I plan to read a LOT of books, watch a lot of movies, spend a lot of time in nature, learn some new skills, and tune out as much of the negativity as possible. I totally agree with all of your tips!
Your suggestion to look to artists for inspiration and support is probably one of the best suggestions I have ever heard on any platform! Turning to beauty and peace in this time of turmoil is more than emotionally satisfying!
I'm recalling the huge crowds at the Kamala rallies...remembering those stadiums full of cheering joyful people who are OUR people. We WILL find that again. BELIEVE. Art is a good focus. Radical Self care. All good thoughts...thanks.
💙 Thank You, Jessica.☺️ You are a Powerhouse and an Inspiration!!! Mr. Rogers said his mother taught him to "Look for the Helpers" in tough times. And it works. I know that there are many good, decent people in our country doing the right things, for the right reasons, at the right time. It's going to be a bumpy ride, but I believe Trump and his Circus 🎪 of Clowns 🤡 and sycophants will contribute a great deal to their own undoing. And those who were duped, who will feel the pain of his policies as we will, they will wake up, and the pendulum will swing the other way. We must stay alive and engaged, and celebrate every victory and encouraging sign, no matter how small. We must keep that pendulum swinging in a positive direction, towards Democracy, and equality and justice for all. 💙💪🇺🇸
My art and photography have always kept me sane. You don't need to be a master at it. Just connect with nature and it will be your anchor in the storm.
Thank you This is the best Christmas 🌲🎄 message I've heard this season! You're right! My connection to my Church is very important! Thank you for being a positive voice. So many are talking about how awful things are going to get. Those of us who stood for democracy already friggin know how awful it's gonna get. I had to stop watching most of those and say "Do Not Recommend This Channel". I got tired of hearing them all say Trump was getting DEVASTATING news, only to find out that Trump got no truly bad consequences from the repeated DEVASTATING and HUMILIATING news. I find most of them to be like Lucy with the football while I'm feeling like Charlie Brown.

Without people like you Jessica with your intelligence and your faith in ppl - democracy would never have arisen in the world. I know the difference between right and wrong. I’m not going anywhere
I think the tendency to go to the worst-case scenario of "democracy is dead" relates to the understandable human aversion to uncertainty. So much is unknown right now, that some people will assume the worst to avoid the awful waiting, which is so hard on our nervous systems.
Thank you Jessica! Yes -- stay alive. Be creative. Focus on our communities and reaching across political divides to make small stuff happen. Remind everyone that we are not enemies. We are searching humans.
For me, I have to slow down with social media. I already stopped with Facebook for now, right after the election, I uninstalled it from my phone. I just can't deal with too much input in general at the moment, especially too much superficial stuff from people who don't seem affected at all by everything going on, or maybe even support Trump and MAGA. Even TH-cam is getting a bit much at the moment for me, and I want to slow down with that even more as well, for my mental health. The first registered slave owner in what would become the United States was Anthony Johnson, a black man in colonial Virginia. Johnson was initially brought to Virginia as an indentured servant. After completing his servitude, Johnson acquired land and established himself as a successful farmer. In the 1650s, he owned at least 250 acres in Virginia's Northampton County, which he farmed with his family. He also became one of the first Black individuals in Virginia to own enslaved people. One of his slaves, John Casor, another African black man became the center of a significant legal case in 1655 when Johnson sued a neighbour for trying to claim Casor as his servant. The Virginia court ruled in Johnson's favour, declaring that Casor was Johnson's property for life. This case is one of the earliest known instances of lifetime servitude in colonial America. Slavery is a terrible thing.

I sometimes get sick and disgusted with this country, but i subscribe to the "You don't love BECAUSE, you love DESPITE." I liken this country to a rebellious child. Sometimes a parent has to resort to drastic punishment, because calm, cool reasoning just ain't gonna cut it. Having said that, if you and your boyfriend leave, I hope you find satisfaction in your new country. Assuming we still have democracy, maybe we can begin to rectify things in 2026 (the midterms) and then really get some stuff done if a Democrat wins in '28 and has a cooperative Congress. Stay strong!
For those of you who might take the advice to look up this song. Save your time. Here is the guy's comment on his own song: "This song was written in 2005, with divine collaboration "Praise to Our Lord " lyrics"......... arrangement along with playing rhythm, bass, & lead guitar/ vocals. The most spiritual 9 month that I recall! Could not get air play in this liberal controlled social society, including Fox!" TROLL.
Seek support with those who voted for common sense. I would suggest also support every group that MAGA and the orange monster are going after. United we will stand. Divided we will fall. My thanks to those who deeply understand and truly support all of us. I smiled as you spoke of the Last of the Mohicans movie, a great favorite of mine!
I just read The Book of Hope by Jane Goodall and Douglas Abrams. Very good, although somewhat dated and sad when Jane Goodall mentions that things are getting better because 61% of young folks voted for Biden. I wonder what the two authors would say now. I will put out this request. I would love if there was a time where this group could come together on Zoom periodically to share emotions and support with no request for action or trying to look for political good but maybe share the art, nature and personal stories that are uplifting us. I had so much hope for a better future that would not only do more for our country, but more for our planet, the bio-diversity, and non-human species. I am trying to work through the anger I feel towards those who voted for Trump because I know that it's counter-productive to my well-being.
"No request for action," is not what we need to survive. Restoring and safeguarding or govt. of, for and by the People requires that We the People show up. Civilized, civic action does not have to take lots of time, or even any $. We can each choose something to work on, and ask our friends and families to do the same. Such action is the best remedy for these difficult emotions and this difficult reality. People Power United, People for the American Way, Indivisible, the ACLU, just a few of the quality groups we can check out/spread the word on/join with.
We missed the lesson at the end of the Cold War, that you cannot choose between "left" (cooperation, socialism) and "right" (competition, capitalism). Humans cooperate and compete all the time, at the same time, but not consciously. Politics (community, civilization) has always been the challenge to balance competition and cooperation, thoughtfully and with purpose. Then we will have common ground and can solve the problems of living together. America practices socialism, but mostly to benefit the wealthy. Now that the rich and poor are so far apart, we can be divided and destroyed from the inside by fascism. Most of us are fighting over the crumbs, unable to afford to raise and educate children. The wealthy are miserable, too, as they never truly feel they have enough.
I plan to read a LOT of books, watch a lot of movies, spend a lot of time in nature, learn some new skills, and tune out as much of the negativity as possible. I totally agree with all of your tips!

Read A Black Women's History. This is nothing compared to what Black people endured during and after slavery.
The first registered slave owner in what would become the United States was Anthony Johnson, a black man in colonial Virginia. Johnson was initially brought to Virginia as an indentured servant. After completing his servitude, Johnson acquired land and established himself as a successful farmer.
You sure do help! Don’t leave us.
My #1 - leave the country
We need to survive the next 4 years
We missed the lesson at the end of the Cold War, that you cannot choose between "left" (cooperation, socialism) and "right" (competition, capitalism).
This comment makes a lot of sense.
