I’ve been a veterinarian for 35 year and as soon as she stood up I suspected that she has a torn cranial cruciate ligament. I’m gonna bet that the former owners took her to their vet and got an estimate of 4 to 8 thousand dollars to fix it. They probably love her a great deal but didn’t have the money to fix it. They were way too embarrassed to admit it so they listed her as a stray. You give me hope for humanity Rocky. Hopefully this will help get the girl to a vet. Is there a better way to send you $$$. I know the TH-cams takes a pretty big percentage of donations.
Pitbull dogs are sent from heaven ❤❤❤ my girl was by my side every second of my recovery from a broken neck and quadriplegia. Even though I can kinda walk now, she won’t let me go down steps without her. She would let me hook my arm in her halter and she would drag me into the middle of my bed then sleep right next to me. For almost 3 years she’s been there for me ❤❤❤
Kelly is wonderful. Her gentleness and love matches yours. Just see her giving love to this loving, hurting beautiful dog. Congratulations on your excellent choice of a wife.

So glad she was adopted. I was ready to do whatever I needed to bring her home. Those eyes just had me choking back tears. My heart broke. I haven't felt this pulled to a dog since I lost my 3 year old boy 2 years ago to kidney failure. She really got to me. You're a wonderful human being for doing what you do.
Adopted already? That is fantastic news!! ❤ If you go to Rocky’s website and read the story, there is a button link to “adopt” - that is where it says that she was adopted. I hope there’s a follow up story on what was wrong with her hip.
@@bayareagrl4ever526 They aren't trying to make a profit and the staff working there aren't getting rich, you do know that, right? It is a non-profit open admission shelter. They take in strays and I'm willing to bet if someone can't pay a fee to surrender their pet they aren't going to turn them away. People abandon dogs because they are lazy and don't care about their animal. It isn't the fees causing them to abandon a dog.
Yes, it is. Also, because I am seriously falling in love with her and we already have three great dogs, all rescues! My daughter got us into pitties and they are the best dogs in the world. I'd so love to have another one! So glad she has a home. I do hope it's a good one!
@agrl4ever526 Oh yes, that's a good excuse 🙄 So tired of that same old tired excuse. How about taking care of your own dogs? Dumping them while using money as an excuse doesn't make me feel any better especially when I'm pretty positive they all have $1200.00 phones, drink starbucks every day etc. This nonsense that everyone is destitute is bs, but please keep making feeble excuses for these losers. You dump any dogs lately? I wonder why you think it's ok for these poor shelters and rescues to keep taking these dogs in like they have money pouring in from the sky but get mad when they have a fee to take care of YOUR dog and turn around and be the first to complain that they are putting them to sleep. But it's ok as long as the alleged "poor" people don't have to use their money. Yep, that makes sense.

My daughter adopted an American Pitbull Terrier from our local shelter that had been there a while. This girl, named Zena is nothing but a big bundle of kisses and love.
My fiancee and I was going to foster the Staffordshire Bull Terrier that's in my picture from a shelter, which my fiancee and I had fostered numerous times. But as soon as we met him, we fell in love with him and decided to adopt and put the paperwork in there and then. Zeus was rescued from a life of abuse and being used as a bait dog by the police and RSPCA in the UK. Zeus was a bundle of love from day 1 and celebrated his 15th birthday a couple of weeks ago.
My dog's name was Hannibal I had him for about 13 years he crossed the Rainbow Bridge how about 2 years ago I miss him a lot he would wake me up every morning to go outside. He was a sweet dog😢

P Ward and Sparkling Water, I can't. 🥺 I live in a tiny condo on the 3rd floor. Bigger dogs shouldn't be caged up in a place like mine. 😭 If I had a house with a backyard, I would go get her! Don't get me wrong, dogs shouldn't just be thrown in a backyard either. They need to be taken for long walks as well.
I’m sitting here with my geriatric pibble, just sobbing for Star. I’m taking you up on your offer to match my contribution. She deserves a real chance in life to love and be loved. My boy and I are rooting for her. ❤
That is torn ACL, our pittie mix just had the surgery for the very same injury and had exactly those symptoms. I've been a firefighter for 35 years and I watched this vid and was balling my eyes out. She reminds me so much of our baby the way she was behaving. I can tell she is an awesome loving animal and deserves better. I was so glad to see that she has already gotten adopted.
Oh man I am so glad to hear this. I lost my 13 yr old pit boxer mix In October and I’ve cried every day since. I’m out of work right now and couldn’t afford to take on any expenses of owning a pet as a responsible pet owner. She’s a beautiful dog.
@@ShikokuFoodForestACL = anterior cruciate ligament, it connects the thigh bone to the shin, so her limping is a big clue. It's a common injury in humans especially athletes, so I imagine it can happen with a rambunctious dog.

