Nice picking man! I have a 7-Pin Best (not coremax) that I can pick to control all day long, but simply cannot get it to operating no matter what I do. I really should pick that lock back up again soon.
One should note that the core he picked is the M series of the Best Cormax, where the key he used, a J1 keyway, can be used in the Best Standard J keyway cores. Same goes for K L and M keyways.
if you find out a secret on finding out the operating sheer line in the amount of time that has passed since the making of this video, please help me out. i found a discarded best lock, which was able to spp to control twice, not able to get the operating. i have been thinking of drilling out the caps, threading the chambers and turning it into a challenge lock. i dont have keys and unable to gut it and to attempt to decode the key pins for new keys to be made. any tips you have to help out is appreciated
Yup, Best Cormax has 4 exclusivity levels. The one he picked is a non exclusive core. The small "1" on the back of the core indicates this exclusivity level.
No not really. Peterson makes a tension tool with special teeth to try and turn the control portion of the housing. I made one but I didn't have much luck with it. It has to be a specific size to fit certain keyways as well. So the one I made only worked for some.
I got some from l0ckcr4ck3r (Finch Wrenches); using them the chance for a control pick is higher. But I had more luck when the core was not in the lock. So not really realistic ;-)

for the most part I think it just depends on what shearline you hit first when SPPing. When I rake them open it's all random.

Good job, great pick and a really cool function that I had no idea existed.
Looks like the FBI has cleaned house here too. LOL.....
Nicely done. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Excellent video my friend I am still trying to get control before I drill .😎
Thx very helpful 🤘

Apparently these can be issued with a customer exclusive keyway.

Nice picking to control. Can you influence to which shear-line you pick it?

+RJ Robert James I have the set of three from Peterson and I haven't had any luck with them. I just grab the normal tension wrenches these days.

+Tahoe Picked I haven't had much luck with the sfic tension wrenches either. I've given up on them.
Awesome work!
Thank you sir
Great job! I have an old Best lock that I cannot even pick! No key either!
Same here. I hear a couple pins set but that's it...
Very nice picking ... and very nice lock to
Thank you. I love BEST
Love me some CORMAX. That's a tame keyway. Looks like J1 or K1
Very good. J1. Not the hardest lock to crack, but also not the easiest. They have some good tolerances.
Could you open these with a Kronos multipick gun?
Atleast it's not WG keyway now how in the hell can I get my pick around that... Lol
They have these on the doors
What is the tool you're using on the bottom to "protect" the lock? why is this necessary?
creak22 he’s just protecting the lock from damage because it’s a specialty core
He's protecting it from him pushing the lockpick against it.
so break the lock down in frame after u pick it. I want to see the pins. bullshit
