- Sorry for the delay, but yesterday turned out to be busier than I'd thought. We should expect another delay next week, because I have to go around making some visits. Sorry for that.
This week, we have the teams from Trinity College, Cambridge playing against the Bristol University. Despite all of the expectations, this match fizzled. Original air date 24.7.2017
I think Hosegood will be a standout this series.

@11:15 Does he say all 4 elements are in the Platinum group? Because that’s definitely wrong - Osmium is Group 8, Rhodium and Iridium are Group 9. Only Palladium is in the same group as Platinum which is Group 10.

Bothers me that TIME is a crucial factor in determining the winning team. Last season saw the deserving SOAS team (among others) lose coz of a few less seconds to answer bonuses and now a repeat last Mon when Ulster lost to Edinburgh coz of a few less seconds to answer bonuses.
S4701 had 19 (less 1 unanswered) Starter questions while 02 had 22 (less 2). If exactly the same number of (answered) questions were asked per episode it would seem fairer overall rather than the current format where Paxo can vary the speed (he sometimes does and does not) towards the end.
Saw an article where the BBC UC crew admitted that the episodes were not shot in one sitting but often unanswered questions were edited out, toilet/water/makeup breaks etc.

If I was ever going to write an open letter to the BBC here's the changes I'd recommend to make University Challenge more accessible:
1. Make the questions less wordy and more easy
2. Include questions about pop culture and have pop songs in the music round
3. Have university students who look like they're in their twenties and enjoy themselves; half of them look so old they might as well have come on wearing togas
4. Get rid of Jeremy Paxman. He has about as much personality as a brick.

Clearly, the suggestions are a joke, not least because occasionally viewers from the US complain that there is no equivalent quiz in the US, only quizzes that are almost childishly easy. And making demands with regard to the students' behaviour is simply absurd. Lastly, the criticism of the popular Mr Paxman would suggest the one who has made this joke, is an American, because in the US, TV hosts draw attention to themselves, as if they are purpose of the show rather than their guests (Dick Cavett being an exception). In GB, however, a quizmaster doesn't draw attention to himself (unless it's a humorous quiz such as QI), since the show is not about him but the contestants.
