  • My sister (Age 9) and I (Age 10) were on a local TV show back in 1975 {We're in the front row, I'm in a green shirt & plaid pants & my sister is next to me in a red shirt with long blond hair}. The old video is choppy at first, but gets better later. Enjoy.Description

All those belly dancers in front of those boys, that was a special treat for them, they'll never forget it!

That's Bozo playing the banjo on the theme song. When I was a young guy, (13 or so) Bozo had my friend and I play guitar and banjo on his show for the kids to show them that kids could be musicians. Afterward, he invited my dad and I backstage to have milk and cookies and play banjos. It was surreal. What a nice guy. Mr. Houdini was a great guy too. He picked my pocket, stole my belt, my watch and my wallet. He called me back to return everything to me. I was floored. Sir Grave's coffin was backstage as well but I was surprised how short of a guy he was. Everyone at the studio was super nice.

I think this was from the Windsor, ON/Detroit, MI version of Bozo since they had Mr. Whoodini, Bozo's musician sidekick. I wish they had archives of all the shows ( I was on in '73) but apparently they just recorded over the old tapes as needed....

That was typical in those days. Romper Room is another show lost to the ages that way.

My wife said she was on the show but finding this video in next too impossible it would be somewhere between 1974-1976...

That was a common practice in those days. That's why you don't have many recordings of the Bozo Show in Chicago, because they just taped over the shows without any knowledge of how priceless they would be years in the future.

I think that was when they were alternating these with episodes taped in Boston in the mid-60s.

For those of you who remember these old Bozo shows back in the day, if I recall, many of these shows were still on the air well into the 80s. If you were a kid back then and you had cable with WGN on the system, you also got the Bozo Show from Chicago. Did it strange and kind of surreal having two Bozos with completely different personalities, completely different looks and two shows with different formats? You ever get into a conversation with one of your friends and you talk about what happened on "Bozo" that day? Did your friend ever ask which one or say, "That's not what happened " because you two watched completely different shows?

And in some parts of the country, if you lived near 2 markets that aired Bozo (or had cable in the 70s/80s), you could catch one version a hour before the other version. As for why some Bozo shows was lost, it was because many stations aired the show live and did not tape the show. a great example of a live Bozo that is lost is the 11-22-63 WGN Bozo Show. If WGN did tape anything in the time slot, it was likely after the Bozo show had a sudden end (about 12:45 PM CST) due to news from Dallas.

We had local philly shows chief halftown and captain Noah. Chief halftown was at my cousin's bowling party. I wasnt there, but he was at the alley doing a meet and greet. He had a thing with bowling i think he may have held a title even. Capt. Noah was an old man in a red captain/conductor /bellhop amalgamation of a suit and sorta sounded like wc fields. Oh and al albert with the teeny boppers . Hid show was a talent show of teens and kids. Teenyboppers were 4-6 year olds dressed like they were going for easter service or a fancy outing...telling jokes.

The song the belly dancers are dancing to was made famous by Dick Dale as “Misirlou” It was first heard in the Eastern Mediterranean in the 1920’s.

Wow, is that the whole audience? Definitely wouldn't qualify as a "cast of thousands " as the audience in Chicago was known to be, even though you were only able to fit about 200 people on those bleachers. I guess they were referring to the audiences watching on television as well as though seeing it live.
