    I like the analogy that 2D beings would struggle to understand a 3D world in the same way that we 3D beings struggle to understand a 4D world.
    Then imagine a 2D world where (ants) crawl across a sheet of 2D paper.
    Then a raindrop falls and suddenly appears on the 2D sheet of paper. The 2D creatures wonder where the drop of water came from.
    We can understand the 2D creatures grappling with the sudden appearance of the drop of water - where might it have come from?

    • @MM-jf1me
      @MM-jf1me ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting question! I am not qualified to answer your question and hope someone better informed than I can assuage our curiosity!
      My guess: Weight is relative; mass isn't relative; we can only perceive the slices of the 4D objects as they pass their our 3D perspective so I would think the mass must change from our perspective, though of course the mass would remain the same from a 4D onlooker's perspective.
      Let's see how right or wrong my guess turns out to be!

    • @ChristoferKelly
      @ChristoferKelly ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You probably mean _mass_ , and specifically, _gravitational mass_ . The mass of the 4D object would remain constant, as the amount of matter that the 4D object is made of doesn't change simply by moving through our world. However, as it moves through our world, the amount of the 4D object that intersects with our 3D space definitely changes, as demonstrated in this video. So the mass of the 3D portion that exists in our world *will* change-the larger 3D ball will contain more mass than the smaller 3D ball, even though the total mass of the overall 4D object never changes.

      @thenarwhalmage 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChristoferKellyWhile a 4d objects mass would technically not change, that’s because its mass is infinite. Mass is a property of 3d space. Asking how much mass a 4d object has is like asking how much area a 3d object has. You can measure the surface area of a 3d object, but because every of the infinite 2d cross-sections of a 3d object has a finite mass, so the true area is uncountably large. If each of the 3d cross-sections of the 4d object has a countable mass, then the true mass of the whole object is infinite. You would instead need to measure some hyper-mass in order to understand the object.
      The only way 4d objects can have countable true mass is if we already live in a 4d or higher universe, that simply has the other dimensions too small to notice. That would make mass a 4d measure and usable for the object. But any noticeably 4d object would still be massive. It would be as if you were comparing a plank of wood to a sheet of paper.

    • @netherman1325
      @netherman1325 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      You can actually visualize the 4th dimension pretty easily. If you think about it, 1d creatures would only see the 0th dimension, or a dot. 2d creatures would only see the 1st dimension, or a line. 3d creatures see in 2d. Think about it for a second, everything in front of you can be placed on a canvas as a 2d image. We just have perspective and depth perception. So, following the pattern, a 4d creature would see in the 3rd dimension. What this means is they would be able to see the whole of a 3d object, so while when we look at an apple, we can only see a 2d image of one side of it, a 4d creature would be able to see all around the object, every side of it, and possibly even inside of it. Quite cool to think about eh?

      It 🤔 so appears that, since humans can imagine all sides & inside of 3D objects, we are the 4D “creature” but we just somehow “forgot”? This should open a slew of questions… to be kept mainly introspectively 🤐you’ll notice the thief is closer than you thought 😅

    The scary / amazing thing to think about is what if matter actually exists in multiple dimensions already? So something like the pen on your desk could be bigger than your house, or the size of a big water bottle, but we can only perceive its existence in 3D space as a small hand held item and the remaining dimensions are all hidden from us...

      Kind of, but my immediate thought was ghosts. UFOs could really belong to our universe/dimension, whilst ghosts don't have other non-religious explanation.

    I’ve watched many videos, trying to get in cogent explanation of the 4th dimension. This is by far the best explanation for me. Because it directly relates to quantum physics and computing, where a traditional computer reads lines of codes very quickly quantum computing can look at all of the lines of code simultaneously, and grab the information it needs out. I like how she explained we can no longer see the ball, but that does not mean the ball does not exist. Hence it is out of our perspective. But someone who could see everything all at once, essentially omniscient does.
