DonRousselPhotography
      @DonRousselPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really enjoyed the Plaster Rock to Renous highway. If you’re biking between Miramichi and Moncton I would say avoid Hwy 126. Hwy 134 is more scenic and safe. Hwy 11 is most direct but very boring.

    Great ride. I'm planning on covering your route next summer. Mt Carlton looks beautiful. You've sold me on New Brunswick. Ordinarily, New Brunswick has always been a passing through place.

    • @DonRousselPhotography
      @DonRousselPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad to hear that, if you’re coming from or going to Moncton just avoid route 126. Heath Steel to route 180 can be a bit rough on narrow tires. Hope you have a great trip.

    I've done a lot o touring in Scotland and some in Northern Europe. When it comes to touring bikes, I believe that steel is the way to go. My tour bike now is a Surly LHT, its heavy but, I think indestructable and I fit that out with Tubus racks,steel, I have had Aluminum fail on me. Its a pretty bomb proof set up and it has to be, equipment failure in the outback is double unpluss bad. Zip ties do play a role, as does paracord but the best insurance against equipment failure, is strong equipment, over engineered, like Tubus, Surly etc. The weight penalty is the best insurance u can buy.

    • @DonRousselPhotography
      @DonRousselPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with what you’re saying however I simply don’t have the budget for high end brands like Surely and Tubus so I just make due with what I have and go for it.

      Hi Don In mid July I'm stinging together some rail trails I've wanted to ride for sometime. Starting in Goderich on lake Huron I'm taking the G2G, Elora Cataract, Caladon Trailway, New Tecmseth Trailway, Thornton - Cookstown trail, then roads into Barrie and catch. The Simcoe loop, roads over to Collingwood and get on the Georgian trail to Owen Sound there I'll hop on the Georgian Bluffs trail to Shallow lake then roads home to Southampton. 655 km. 2521m elevation plus roadside attractions.

    Great video of a great tour! I do similar tours from my hometown of Edmonton. Just did a loop from Edmonton to Jasper, Banff and back to Edmonton this summer (2023). I've been looking at the roads around Amherst lately since one of my pipe dreams is to do a cross-Canada tour with Amherst as one of the main points to see, since my Grandfather on my Dad's side was born there. Have you ridden around that area? If so, any tips or good routes to take?

    Looks like a great time, Any chance you can gives us a rundown on some of the gear you used?

    • @DonRousselPhotography
      @DonRousselPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video. As to the gear I used there’s nothing too exotic. My bike is a 2012 Rocky Mountain Metro 10. I changed the handle bars to a set of Cinelli double trouble and put on 700 x 32 Schwalbe Marathon + tires. I could’ve used wider tires for the gravel.
      Panniers are Thule
      Most of my camping gear is from Bass Pro and Amazon, nothing expensive or special.
      The video was shot with a Panasonic Lumix GX8 with a 14mm - 140mm zoom and an iPhone 12 mini.
      Deity D4 mini microphone.
      The editing was done on an iPad Air 3 using LumaFusion editing software.

    Thanks. Since you didn't mention it again, I assume the para-cord repair held up the rest of the trip? I'll have to add some to my cycle-touring repair kit! Also, there were lots of insects visible in some of your shots, but you seemed pretty immune to them. Result of long-time living in N.B?

    • @DonRousselPhotography
      @DonRousselPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the questions, I did forget to mention the paracord later on in the video and as a matter of fact it held up well and I didn’t have to touch it again. As to insects, I’m probably more immune than a lot of people however you may have noticed me scratching a lot. Thanks for your comments.

    Though it is the travel that is more important than the means, I am just curious about the bicycle you used. Which brand and model was it ? Did you make any changes on it ?

    • @DonRousselPhotography
      @DonRousselPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a 2012 Rocky Mountain Metro 10 with aluminum frame and standard Shimano components. The only changes I made were replacing the straight handlebars with Cinelli double trouble bars which are kind of like Jones bars and put on Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires.
