    7:57 There's one sure thing with RCBS, they really stand behind their products and their words. When they say lifetime guarantee, it really is. I've been using a Rock Chucker for probably 20 years now, and I wanted to finally use the priming system. After less than 50 rounds the base for the handle did break. It's really the first time I'm seeing this, but it did happen. I contacted them, and very quickly they send me a replacement part, free of charge, without even asking me to find my receipt (thank god, because I never thought about that 20 years ago). I will definitely buy a RCBS product again in future when I will need to buy more reloading tools. I was even surprise to see a top notch support service like that (even thought I'm living outside of the US). I just wanted to share this story with you ;)

    RCBS is beyond great. I have equipment I bough in the 70's. I needed a few small parts, all it took was a phone call. Not only did they give me the parts I needed, they sent extras. I'm good for another 80 years ! lol

    I have a 4x4 auto progressive press. Ive had it since new 1990. It works. on small primers you have to pay attention. This new 7 I think it will be ok. However it doesn't like Oil on the primer slider. i have a touch of silicon grease for now but well see.

    I bought the Pro Chucker 7 when it first came out. Before I even had the press running I snapped both of the primer sliders and the automatic indexing cam. I am glad to see that RCBS has addressed one of the issues I had with this machine, however I think the primer slider should have been made with steel instead, and this issue should have been fixed earlier. I returned that machine from where I bought it and traded it for a Dillon 650. The Dillon has loaded over 10,000 rounds of .45 acp without a single failure and it is still going strong. My trust with RCBS has been discomposed.

    Gavin , Awesome videos. I was wondering could you take the plastic primer transfer bars and the plastic slides and replace them with brass or maybe make a system that has a roller on the transfer bar that rides along the slider bar, less friction. I just figured since you have the presses there to use as templates and you have a machine shop you could make a fix for this ?

    I have the chucker 7 but it came with 2 small primer plug assembly's instead of a large and small. I've looked on dozens of Web sites but can't find these style plug assembly's. Do you know of a website I could visit as I live in England and trying to find stuff here is a bit difficult.

    So has the issue actually been fixed heard mixed reviews that it has and that it hasnt I'm on the fence on getting one

    Nice vid Gavin. RCBS has always been there, albeit it can take forever to receive parts. Been using their equipment for 30 years. This issue with the priming system [which is similar to Piggyback Press system] is that it relies on gravity. Unfortunately, when what you want to transfer only weighs 3 grains-- you're going to have issues. This fix will not eliminate the issue. Having used the drop-tube primer system for 25+ years, I easily accepted the primer-strips of the Pro2000. The Rockchucker5 & 7 seem to be answers for which there was no issue.

    Can you do a review about the RCBS case feeder?

    Any progressive press's you know of besides the DILLON that you can primer swage with ?

      I'm not aware of anything on-press that works in conjunction with a loading sequence (like the Dillon Super 1050 does).

    UR...Really enjoy your videos...They are the best produced videos on YT...Just a thought about the quantity of powder you have in your shop...From experience insurance companies will void your insurance if you have over 20 pounds of powder that isn't in a storage container..A limit of 10,000 primers...International Fire Code includes residential buildings and is used by the insurance industry...The codes are on line for anyone to see...Under fireworks and explosives section

    good video, good info. too bad the camming rail doesn't have a way to break free when a primer gets bound up saving the primer slide. ;)

    Gavin, I need advice. I'm buying another press but I'm torn between the Dillon 550, Hornady lnl ap or the new RCBS Pro Chucker 5. My round count doesn't justify a casefeeder at this time. Which would you recommend?

    • @livincincy4498
      @livincincy4498 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look at the number of Calibers you want to reload and look at the cost of each calibers press components.
      Also look at if you seek a case feeder or not. The case feeders can be expensive.
      The Dillon 550 is going to be slower as you manually index, set the case and set the bullet. The other two index themselves and have 5 dies. This means you could feed bullets thru a die. So you may need to compare to a Dillon 650. Figure a 550 will make 450 per hour. The Hornady and RCBS will make 600-700 per hour. A case feeding 650 will make in excess of 800.
      Finally look at your volume needed. If you are going to run thousands of rounds before a caliber change then a progressive press will work for you. If you are going to run batches of hundreds in many calibers then a turret press might serve you.
      The Lee Classic Cast press will produce 250 rounds per hour. It is simple so you have next to zero downtime keeping it running making match grade ammunition. It will also work as a single stage press along side a progressive. You can use it for case prep of rifle rounds and depriming. This keeps primer gunk away from your progressive press where it tends to cause maintenance & cleaning.
      Another great turret is the Redding. Excellent for rifle round production.

