I am planing a winter hike in Lapland around Kiruna in Jan/Feb 2015 ... What temperatures could i expect to encounter..?

Kiruna city is not cold. If you go outside in the wilderness and villages you can get under -30C. But it really depends on the weather condition. Usually middle of january it's the coldest time. This year in january I got -40C and the maximum was -35C. Really cold. Sometimes you have -5C only and foggy crappy weather. Bring warm clothes!

VicariousReality7 the polar night will be over beginning of february and you will have enough sun to do adventures and see the countryside.

I don't live in Kiruna. People work most for the LKAB. Tourism stuff like guide is also very popular. Maybe have a look for busdriver for long distance services.

At what time was the video filmed? because it's not dark at all, there is a twilight. Was it shot in december or another month (I can see the video was posted on the 30th dec but is it also when you shot it)

the footage was filmed at noon on christmas. It was polar night at that time (blurry blue lights for 1-2 hours). Polar night isn't completely dark. The snow reflects.

      Thanks for your reply.
I suppose one has to be way further north to get total darkness the whole day. Svalbard perhaps?

For real just beacuse it is twilight that does not mean you can see anywhere you walk especially if you are outside the city.If you ask me i think that this still does not count as daylight beacuse the sun never rises above 6 degrees in Kiruna between December -late January in Kiruna.
