@@tailsthefox6568 do Jamaicans realize that I have to get on the internet to talk about track because track & field RARELY makes it on the likes of an ESPN??? The Penn Relays isn’t nationally televised here anymore. As good as we are, track isn’t even a top 10 sport in America. Noah Lyles, Allyson Felix, Sha’Carri Richardson, etc. aren’t household names by any stretch of the imagination. Sydney McLaughlin broke the 400H WR a couple of times last year & went to college in my state, I can’t just say her name amongst average people. I have to explain who she is. Carl Lewis is probably the last well known track athlete in America. I love track but as a whole, nobody cares about it here. Our best athletes rarely pick the sport after high school & college. Too much money to be made in football, basketball & other far more popular sports. Track & field will never have multiple 100,000 seat stadiums sold out on any given day. College football does it week in, week out. Once again it’s a country (Jamaica) that specializes in track versus a country where breaking a WR might now make the sports section at all. Yes we’re well funded but it’s a struggle to keep top athletes in the sport when they can make what Bolt made in his lifetime, in less than 5 years.
