Sure.. that part is basically a series expansion. But in layman's terms
We vary the parameter t by a small amount Δt, then this can be understood by the fact that the function will also increase a little bit, which can be written as
It's previous value + (Δt) (the change of f for unit t)+ .. other terms.
So the basic trick is to think the δf(x,t)/δ(t) as how much f(x,t) changes for a unit change of t . So for δt you just multiply with it.
