What's up guys! My training and nutrition goals are off to a great start in the New Year! Feels great to be in a solid groove with both. I had a nice few requests to do this "grocery shopping" style video after my upload with Bro Jeff, so I was wondering -- is there any other type of video you'd like to see from me or any specific topic you'd like to see me cover? Always looking for ideas. Hope you all have a great weekend!
I like your philosophical improvements regarding animal products. But still quite slow given who you are (a coach, a high-protein dieter/bodybuilder etc)
You said you don’t eat a lot of meat. What do you do mainly for protein then? I’ve been decreasing my meat intake as well and have added more eggs, protein shakes, and deli meats (wraps) instead of actually cooking meat and it has made a big positive difference to my adherence. Thanks in advance if you end up responding.
Out of all the fitness youtubers, you’re definitely the most down to earth and genuine. You’re not out here setting up an image or brand in any dishonest way. You just seem like you genuinely want to help us
Free range eggs are only marginally better than caged eggs. To have “free range” on the label, all they need is access to an outdoor area, which is usually a small door that leads to a concrete yard. Eggs labeled “pasture raised” are the most ethical, chickens get 104sq ft of space to roam, and because they are foraging for bugs in the pasture, the eggs are much more nutrient dense
Although I'd argue there are ethical issues with all animal products, to call an egg free range in America the farmer only has to let the chickens have access to the outside for any period time at all during the day (could be just one hour). I would suggest finding a local farm where you know the chickens are kept in a good environment. (Or just cutting out animal products all together ;)) I think it's great that you're thinking ethically about your choices Jeff.
@@samedmondson5001 Wow, a comment about cutting out animal products completely... I like! I've been whole foods plant based for five years now and it's a lifestyle that will never go away.
I actually love the videos where you candidly grocery shop and prepare meals. You’re so low drama with your diet/food prep and you have such a healthy mindset with food, it’s very refreshing. I would love more videos like this!
That grocery store advice on staying on the outer lanes really blew my freaking mind. I'm just sitting here with the video paused thinking back to every places I get my groceries at and how spot on it really is. Wow!
@@dudeabides3860 Sticking to the outer sections of the store. Around the middle is where they keep more of the processed stuff and snacks. All grocery store are not he same but I think this applies to the most

