Fantastic EFI building harnesses, when I worked at the largest wiring manufacturers in the world we had a quality process where crip termination tools were calibrated, three tests "pull test" (pulling terminals from the wire) we tested two at the beginning of a run of crimped terminations two in the middle and two at the end, this ensures a quality crimp through out, hope this may help in the future of manufacturing these EFI harnesses, quality is better than quantity :-)
Have you got anything on extending a wiring harness ? I need to extend mine but don’t like idea of soldering in the engine bay and unsure how to join the wires the right way when extending
Nice video HPA. I need information that I cannot easily find on your forum, so let me ask here. How can I find a supplier for crimp terminals that would be equal in quality to the Toyota pins found in the connectors of my 1994 Celica. I want to DIM (Do It Myself) when repairing or adding wiring in my restoration project. Toyota wants me to buy pre-crimped/with wire solutions and I despise the thought of using butt connectors in my wiring harness, and HATE the thought of spending money that fast.
I don't know the exact pins and connectors used, but this article will run through some options that will be more than up to this task and not break the bank: www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/crimping-on-a-budget-tools-and-materials/ - Taz.
Shielded cable. It is used for critical inputs, like knock or engine speed and position sensors. The shielded braid is grounded on only one side (the ECU), and it can be a bit tricky to work with when it comes to getting it through bulkhead connectors etc, but nothing impossible 😎 - Taz. www.hpacademy.com/blog/shielded-cable-101-motorsport-wiring-lesson-5-of-5/?
There are a bunch of wiring suppliers listed on the HPA forum. The best on for you just depends on your location, timeframe and also what other materials you might need. Check out this section here to get started: www.hpacademy.com/forum/efi-wiring-fundamentals/ - Taz.
Fuck scoring with a knife, just use a set of wire strippers to pop the outer jacket off the twisted pair. So much easier, faster and less likely to accidently damage the inner cores.
As this one wire took over seven minutes from cutting to crimping just how much time would a harness with 30 wires take? 210 minutes or 3 1/2 hours. No wonder I stopped messing with these things decades ago.
Quicker when you're not making a video on it, however, with wiring you get out what you put in. If you want to take shortcuts to throw things together and save time then you're going to be doing things more than once (costing more money and time in the long run), or better yet you should just get a trusted professional to do a proper job for you. Wiring isn't for everyone and that's OK - Taz.

Came here to say the same thing. However, since the folded over wire fits into the terminal, that may suggest that he is using the wrong gauge wire for the terminals. That terminal looks more appropriate for 14 gauge wire.

So, you paint your copper wires silver to look like aluminum? Why were the initial close-up shots showing copper wire that was copper colored? Sorry, copper coloured.
Not painted no, just different types of wire. Some come plated with different metals. Your application and sometimes, sadly, budget will dictate what type you use and where - Taz.

This was incredibly satisfying to watch
nice , clear and concise with great narration.

mv. drop test a must for calibration of crimping tool in aviation industry.
this video is so underated. im going to be soon building a loom for a 2.5mzr engine in a mk6 fiesta ST150 which is also known as fiesta Xr4
Nice one @DobsonatorX! I hope you enjoy the build. If you're going to post videos of the build let us know, keen to follow =) - Taz.

@@danisyx5804 whats funny? I've built the car now and its fully forged n/a with individual throttles retaining the vvt.
You guys are the best.

Any recommendations on where to source this type of shielded twisted pair wire from.

My favourite part was the bit when he crimped the wire with the crimper
I liked when he stuck the tip in ...just for a min mind you
I liked the bit he pulled the strain relief rubber
As a aircraft license mechanic you are not to fold the wire over like you have done.

Where can I get bulkhead connectors like that in the thumbnail?
