The nails would actually make things even worse for you against an infected and the bat is going to break. The wrench is a far better option. You can use it for A LOT of things. It's metal, the most durable, and heavy enough for you to crack skulls without as much effort or precision as a bat. While also having much more range and utility than a knife. The last scenario for them was not planned right. Getting into a vehicle first was right. But getting supplies and then meeting up with other survivors next is the best choice.
100% agreed, edged weapons are a super bait, they will get stuck, chip, get blunt and if you think you would do good with a sword without training, guess what you really wouldnt, and even if you did know how to handle one you cant just cut off a zombies head off like in the movies, that shit is fiction, so most you could do is slice off pieces of dead meat. The people who know their shit about swords and medieval weapons always say they would rather take a War Hammer (ones with the huge spike at the end.) for obvious durability reasons and versitility and ease of use (yeh if u got more people with you and you have a bunch of hammers now everyone is pretty much deadly vs a zombie regardless of if they know how to use em or not.)