I love how realistic this is. I love eating fruit and it annoys me when fitness people keep trying to convince us that fruit isn’t important or that good for you. It’s nature’s candy. I love it
Fruit is probably my favourite food beside ice cream in this world . I like cold snacks and fruit is healthy .. it’s definitely not the worst snack you can eat that’s for sure
It's refreshing to see someone actually buy AND show the foods that other people tell you to stay away from. Real life nutrition includes the foods you love, and I really wish more people would let themselves have the foods they love without feeling guilty or shame about it! So thanks for including those things, being honest that you actually have them, and for including them in a video about fat loss too!
@@REALAIEMPIRE well I don’t know him personally so I can’t comment on the steroid thing ;) but anyone should be able to eat a wide variety of food and still be able to obtain their health&fitness goals was my main point that I still stand by. :)
Eggs in order of freedom of land available to chickens: -conventional (never go outside and virtually no space) -cage free (a little more space, still don’t go outside) -free range (have outdoor “access” but may still never go outside; check your brand) -pasture raised (best for you and chicken, typically have at least 108 sq ft. per chicken of real open grass and sunshine) Pasture raised quality compared to conventional or even cage free is like night and day!! Compare side by side for yourself and you’ll never go back to conventional... worth the extra few bucks per carton for health and ethical reasons imo
Great explanation. I always get pasture raised for these reasons. My little cousin just got chickens and was super excited at Christmas that she was selling pasture raised eggs not free range!
Yeah pasture raised have access to more insects in their diet and plants i think? This leads to the eggs having half of the usual cholesterol and a lot more omega-3
i came from steph’s channel after recovering from an ed and now ive been focusing on strength training and getting stronger this year and i honestly love both of ur channels so much for different reasons. im totally much more of a fruit person than a vegetable person and i don’t eat red meat like that and it’s so good to see someone who is strong and informative who eats like this as well. awesome awesome awesome content
"Free range" eggs has definitely become a marketing ploy these days. Companies just play on semantics to circumvent what it implies. If you want 'guilt free' eggs look for "pasture raised" eggs, or source them directly from a farm (which is a rather difficult ordeal for those of us who live in urban areas).
Its a bit of a ploy, but at the very least unless the company is doing something illegal the hens will be allowed to socialise/dust bathe and have more stimulation and therefore exhibit more natural behaviours. My best friend works at an organic free range farm and there is a lot of cruelty with the chickens especially during transport such as toes commonly being chops off by the plastic crates and mass suffocation during transport occurs a few times a year needlessly. There are too many unavoidable deaths, however the majority of their lives are being shuffled around the barns and free range area and their quality of life is leaps and bounds above those in cages and barns who, especially the ones that live in cages, suffer their entire lives instead of hours of their lives.
I’m a small farmer so I can answer your question at 8:02ish: Free range eggs are healthier for you and much more ethical IF they’re truly laid by pastured poultry, or better yet from a local farmer who literally lets their chickens free range (like myself). A way to tell is if the yolks are really bright gold or orange color that’s a good thing. It means a lot of their diet is coming from natural sources outside that they’re seeking out themselves (by free ranging). If the yolks are pale yellow then they’re probably just kept on a crowded dry lot or “cage free”. Which is still better then the huge factory farms with the poor featherless chickens in tiny cages who never see the light of day. But true free range is the best both ethically and for health and taste!
i love how not only is he WAY more knowledgeable about the science of bodybuilding and is willing to share what he knows, but that he's wanting to constantly learn more and know more. I love how humble and relaxed he is and I'm glad I've subscribed
I've been following fitness content creators for many years, and just recently discovered you. I gotta say I really love your scientific, intelligent approach because I tend to be nerdy and over-analytical. You might be my new favorite :)
“Free range” doesn’t mean anything. Free range means the chicken has access to like a square meter of outdoor space. What you’re looking for is “pasture raised” where the chickens are free to run around outside graze and eat bugs
I gotta say this was one of the realist fitness videos on nutrition I have ever seen. Who else would actually show they drink diet soda and consume some things others would put shame on? Even the fact he says he will eat an egg yoke along with egg whites shows me his authenticity.
Sterling Howell Fruit and vegetables fall into five different colour categories: red, purple/blue, orange, green and white/brown. Each colour carries its own set of unique disease fighting chemicals called phytochemicals. It is these phytochemicals that give fruits and vegetables their vibrant colour and of course some of their healthy properties.
There's scientific evidence that finds eating a very diverse diet creates a very diverse culture of bacteria in your gut. Sounds like a small thing, but it isn't: the more diversity in your gut, the more resilient you are against diseases which translates into performance gains. So yeah, get lots of colours.
This advice about varying colors of fruits and vegetables is actually in the book of the national strength and conditioning association, in the chapter about basic nutrition. To quote the book: "a variety of food should be consumed within each groups [fruits, grain, vegetables, protein rich food and dairy]. For example, eating an orange, an apple and a pear provides a broader array of essential nutrients than is provided by three apples. A diet providing a variety of foods from each group is more likely to meet a person's macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein and fat) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). " I saw this book in some of Jeff's videos on his desk. I'm currently reading it and it's a great read for basic principles on training and nutrition. And the bibliography is solid so yeah science!
