  • My NEAF 2018 Experience // Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend Day 1 of the Northeast Astronomy Forum 2018 at the Rockland Community College. I went with my high school's astronomy club as I am one of the co-presidents. It was an AMAZING day with a variety of lectures, lessons, and a plethora of tables and vendors. There was even a "Solar Scope Party" outside and we all got to look at the sun (and even the moon!). If you are at all interested in space you have to check it out next year! And they will be posting the talks from this year on TH-cam (according to one of the workers anyways). This is not at all sponsored but here is the link to the website if anyone wants to check it out: www.rocklandastronomy.com/neaf... :) Please like and subscribe!

It’s great to see a younger generation interested in Astronomy. Keep up the good work.

NEAF is a lot of fun and you meet some really nice people there. A few years back my kids were volunteers helping the staff while I was busy manning the Astronomics / Cloudy Nights booth. I'm glad you got the chance to go to the Solar party. Scott

The Solar Party was so cool! Once you get over the fact that you’re staring straight at the sun at least XD

Thanks Lauren. I really enjoyed this. It strengthens my dream to live in Arizona and buy a RASA 36 and photograph Deep Sky Objects!

Very cool thanks for sharing. I wish my school had an astronomy club, I would have got into it much sooner!

Having an astronomy club is so much fun! But the cool thing about astronomy is that one can do it with or without a club :)

What books do you have on your shelf in the intro of your video? They looked interesting.

Thanks for the report. Hard to make it to NEAF from out here in Seattle, so nice to get some real-time info. Also nice to see what appears to be a large active youth Astro club. At my high school in 19?? 😉 I think there were 4 or 5 of us, all guys! Keep it up, it’s a great great life-long hobby!

Cool buy one that you like and that you feel comfortable with for you, you can add to it and make it better as you learn, dont go out and buy something for 3 grand when you can get some decent glass for half the price, shop around the best deals are bidding on ebay, but look at the RRP dont over bid , first do as much research into this as you would a college degree, it gets complicated when you start with H-alpha and atmospheric refraction and all the other big jargon words we all use there are no professionals in this hobby, many many argue or debate the relative variable in all reviews but it's an ongoing learning curve with new equipment and accessories coming out every day, on a college slavery salary your not going to get porch, you're going to get one that looks like a porch and does the same thing for 75% less than what you would pay for a name and a badge ,above all else have fun and enjoy your journey across the universe, name a star after yourself, and name your telescope, get a brass plaque engraved for it, in friendship or out of love, and make it yours :) if it makes you smile then you're halfway there, and you won't give up so easily patients is the key :)
