I finally found it. The version of this symphony that I first heard and that made me love it. Every other version that I've listened to of Mozart's 40th irritiates me for sounding rushed. This is the perfect tempo.
exactly. now they go so fast its almost like a trill in the beginning so annoying. Beauty is mysterious by still sensible. Though I wish it would still be slower
@lenglain: Yes, especially Neville Marriner-but even Karajan, no less! Somehow-just somehow-only Böhm seems (to me!) to get it “right.” -And it’s not just about being slow; he moves fast in the finale *while maintaining* that sensitivity!

This right here folks. This is the exact recording that introduced me to Classical Music when I was 5. After that day in March 2005, there was no coming back, it transformed me, gave me just what I needed and shaped the person I am today. Thanks, grandpa.
Mozart's G minor symphony is a veritable masterpiece. Few things in life are perfect, but this is one of them. Nothing is too slow or too fast; nothing is too loud or too soft. Although I am a great admirer of Karl Böhm, my favourite recording of this piece is by George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra. But, the most important thing here is this great creation by Mozart. Once you begin listening to it, you are swept into another world. It is utterly hypnotic. As Schopenhauer espoused, great music like this symphony is one of life's great gifts.
I know the very latest recording Böhm made of this work (for DGG too, but conducting the Wiener Philarmoniker). I think it is better (what's is a real achievement), even far better. In it, maestro Böhm uses broader tempi, what makes evident the fundamental strangeness of this symphony, much often forgotten. There is in it a sense of contradiction and deeply hidden sadness, obscurity that few conductors reach to understand, not to mention the mainstream listeners. Anyway, this is a great performance of a work that plays in another league.
I don’t know man... ..there are so many wonders that came from this most genius of composers..and I will probably never hear everything this dude wrote ever in my life... I HAVE spent a hot minute with the genre as a whole I suppose.. I spent a LOT of time with Hindemuth and Stravinsky..Brahms and Max Bruch..Mahler and Shostakovich..I had my time with “The Five”...my favorite of the “ heavyweights” had always been Beethoven.. ..and yet? Mozart’s 40th. Has haunted me my whole life..and additionally,I had never heard an interpretation from Karl Bohm until this post..on “Duetsche Grammaphon” no less!!! Thank you for posting... It means the world to me to find this on TH-cam tonight.
Guitfiddlejase it is one of life’s blessings to be able to enjoy such powerhouses as Mozart’s 40th and Beethoven’s 5th without the intrusion of ringtones and cartoons. Chapeau bas!
7:54 finale I movimento. 25:46 finale IV movimento.

my father had this vinyl record. I heard endless times in my childhood, beautiful memory brings me this symphony.
Our parents' music will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Maestro Karl Bohm - the best Mozart performer ever !!!
Beside Bruno Walter, his senior teacher ! best regards, ktr

I agree about the Szell performance, although his allegro assai is too fast for me. This one here retains the dance rhythm, and Mozart's good humour.
Karl Boehm excelled in this symphony and in 41 Jupiter..2 top masterpieces of art in classical’s.
Incantevole esecuzione del secondo movimento.
Bravo K. 550! I will buy this album TODAY.

life is short music is long - Karl Bohm died Mozart symphony is still playing
Slower compared to most versions, but it really lets the music breath.
That the way it should be! Maestro Bohm - best Mozart performer ever!
he has soul , at last a version that kicks you

Una perla la dirección orquestal. ¡Bravo!

much LOVE Kimmyssong
Better than Toscanini no one could ever play this symphony

Get a job!