I rejoiced when you admitted you don't track carbs and fat too rigorously. I used to work out and track all macros as close as possible to exact. I was 5'5" and around 13-15% bf at 135 with about a year of experience. I stopped working out and tracking macros for years, and now I'm 215 and about 35% bf. I intended just to work out, but then i started tracking total calories, and have been tracking calories and minimum protein for about two weeks. Your video saying not to look at foods black and white as good or bad has made my eating much easier to maintain (and helped my wallet). I also noted what one of your guests said though that for the thermal effect of food, it is best to focus on single ingredient foods that arent super palatable. I don't like vegetables or really fruit, but i find that a smoothie with one serving fruit, 2 cups spinach, kale , or chards, and 1-2 scoops of protein powder is very easy depending on the fruit. I don't have money for your hypertrophy essentials program right now but every day i try to learn as much from your videos as i can, and will buy it when i can afford to. do you have a video on whether there is a significant difference in gains and lean mass retention based on the protein sources? for example 100% whey isolate vs a blend with whey, casein, and egg protein. is hydrolized whey not worth the extra cash? and is whey concentrate really inferior if your macros can afford the extra fat and carbs and there's not significantly more added sugar. also do you have a video on sugar alternatives and how they do or don't affect your health or metabolism in moderation? or is there a mass research study relevant? edit: gonna watch steph's video on sweeteners
7:50 it is a marketing ploy. The only thing that makes a true difference is if you get pasture raised eggs. They can be a bit expensive, but the price has been coming down since they are getting more and more popular
"free range" only means the chickens are outside part of the day - technically (and realistically,) they can still be confined to cramped cages; but as long as those cages are outside at some point, they become "free range." What you want for ethical (and vitamin) benefits are "pasture raised chickens." That is the true ethical definition....
@@margaretjans2860 Apples and oranges. Although you have a good point with the packaging, it has little to do with ethics in relation to the animals and their products.
@@elchapo9537 A few things. Masks don't protect you. There are no double blind studies that prove they do anything. If you want to prove me wrong, I'd be happy to read any studies you find. If I'm not sick, which I'm not, no one else is getting sick. Why is the old guy at the store if he's the most at risk? Did you wear a mask every time flu season came around? Because the flu would potentially kill the old guy too. I'm betting you did not.
this is like my favorite video topic ever! I love it when you do full days of eating and grocery hauls. Especially when you are cutting, it helps me to see the types of foods. More full days of eating please!
That’s called a diet that doesn’t work. If you can’t have food you enjoy in your diet, it isn’t sustainable and won’t work for long. Dieting isn’t about eating food to be miserable, it’s all about moderation. The mental aspect of dieting is always forgotten. If you aren’t happy and are just miserable, you won’t be able to last on your weight loss program very long and therefore stop the results.
The Chicken and broccoli diet is usually for people getting other nutrients through vitamins or "other means" it's not healthy for anyone to ever just eat chicken and broccoli nomatter how many common misconceptions you see about that diet and bodybuilding. Anytime I ever ate just chicken and broccoli.....oh wait I never have lol imo that could eventually make you sick.
You mentioned thinking about your environmental impact with your food choices, and that’s awesome! You could also think about that with the packaged foods you buy. Buying in bulk cuts down more than you might think when it comes to packaging. Once plastic is created it can never be broken back down so cutting your impact here is just as life changing as making smart food choices. Love your content.
Except, as One whom LOVES the bulk section, myself - as well as One whom has had SEVERE Hep A, which, enlarged my liver and I now have mass cell activation syndrome and can only eat carnivore/animal products, without an allergic reaction - it’s INCREDIBLY unsanitary. I definitely wouldn’t recommend using the bulk section consistently, for such a reason. Again, as much as I enjoy bulk sections.
@XOChristianaNicole Sorry to hear you have extra difficulty health wise! Of course you have to do what's best for you. So this is not directed at you. For a general population with a decent immune system, eating from the bulk section will not pose a problem though. Getting things into one's body that are not super sanitary by our modern standards can even be beneficial to the gut microbione and immune system. Apart from the psychological ick-factor, I wouldn't sweat it.
The juice box was perfect. I almost did a spit take when you said “will I really break out the juice box at the gym... yeah I will”. And nice call back at the end when you did.
That would be the highest standard. 108 sqft per chicken of land to eat bugs/grass (help out the omega3/6 ratio a bit), and get sunlight (for vitamin D).
@@R.ebelBoss I agree that getting in the sun (when UVB is available) is ideal for vitamin D. But doing that requires you have adequate cholesterol. Eating eggs and other high cholesterol foods lowers your livers requirement in making it. I'm sure you are aware that flax only provides ALA, which needs to be converted to EPA/DHA to be usable. This process competes with the conversion of omega6, so for most people an animal source of omega3 (like fatty fish) is better. As for ethical arguments for 'leaving hens alone', I am going to do what is best for my own/ my family's health and that means eating the best quality eggs. My 1-year old son eats egg yolks, wild salmon, and breast milk all high in cholesterol and EPA/DHA. Not going to put him on a diet on flax seed while his brain is developing.
@@R.ebelBoss I agree you don’t need animal cholesterol, but there is a reason breast milk has it. The more you get from diet, the less you stress your liver making it. As for ethical arguments about exploiting animals, I’m not going to feed me or my family in a way I don’t think is optimal since I value humans above other animals.
