+54living The hardnes you are refering to is only related to the Mohs scale, wich is based on the ability of hard minerals to scratch softer ones. Diamonds are 10 in the Mohs sclae despite they brake easier compared to jade, so when we refer to hardness we refer to other elements as well. Jade IS extremely hard and some jades, like black jade is very very hard, some samples I have cut were 8 on the Mohs scale and even harder than many rubies I have cut and this is due not to a number in the Mohs scale, but because jade mineral arrangement makes it difficult to cut even when diamond discs are used.

You may confuse with impact action & abrasive action. I was born in Burma & my family is doing jewelry business in Burma so far (I'm not Burmese citizen anymore). As far as I know, jade must be polished with bamboo (especially in HK). Ruby & sapphire (corundum group) are Mohs scale 9. Of course harder than jade. About the precious stones, what people value is hardness, colour, light reflection & of course flawless (clear, no crack etc.). Chinese like green colour (even north & south are different, the northerner like dark green & the southerner like light green). But for Burmese, they like diamond & ruby, Mohs no. 10 & 9. They don't like jade. That's what I know about Burmese. Recently, I learnt that, in Burma where the jade producing area (Pha An), landslide & over 100 miner are killed. Anyway, you may have much more experience than me about jewelry since you're cutting the jades. Anyway, better refer to minerals from Geology books.

Why worship the jade stone? Are we forgetting it's creator the one true and living God. The God of Isaac, Jacob, Abraham. God desires a relationship with you his creation. You may have all the riches of this world but if you don't have a relationship with your creator what good is it all? It is empty. It is all in vain.