    Need an update on this press.
    Question: Have you run into any problems with that thin indexing arm?
    Question: Have you broken anymore primer transfer bars?
    Question: This is more a request. Could you ask your contact at RCBS, the reason why they won’t sell PC 7 Die plates minus the powder measure?
    Thank you.

      You're not going to get an answer from this guy. If he points out problems and bad designs, no more free stuff from the companies to review.

      @@montekernell8779 your correct. Man gonna do what he has to for a paycheck. I would like to know how many updated primer bars he has broken and how many index arm that broke. Probably not too many because he most likely uses a different press (Dillon) for his personal everyday ammo machine.

  • @mastalee1776

    hornady ammo plant vs Dillion xl650. on some forums people say stick with the Dillion cause it's better and have more support if something goes wrong and better in the king term. do you have any preferences between the 2?

    • @mastalee1776
      @mastalee1776 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      does the Dillion come with a bullet feeder and other bells and whistles compared to other progress loaders ?

    • @GeneralG1810
      @GeneralG1810 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got a Hornady and had a pawl break on 2 occasions Hornady replaced them no questions asked, it's a decent press other than the pawl issue, especially the quick change design

    • @mastalee1776
      @mastalee1776 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      GeneralG1810 what is the pawl?

    • @GeneralG1810
      @GeneralG1810 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mastalee The device that turns the shell plate, on the Hornady they're located at the bottom of the press, on this press it's the 90 degree thing that comes up through the shell plate to turn it

  • @GeneralG1810
    @GeneralG1810 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really pissed off with my Pro Chucker 5 having SERIOUS indexing issues, ended up removing pawl and indexing by hand

    • @Ultimatereloader
      @Ultimatereloader  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yuck! Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. Can you elaborate as to what's happening for you? Mine have worked well except one time when I bent the indexing lever and had to replace it, and had to bend the replacement part to "time" the indexing. I'll try and help out if I can.

    • @GeneralG1810
      @GeneralG1810 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      gavintoobe That thing is called the pawl and it is the whole problem, sometimes it doesn't even line up with the slot to start, and other times it doesn't turn the shell plate enough to index it. Should have gone with Dillon >8(

    • @Ultimatereloader
      @Ultimatereloader  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would check your alignment. It's a pretty precise thing- mine has been 100% since adjusting mine. On the Dillon thing- they make great gear, but every press has its "issues" :)

    • @GeneralG1810
      @GeneralG1810 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      gavintoobe I got this one because my Hornady LNL has broken the pawl on 2 occasions thinking this design would be better. So far less than impressed, went back to my Hornady.
      Even when it's aligned it wont turn the shellplate enough for it to index correctly

      They will send 1 or 2 for free. Wich is really nice. However
      I would like to be able to purchase 10 along with the index arm. So I don't have downtime while waiting on parts..

  • @scottperson9487
    @scottperson9487 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds to me like RCBS still has work to do on this issue. Listed 5 things to watch for that other manufactures do not have issue with on their press designs.

  • @scbane
    @scbane 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Back when this press came out, $250+ for a toolhead with that worthless Uniflow PM on it, for every caliber, no thank you. RCBS priced me right into a Dillon 650. I use a Hornady LNL single for hunting loads, but almost all of my other loading is done on the 650.
    While there are quirks with any press, RCBS priced this one out of their market.

  • @improvingshooter5423

    I wish RCBS would address the stupid indexing cam!!! Making that out of pot metal from China was a terrible idea! They would have been better off making it with compressed soda cans!

    Don't like and don't trust the priming system on my RC pro5. Doesn't have a great feel and especially if were talking rifle. I pre prime everything and run the rest on it. Great system, just not for priming in my opinion

      @@BigDmike24 Not that big of a deal to manual prime. Just one less thing to worry about on a 5 station press. Also, Power loss from no primer has gone down to zero basically. I just couldn't get a good feel with the integrated system. Be safe and happy new years.