@@R.ebelBoss I know dietary cholesterol is not absolutely necessary, but we are primarily adapted to digesting animal flesh and assimilating its nutrients. I was vegan for a year while vigorously training for my first MMA fight and seemed to function fine. But after a year of eating tempeh, beans, quinoa, and spinach smoothies I felt drawn to eating eggs and salmon. Just speculating because of the lack of fat in my diet. Doubt my son is going get fat, but time will tell. I’ve always been skinny/athletic, but eating more quality fatty animal foods and less carbs has only made me leaner (while working out less). I just feel very satisfied after meals and don’t have the urge to raid the kitchen for junk.
7:50 🐓 “Free-Range” is important for the bird’s quality of life however the term does not guarantee your mental image of what freerange means. It can mean very little or it can mean an actual large dynamic grazing area.
Hey Jeff would love to see an updated version of a video like this in the new year. Tend to go back to this video the last couple of years for diet ideas and motivation.
Hey Jeff, if you’re looking for eggs with claims specific to humane treatment of hens I would recommend “pasture-raised” eggs as opposed to “free range” or “cage free”
7:38 Yes there’s a food nutritionist/director that has released a movie called “Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken”… it’s about how companies in fact do use those key words like “free-range”, “No Horomones”, “No preservatives”.. etc. to trick buyers to believe the product is better. I personally liked the film it’s pretty informational.
But the fact is even if he is not a doctor that is still a billion times more believable than the bullshit a lot of inta hoes preach and promote just sayin
I really like how you brought ethics into your grocery haul. Most people only talk nutrition but rarely talk about cruelty or environmental impact. Personally, I went fully vegan about 7 months ago which was tough cause eggs and turkey was such a big part of my routine, but with some time and finding good recipes, it became second nature to avoid those foods. I think the real trick here is to not be too too hard on yourself, and try your best to just replace 1 staple meal with one new staple meal that is plant-based, and go from there. For instance, I replaced ground turkey and rice with veggie tofu stir-fry. Very dense in nutrients and protein, but no caged animals involved. Getting into the curry game is also a game-changer, so damn delicious and versatile. Anyway, that's just me. Thanks for bringing it up.
@@jonathanbennett9396 just look at where he goes and shops, ie goodlife, superstore, his accent, just generally being nice lol all of us canadians can pick up on that
"ethicality"-wise, I've been trying my best to avoid buying produce in plastic bags/containers - just to reduce my own plastic waste footprint, since the “free range” “organic” labels have been found to have little meaning from what i learned ...
"organic". To me I just have always said "dude, its a plant. It is all organic". it means nothing. Legally the labeling means something to do with it, but every country and region defines it in a different way. Suffice to say though, the science on it says that organic doesn't mean anything for nutrients of the food, and muddy in terms of environmental impact, with some foods grown in "organic" ways being potentially more environmentally damaging. So since it is impossible to know and matters little, just buy the normal stuff. I only ever buy the organic version if it looks like a better batch of veggies and I can justify spending the extra money for it. Pro tip, either go full hardcore vegan if you want to be ethical, or just do whatever is best for your personal health needs, and remember the same eating protocol is not the best for each person. Anything in between imo, is just a waste of your mental capacity.
came here to say the same thing. The irony of being concerned about free range eggs but then loading a cart full of plastic. Hopefully we see him do a similar farmers market video when it's the growing season in canada.
This is true in the US, but most other Western countries have labels that actually mean something. For example, here in The Netherlands we have "Better Life" labels. You either get 0, 1, 2 or 3 stars and the 3 star ones are actually really good. It's great knowing if you buy a certain product that the animals had a normal life, like they're supposed to.
I'd love to see you do a video on the benefits/drawbacks of using a sauna before or after a workout for recovery and muscle soreness. Your science based approach would be perfect for it.
I really enjoy and appreciate your content, man. That said it is amusing as hell to listen to someone comment so much on their concerns over their ecological impact regarding meat, eggs, etc.; then watch them purchase multiple single-serve food products necessitating substantially more packaging and plastic for personal convenience. Still really dig your content and humanity. Absolutely no hate intended, I'm just as prone to it in various forms. Cheers
Jeff mentioned he was concerned about the ethics involved in the making of his food. Are the animals being treated humanely, etc. It doesn't have anything to do with environmental friendliness. That being said, I completely agree that environmental impact should weigh just as heavy on the consumer's mind.
It's so interesting to see how the different weight loss/body builder TH-camrs are so different. Most would never buy Eggo, juice, popcorn, rice, etc. I love that you can still lose weight on those.
Hey Jeff! With regards to your question about the free range eggs, that usually just means that there is no cage involved. They’ll usually try and fit as many chickens as possible in a small area; the conditions are still pretty dismal, with the animals essentially living in their own feces and the carcasses of other dead chickens. It’s really awesome that you’re trying to learn more about the ethical side of animal agriculture. Keep up the good work, I love your fitness content!
Technically, 'Free Range' is an unregulated term, so it can be a little hard to know what you're getting (The Checkout has a good segment on this on their TH-cam if you're interested). Also, Free Range doesn't prohibit the practice of beak trimming. That being said, I think it's great that you're making an effort to make more ethical choices 😊