We are in love with Star! Actually, we adopted her younger brother (almost identical) about 6 months ago. He is the most amazing dog. I loved hearing you say how misunderstood the breed is. They are the most loving, affectionate and intelligent dogs! Wish we could adopt Star, too!!
“I really just don't know a sweeter dog than a Pitbull” somehow it's gratifying to hear that from you :-) I grew up with ten different dogs throughout my childhood, lots of love from all of them, the last one was a Pitbull and it was really a surprise how much sweetness they can give. And the Eyes!
@@rhondamaddox6636 well they are extremely protective, family is everything to them, they will stand in front of a train for it. unfortunately they do not discriminate if you sell drugs and go armed, you are still family and in the 90's they started to be very abused in this sense.
I remember myths about their jaws being involuntarily locked. completely wrong, they are just big and muscular and if they consider a train a threat they may not hesitate and try to stop it. on the other hand, you can let a baby play with a pittie's tits and it will be completely safe. they're just execptional. :-)
@deb6853 there are so many resources and low cost clinics for that reason. Shelters will even give food and medical for free to keep dogs with their families. Clearly you have dumped your own dog, who you didn't consider a family member, and are continuing to justify it to yourself. Don't bother. There's no excuse.
You're all such wonderful people for donating!!! I hope all this money goes to helping the dogs and financing vet costs!!! Thankfully Star found a new owner!!! Otherwise I'd have come from the Netherlands all the way down to California and taken her home with me 😅😅😅
I love how she just gazed in Kelly's eyes when she came in and started petting her...❤. Happy to read below that she was adopted! What a sweetheart!! 💖
Rocky when you showed us Flip's keyfob and said it was too soon, I thought No, you just need to find the right dog. You said it yourself "Star is perfect." Kelly seemed very taken with her and Star obviously loves you. You are receiving lots of donations towards her vet bills. Could she be the one?
Are you forgetting someone? Their blind dog, Kobe? Rocky has also explained in the past that he did not think bringing in a new dog would be in Kobe's best interest. ❤
Cried right out the gate!!! So sad and doesn’t know where her family is now and why she's in a cold/ lonely place....a shelter. She's sweet, loving, playful (I could see right away!!) & needs people to love and to love her. Blessings to Star ❤

