  • Rust seems to have gotten the best of parts of our deck as we begin to cut off our bulkwarks on the starboard side...

    I have a couple decades of machine shop experience and I will 100% back Logan's recommendation of the impact driver. It's the number one go to, especially for things that can't have a torch put to them. Some good penetrating oil (PBBlaster, Kroil) and an impact will save you a ton of trouble and often drilling. The great thing about steel is you can always cut out the bad and weld it back in, the bad thing about steel is, you always end up having to cut out the bad and weld new in. Careful with that tendonitis, can't cut that out and weld a new one in nearly as easily.

      Luckily a couple of days after this I woke up with the tendinitis completely gone and it hasn’t come back since! Def more difficult to deal with than cutting out the steel 😂 thanks for watching!

    That’s a great tip on that impact driver.

    That look on Logan's face when he realized the work that would have to happen around the shower. That was heart wrenching. You know how you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. You got this!

    That unicorn unit is slick! I'll have to track one down! And seeing all the junk that was in there and how you are rebuilding things makes it very clear that your boat will be much tougher in the end! Great video with very nice editing.

    So sorry guys. That's just the worst news! Please don't give up. We love the fact that you are repairing your boat. We will still love it if you have to completely rebuild it too. Not ideal for you but keep your heads up, we are loyal supporters no matter what! Love Max too ...

    Logan "smile of disbelief" around 05:00. And 06:40... OMG. And then "it will all be worth it in the end".
    🙂
    Geee I wish we will never ever have to do 1/2 that much work on our VdS34.

    I'll jump in here at 6:29. Snap On makes an impact driver, got one years ago. What about using some of these release products tried out on Project Farm? You need and Impact gun rather than a drill to put in and remove fasteners. I used to install cabinets and the impact was a lot more effective than a drill. Less incline to 'cam out'.
    Back to the vid.

    I'm thinking you're single ply bulwark with tube top is a good decision seeing all that hidden rust.
    Have you thought about making a fixture to hold a circular saw with a metal blade in it and slide it over the tube to cut it to slide over the bulwark then weld it on.

    • @WaywardLifeSailing
      @WaywardLifeSailing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did think of doing that, but figured it would end up being the same amount of welding to seal it anyway and leave it more susceptible to water intrusion, so we chose to keep it solid instead.

    Hi boat savers can you make the titles of the videos slightly more sarcastic like : yeah more holes to fix in our home cheers
    Love the channel btw

      Haha we can’t cuz of optimizing for the algorithms but I might start putting a “what I wanted to name this video” comment pinned to the video. I like your idea 😂

    I can add to the comments re the impact driver, I've had one for years, unfortunately, as time has gone by so have the bits.

    You should wear shock absorbing gloves when using vibratory tools. i suffer from white finger disease due to using jack hammers when i was younger, it is unbearable in the winter.

    • @WaywardLifeSailing
      @WaywardLifeSailing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you know where we could get shock absorbing gloves? That sounds horrible! Also darn TH-cam glitches!

    • @spinaway
      @spinaway 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WaywardLifeSailing You should be able to get the shock absorbing gloves from any builders supplies store. they will come under personal protective clothing.

    Stop talking. Just work and put it on faster speed. Your style is a poor way to add subscribers. Look at the other highly successful sites and learn from them. I really want to follow you but…less talk and more action. Thanks

    • @SailingSeaDreamofClyde
      @SailingSeaDreamofClyde 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What are you talking about man?! The narration puts context into what they are doing... And your "advice" to learn from the other "highly successful sites" is confused. All the big channels seem to do is talk, with little or no "action." Ps, you can mute and speed up videos on TH-cam if you want to see zippy silent videos! Click on the little "gear" symbol to speed things up.

      Nobody forces you to follow anyone. A lot of us subscribers really appreciate these guys explaining what they actually do. It's much more valuable than just seeing time-lapse after time-lapse.