You are a great content creator and i am going to the grocery store tomorrow to pick up your healthier meal options! Cant copy only your workouts and expect gains! Keep up the great work!
Free range chickens are treated better than chickens stuffed into cramped bins, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are given access to open pastures, or even the outside. If you're looking for eggs that come from much more humanely treated chickens, you can look for pasture-raised or mobile pasture-raised eggs.
I've been eating alot of thin cut steak and grilled chicken breast as my main staples recently. I'll just cut off the fat caps on the steak and grill that up. I'll also make around 5 or 6 cups (dry) of rice a week that i'll just keep in the fridge and ready to go. I've been putting down alot of apples and mangos recently. I love the summer months because mangos are in season and theyre amazing! I'm not sure how nutritiously dense they are but they are definitely my favorite fruit so i dont care too much.
Free Range Eggs means that they have "access" to the outside. They are kept in sheds, with a door, and possibly windows. But they are still cramped together. The carton should say Organic, Pasture Raised. One trend that is happening in Australia, is stating hens/acre on the carton. Or a better option would be to get them from a local farm, where you know they're pasture raised. Also, for ethical reasons... Beef is better than chicken or turkey. An individual cow will provide more calories/nutrition than any other animal, which means less die. 1.5-2 cows provide enough food for an adult for an entire year. If you were mainly choosing poultry, over a hundred individual animals would need to be killed. Obviously pasture raised 100% grass fed/finished is best. You could get a half cow delivered to you in cryo-vac bags, and it would last 6 months in the freezer.
Ares Onasis Looking at anything in isolation isn’t a true view of what actually happens. Less animals being slaughtered doesn’t correlate to a better system. Those two cows require more water and resources than those 100 chickens, and take longer to grow to slaughter weight as well. There’s a reason chicken costs less per pound. I raise my cattle with my chickens. The cows keep the grass that would otherwise go to waste trimmed down. The chickens follow behind the cows, cleaning up any insects they disturb, eat the fly larvae that are in the manure, and scratch the manure into the soil. The two animals complement each other’s foraging patterns well.
All mechanisms, all the time, lol. Mechanisms involving aldehydes and keytones, carbox. Acids, anhydrides, esters, amides, nitriles. And more! 😂 It's gonna be hell. Good luck with your exam!
I tend to tune out fitness advice from TH-camrs because a lot of them are toxic or full of shxt...but this is so realistic & genuine. There's no sense of arrogance or superiority even though you're super successful & I can say the same for Stephanie. It's just so refreshing & inspiring. Yalls vibe is literally immaculate.
Jeff, free range is generally a marketting ploy. But it depends entirely on the supplier. The vast majority of 'free range eggs' are just hens that have been given more space. However they're ususally crammed into a large barn. Which results in the hens growing deformaties and in most cases, dying. Either source your eggs from a farmer you trust and know the hens are being looked after. Or find a supermarket chain that has legitimate free range stances. The Co-op in the UK is good for legit free range products. but many of the other supermarkets are doing it purely as a ploy to make people feel good about their choice, where in reality, it's not better. *Source: I have rescued many battery hens when particular farms were closing down and have seen the condition they're in and where they supposedly live. It takes months for the hen to recover. But they will never recover completely.
Good info Jeff! Free range is just a marketing ploy. All labels on eggs and meat are to make the consumer feel better. For example- cage free means literally “no cage” so the chickens are instead crammed into a shed and trample over each other. Free range I think means they are allowed a tiny little concrete platform outside. I think it needs to be 2 feet deep. Which is arguably worse because the chickens will fight to get out there. 10s of thousands of chicken offered 2’ of outdoor space. Inevitably it’s going to mess with things like their pecking order. I’ve been lifting on a strict vegan diet and it has been very effective for me. I love that you are considering the ethics of your food choices. Good to see you are considering the animals who are in these terrible situations. ❤️
I always feel bad throwing out my yolks, but I don’t know what to do with them! I can’t fit them into my diet, but i can’t stand the cartons of “egg whites”
@@cannonbrunsvik7370 a lot of desserts use the yolks, like custard and ice cream. If you are feeling a little fancy, that might work, you can also put together some sauces
cannon brunsvik the only thing I can think of is have a more active lifestyle to allow yourself to consume more calories! Or try and eat meat lower in fat like extra lean ground beef bison chicken breast etc to give yourself to fit the yolks into your macros
Not to mention that half the protein in an egg is in the yolk. ****AND MORE IMPORTANTLY**** eating the egg yolk significantly increased the bio availability of the protein that's in the white. In other words, if you're only eating the white you might as well not even bother eating eggs.
Just to answer the question about whether "free range" is just a scam or if it actually is ethically better: the law on what is considered "free range" is super generic and there are so many loop holes that egg/chicken companies take. Most of the time when you see something "Free range" it really just means that in the really large chicken coop there is one tiny door that is open for only a few hours a day. The coops are still massively over packed and the majority of the chickens don't even make it outside during the few hours that the door is actually open. Many of the chickens still die due to many health issues, some chickens are also unable to walk because their legs are so weak and/or broken ): The better alternative is to buy "pasture raised" instead (: I'm so happy more and more people are starting to make these choices!
Ik this is old but just wanted to mention, being around farms I know for a fact free range is often worse than caged chickens as free range they just stack on top of each other and have no room