After i lost my house to Hurricane Harvey in 2017, none of my friends or family would allow me to leave my Black Lab with them, as i was moving into an extended-stay hotel for a few weeks. The hotel only allowed service-dogs. I was preparing for my fur baby and me to live on the street, before a friend finally allowed my baby to stay with her. There was no way i was placing my poochie *back* in a shelter. She is my child. She's brought so much joy into my life. Thank you Doc for the special work you do. You are appreciated. ♥
extended stay hotels allow dogs, in fact they are required to allow even emotional support dogs. if they say only service dogs, you say it is a service dog. people make such a drama out of things like this, when the solution is so simple. i am glad you didn't give up the dog, but this was so simple to solve. rocky is not a doc, he actually means really well, but he is such an idiot with dog behavior. it is nice to see someone who cares, but he is as dumb as the floor he is sitting on.
@@yogiluneYes, it is WAY TOO aggressive, and plain rude! I admire Rocky for the time and effort he gives to these “poor” under appreciated dogs. He does a whole heck of a lot more than the commenter, I’m willing to bet. Bless Rocky, the shelter, and all the deserving animals that end up there. Bless them all!
she is gorgeous!!! i just cannot find sympathy for anyone who says, 'yeah, we just don't want her anymore!' the only sympathy i have in this situation is for STAR, who is the star and will find a better, more perfect home!!
Pit bulls are so mis-understood. The majority of them are just as Rocky said, so sweet. our pit bull was dumped about 1/2 mile from our house. We tried the usual "found dog" posters, listed her in the local paper. and eventually we had to take her to a local shelter, because our (pre existing) beagle was totally against having another dog in the house. And I WILL NOT tie a dog out in the yard. The shelter was able to help us get our begal to be ok with another dog. and after about 2 weeks (I went to the shelter every day to spend time with the pit bull. I wanted her to know she wasn't just being thrown away again. There is one "thing" about owning a pit bull. They are VERY ENERGETIC, and NEED a LOT OF EXERCISE!!! After about 4 or 5 years, ours finally settled down enough that we could skip a day between exercising. Ours was very good with our children. sadly, she grew old, and developed cancer. So we had to euthanize her. That was HARD, but she was suffering, and WE could not let her suffer any longer.
That is very sad . The donkey that Mary and Jesus rode don't you think he is still with Mary and Jesus today . He was the first fur baby that I know of in their home . So if Jesus has his fur babies there then I think we do to .
What a good shelter to help your dog get used to the pittie. Thank you for providing that fur-baby a loving home. I am truly sorry for your loss. I rescued a pittie that was in a pen 24/7. He had a miserable life. I was able to talk the owners into letting me have the dog. Within a week he started coughing up blood. Turns out he had heartworms. After more than $900, he was treated and given a clean bill of health. He's never been very active and I'm assuming it's because he was never played with as a puppy 😭 and because the heartworms slowed him down. He is older now I give him lots of love to make up for those previous, so called, owners. He is a house dog now and will always be treated like our love bug.
Star has a very calm energy. She would make a great therapy dog to visit pediatric wards of hospitals. I can see her being a great buddy to young children in a family, too. Such great news that she was adopted. She captured my heart watching the video and I knew she would be adopted.
I don’t believe that the owners know nothing about her injured leg! Something is not right with this story and Star deserves better! Rocky I so appreciate your empathy. She is a sweetheart, I hope someone finds her soon. Please be sure to see that her leg gets better. I’ll pay for her Vet service, let me know. Take care of her please!
@@Cloxxki What a stupid question! Then they should have been honest, instead of leaving her in a night locker they should have taken her in the daytime and been honest. The leg is classic torn ligament. It could have happened anytime as dogs have such a high pain tolerance. I 🙏 this beautiful animal goes to a good home & gets her leg fixed. ❤

I struggle watching these videos without weeping! We’ve had 4 adopted pitties - two are still with us. They are truly lovely and affectionate dogs. One of the reasons they’ve been used for fighting is they are generally NOT aggressive toward humans but instead just want to please us. Fighting dogs are abused - that’s how they get them to fight. Thanks for being such a lovely ambassador for the breed Star! And thank you Rocky and your lovely wife for the tremendous work you do.

I would not be surprised if her injury was a result of being kicked. The fact that she has no positive reactions to her name indicates she did not hear it often or in good circumstances. Looks like she’s been bred; maybe that’s why the owners tired of her, they kept a puppy….
I actually went to the shelter 2 days ago and i saw her actually she is such a sweet lovable gorgeous stunning precious girl I wish I could just hold her and show her all the love she deserves

For almost 3 years she’s been there for me ❤❤❤
Wishing you and your furbaby a wonderful summer and many happy moons. Y'all are both blessed.
They are really all about their people.
I am so happy you found each other, you sure have been through a lot. The Lord God Almighty is good, all the time.
They also put alot of people into heaven.

She is so pretty!!! I can't have a dog so I help others.
My rescue is a tripod and she has no idea that she lost her leg. She is a whippet and runs like 30mph in our yard. Happiest dog ever.
Aww 🥹 I love whippets. They are one of my favorite breeds
Glass half empty or half full? She is obviously from the glass half full school. And she loves you 'cause you accept and love her as she is!
Have a "tripod" German Shepherd - was badly abused but an absolute sweet heart now.
I have a little terrier tripod named Ilean. They don't waste time feeling sorry for themselves and get on with it.

