February half term continues with a trip to Peterborough, where we weren't allowed to film in the cathedral, but Andy did get to ride in a lot of lifts and watch the buses while we waited for Anna to finish her interview at the passport office. When we got home, it was time for Andy's first haircut of the year, which he still hates, and then we opened some awesome gifts from our PO Box, including something from Chewigem (link below) and a comic book about an autistic boy.

ABOUT THE CHAPMAN FAMILY
Hello folks and welcome to The Chapman Family! We are Kevin (dad), Anna (mum), Lucy (age 16), Andy (age 14), Amy (age 12) and Dave (around 35 in dog years).
We're daily family vloggers with new videos out at 5pm every day UK time. We vlog about our daily lives, including life as an autism family (Andy is autistic) and lots of nerdy stuff because we just can't help ourselves!

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CHAPMAN FAMILY
When Kevin left his full-time job as a Computer Science teacher in July 2017, Anna was trapped in our house by our son Andy, who is autistic and had refused to go to school for 18 months. Our daughters Lucy and Amy and our dog Dave hardly saw him because he was always working to try and solve all our problems! Today we're full-time content creators and Kevin is always at home when the kids get home from school (all our kids!) and Anna has been able to return to university. This channel is the story of my family's ongoing journey as family vloggers! Previously known as lollujo Vlogs and Kevin Chapman.

I know it's stressful for Andy, but have you ever tried getting a haircut into a routine? So say for example, get him to have a haircut every 10 weeks? So then he knows what to expect, knows when it'll be etc. It might not work but I know he likes to have a set routine. My Nephew has autism and has scheduled haircut every 6 weeks, he's much more accepting to it as it's now part of a routine

My son has autism and haircuts used to be difficult but last 6 years we have gone to same lovely lady who gets us in on our own my none autistic son also gets it done we do it every 6 weeks this ensures routine and also there's no dramatic change in actual feel of hair which also helps

i think the best part of ASD is that we're often very easily entertained lol. free entertainment is everywhere for autistic kids. for andy, its elevators, buses, and churches. when i was a kid (and still now tbh) i would do the same thing in pet stores. my mom would take me up there and let me and my brother take pictures of the critters for hours haha
How are you going to approach shaving or maintaining a beard when Andy is old enough to grow facial hair?
my autistic younger brother hates hair cuts as well and we were supposed to get one today however he agreed on having it on the weekend therefore I understand your "struggle"

Haircuts were a two man job around here a few years ago too. Now, somehow, he basically does it himself. He likes having more control over the situation. Yay for Andy making such a massive stride!

Working with young Autistic adults, I've already found great insight and ideas from the 1st video I watch, that can improve my role and their support. Awesome hair cut Andy ❤ Our Shay displays all kinds of avoidance tactics- even said he wanted to grow his hair like Bob Marley. After his hair cut sesh he usually wears a hat and puts his hood up on his coat when we go out- even if it's 30 degrees!

I love chewing things, and sucking things. I have adult dummies and chewygem chewies and I love them so much.
I bought a chewigem necklace as I am autistic and often bite my hands, it really helped and they do make the best stuff!!

I got used to hair cuts as I was forced to have them every 3- 4 weeks and after a year I started to get used too it

Evening champman family. I no how Andy felt. I’m an adult with ASD and I hate having my haircut. It’s such a stressful stimulation overload. Afterwards I always have to decompress. By sitting in my room for an hr away from everyone with the curtains closed and my ear defenders on, to try and limit the stimulation, and so is have time to “unscramble” my thoughts. I’m sorry I already have my chewigem subscription. But if I need to buy any extra ones I’ll make sure to use ur link. 💙💜

It’s interesting the different ends of the spectrum, my autistic son LOVES haircuts 💇♂️ and last week stood looking in the mirror messing with his hair and said “ugh, I need a hair cut” 🤣

Have you tried letting him play on his ipad whilst Anna does his hair or anything like that?
I gave up the fight and let my 9 year old son grow his hair. School rules are that boys with long hair have to tie it back, hes alright with that.

Fluxotine is fine to take with you abroad, when I was on it I would take it in my hand luggage with a copy of my prescription from the doctors just in case. I'm on stronger medicines now and I do the same when travelling in the EU

I never liked having my hair washed or my hair brushed as a child by hairdressers or family members. I was petrified of hair dryers because of the noise. I still have sensory issues as an adult but now it is due to having to sit a chair for long time having my hair done, the odours of hair spray, perm etc. What I do not like about having my hair cut is the feeling of cut hair falling down my back and I am 55 year old autistic adult.

My fidget cube arrived
I'm still so confused why Anna couldn't just get a passport did she tick the box saying she wasn't born here or something when I needed my first passport and everyone I've known has always just filled a form about 30-60 days later a passport arrives.
You have to go for an interview. I got my first one in October last year, I had to go to the passport office and get asked the most ridiculous questions you could ever imagine, What colour is your neighbours car, where was your first job, How do you get to the nearest greggs to your house, it was like 25 mins of questions that you would never ever imagine. Then my niece who was applying for hers had to go through it all aswell.

Normally you need an interview if you havent had a passport before and your 16+
I had an interview while born in British Hong Kong in 1992 and when I moved back I had to changed all my passport details and stuff i remember the passport office and home office people coming to us. Fairly nice people
You should be fine to take medication with you as long as it’s in a clear ziplock bag and put in your hand luggage. But take a copy of his prescription as evidence just in case

I do my son's hair twice a year. It is almost time again. He slowly spins in a circle and screams and cries. So yeah....he isn't a fan either lol

One of the biggest causes of failure in all walks of life is the "if its not broke, don't fix it" mentality. I'm always looking for ways to improve. Anyone expecting our channel to be the same next year as it was last year is probably in the wrong place...