8:15 supposedly free range is what you should go for for chicken happiness… as for how good it is for the planet that’s another question… cause like more land for trees that has to be cut down… higher costs for facilities… as a poor college kid I just buy the two dollars a carton from target and get like 3 at a time and be back in like 3-4 days for more
Hey jeff, about the free range eggs, "free range" doesn't mean that they're out in this big open pasture all year. I think its 180 days a year they get to roam around in a bigger space than normal factory farm pens, so it's better for them but still not the best case scenario
keegy0123 in a BETTER world they would do that but realistically free range chickens are still in the same area but they add a small fence on the shed door for a few hours a day lol it only goes out like an extra 3-4 feet lol so ethically no
Also in the formative years of their life, they spend all of their time in the shed and by the time they're granted that bit of access to roam around they're habituated to being in doors so they don't normally bother even going out.
Dietetics student here: in my experience and reading I have also found that "free range" is just a marketing ploy and the chickens still have very little room in most cases. Don't even get me started on Organic..

Although I'd argue there are ethical issues with all animal products, to call an egg free range in America the farmer only has to let the chickens have access to the outside for any period time at all during the day (could be just one hour). I would suggest finding a local farm where you know the chickens are kept in a good environment. (Or just cutting out animal products all together ;))

Eggs in order of freedom of land available to chickens:
-conventional (never go outside and virtually no space)
-cage free (a little more space, still don’t go outside)
-free range (have outdoor “access” but may still never go outside; check your brand)
-pasture raised (best for you and chicken, typically have at least 108 sq ft. per chicken of real open grass and sunshine)
Pasture raised quality compared to conventional or even cage free is like night and day!! Compare side by side for yourself and you’ll never go back to conventional... worth the extra few bucks per carton for health and ethical reasons imo
Nick Moccia yeah free range is a minimum for me and I look down upon anyone who disagrees
Great explanation. I always get pasture raised for these reasons. My little cousin just got chickens and was super excited at Christmas that she was selling pasture raised eggs not free range!
IMHO raising chickens is super easy if you have the option if you really want to be ethical.