Kelly is wonderful. Her gentleness and love matches yours. Just see her giving love to this loving, hurting beautiful dog. Congratulations on your excellent choice of a wife.
Some people do not deserve a dog's love and loyalty. How can you dump such a sweet pittie? Please keep us updated about Star.
Fr, it said shes already adopted on the website 🧡 i hope her new parents can heal her broken heart, shes so beautiful and sweet, just sad looking thru her eyes 😢🧡
SOME People? Actually MOST people don’t deserve dogs love.
My theory is that her owners knew they couldn’t afford the vet and thought the shelter would take care of it
@@JazzfromOz exactly, medical care is almost unaffordable in US. Some families surrender their pets because can't pay the vet bills.
@@IFChi1904Unaffordable vets in the US!? My mother used to drive to the US from Canada because the vet was WAY more affordable. What cost $30 in the States cost almost $300 in Canada!

❤ If you go to Rocky’s website and read the story, there is a button link to
“adopt” - that is where it says that she was adopted. I hope there’s a follow up story on what was wrong with her hip.
People abandon dogs because some of these shelters charge a lot of money to take the dog. The. SPCA in Monterey wants $250.
It isn't the fees causing them to abandon a dog.
really?? yay!!! happy for her
Thank you for bringing shelter pets and shelter issues to the attention of so many! ♥
I have 2 pit-mixes myself and highly recommend more people give them a chance. They are more loving than so many other dogs.

Poor darling... I'm so glad to hear she's been adopted already! It's terrible for her humans to have to turn her in, she was clearly a well-loved dog.
Pit Bulls are absolutely wonderful dogs until they suddenly and unexpectedly rip your face off.
@@holzmann8443 That's with their tongues. Mine is really vicious with his love and kisses. As you can see in my picture, he's a hero that was rescued from a life of abuse and used as a bait dog for dog fighting.

How do you know this lovely dog has a torn ACL? I have no idea what an ACL is. Is this injury common to pit bulls?
@@lizard389 possibly a lower-income family that couldn't foot the bill for the surgery & were embarrassed by the fact they couldn't help her.
@@ShikokuFoodForestACL = anterior cruciate ligament, it connects the thigh bone to the shin, so her limping is a big clue. It's a common injury in humans especially athletes, so I imagine it can happen with a rambunctious dog.

Agreed. I've net maybe a dozen stranger pittie's and everyone was sweet and loving. Where'd that ridiculous rep come from? Geez
:-)
How could anybody "not want her anymore"?!!! What a gorgeous girl. She just needs medical attention and her furever family! ❤
@deb6853 there are so many resources and low cost clinics for that reason. Shelters will even give food and medical for free to keep dogs with their families. Clearly you have dumped your own dog, who you didn't consider a family member, and are continuing to justify it to yourself. Don't bother. There's no excuse.

It's so sad. They were probably thru with her, like a toy they were bored with. She needs someone who really loves her.
You and your family are wonderful people ❤
What a good shelter to help your dog get used to the pittie.
You make me cry.
You sent her over the Rainbow Bridge yes, but she flew on winged feet that grew from all the love you showered her with.
This one got me. I cried from beginning to end. I can't even watch any more of these...Another one that I would take in A HEART BEAT

What if they went to a vet and were given a number higher than the price of their house and car combined?
@@Cloxxki What a stupid question! Then they should have been honest, instead of leaving her in a night locker they should have taken her in the daytime and been honest. Like Rocky said, it’s still sad but there are kinder ways to do this. They could have called the Humane Society or the shelter for advice about what to do.
Rocky take her home. She is such a beautiful soul. She would be a loving pet and friend to Coby.🙏
@Cloxxki really doubtful. If the injury were serious they could have opted for amputation instead of expensive treatment. Dogs do well on three legs.

BTW, our one little pittie (who btw was the fastest!) had several ACL surgeries and recovered beautifully
I just found your channel I'm sitting with my fur baby Maisy, she needs to get used to bigger dogs, we're really enjoying your content and I'm so inspired and grateful for what you do, thank you to you, your team and your beautiful wife, beautiful work and truly heartwarming content. Keep up the great work! 🐶🤎
The best is that This Sweet dog has surely never been abused. This makes Adoption very easy. She is sooooooooooooooooooooooo Sweet!
How do you know they didn't abuse her? The fact that they act like they don't know why she's injured is suspicious.
I would have a hard time leaving without her!