Most places will have some kind of farmer's market. Always a good idea to shop around and ask questions there.
The only guilt free eggs are the ones you get from your own rescue chickens
@@SuperSanity1 or get cage free eggs
@@dreamybull1509 Which I'm willing to bet you can find at a farmer's market.

Jeff: is a science based body builder
Jeff: get lots of colors
Sterling Howell
Fruit and vegetables fall into five different colour categories: red, purple/blue, orange, green and white/brown. Each colour carries its own set of unique disease fighting chemicals called phytochemicals. It is these phytochemicals that give fruits and vegetables their vibrant colour and of course some of their healthy properties.
its funny though bc it’s actually science based advice
There's scientific evidence that finds eating a very diverse diet creates a very diverse culture of bacteria in your gut. Sounds like a small thing, but it isn't: the more diversity in your gut, the more resilient you are against diseases which translates into performance gains. So yeah, get lots of colours.
This advice about varying colors of fruits and vegetables is actually in the book of the national strength and conditioning association, in the chapter about basic nutrition. To quote the book:
"a variety of food should be consumed within each groups [fruits, grain, vegetables, protein rich food and dairy]. For example, eating an orange, an apple and a pear provides a broader array of essential nutrients than is provided by three apples. A diet providing a variety of foods from each group is more likely to meet a person's macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein and fat) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). "
I saw this book in some of Jeff's videos on his desk. I'm currently reading it and it's a great read for basic principles on training and nutrition. And the bibliography is solid so yeah science!

Love how relaxed you are with your grocery shopping, a little bit o this, a little bit o that.... Your calves are to DIE for.

That would be the highest standard. 108 sqft per chicken of land to eat bugs/grass (help out the omega3/6 ratio a bit), and get sunlight (for vitamin D).
joshruehlig Precisely. That’s what you want in a healthy diet.
Doubt my son is going get fat, but time will tell. I’ve always been skinny/athletic, but eating more quality fatty animal foods and less carbs has only made me leaner (while working out less). I just feel very satisfied after meals and don’t have the urge to raid the kitchen for junk.

"ethicality"-wise, I've been trying my best to avoid buying produce in plastic bags/containers - just to reduce my own plastic waste footprint, since the “free range” “organic” labels have been found to have little meaning from what i learned ...
right?!?

Something about how calm
He is and how ripped he is really makes me appreciate his advice
The feeling you get in your tummy tum when you get the notey that Jeffy uploaded 🙌🏽

Looking at anything in isolation isn’t a true view of what actually happens.
@@blakew5672 None of that has to do with ethics.
Ares Onasis
I’d argue the same about slaughtering animals purpose bred for food production
What I should be doing: studying for an Organic Chemistry exam
What I am doing: watching Jeff Nippard videos 😂😂
I be doing that too. What is your exam covering?
All mechanisms, all the time, lol. Mechanisms involving aldehydes and keytones, carbox. Acids, anhydrides, esters, amides, nitriles. And more! 😂
It's gonna be hell. Good luck with your exam!
@@sarajerde8280Thanks, and Good Luck on your exams!😁
OMG me tooooo! and for hours I've been watching his videos. Like its finals week!!! What Am I doing!!! LOL

These videos are amazing. They really help during the everyday journey! Regards from Argentina Jeff, you are the best!!!
I stick to lean meats for my protein, fruits for my carbs, and LOOOOOTS of coffee. Good video man!
Aiming for a heart attack with that diet?
Bellatrix Kate mind telling me what’s wrong with the diet ?
If you want to be more ethical don’t waste the yolk!
Thats so true man! Why even bother buying free range when u go throw away half of the product?
13:26 😂😂he actually took out the juice box
I literally clapped when he talked about reducing meat consumption
"But am I really going to pop a juice box out at the gym...I think so"
*Cut to Jeff sipping on the juice box* 😂
It's marketing, the highest quality and most ethical eggs are pasture raised.
oswaldo bermudez yessir, right from your local farmer, grown and raised by a family ❤️
Ik this is old but just wanted to mention, being around farms I know for a fact free range is often worse than caged chickens as free range they just stack on top of each other and have no room
Came back to comment that, your Ben and Jerry recommendation was best thing I’ve had while cutting 😅

The most humane way to get eggs would be from your local farmers market. They just get pretty Expensive then, but you are supporting a local business as well
@@dragon-b9f the thing about organic at least is there is a concrete legal definition for what constitutes organic vs free range which afaik doesn't have a firm one, much like "natural"
This video makes me feel like I'm goofing around at a store with friends in the middle of the night and I love it! Great film talent!

I do like the fact that you change up the meals. To many people follow these like super strict diet meals, when in reality, it's okay to get the sorta unhealthy foods, as long as you do not over indulge.
