I love how they 'run' by just walking really fast. Beautiful sight.
Elephants are the only land mammals than can't "jump," mainly because of their huge weight. Other four-legged creatures can gallop (or run) with all four legs in the air at some point during the "run" cycle -- unlike elephants which must have at least three legs in contact with the ground whether walking or running -- hence, the fast walk.

Derek was the one to rescue Kham La. So this special bond did start.
I still can't believe I was there just 2 weeks ago. And I got a hug from Darrick. The elephants are simply beautiful. They are so calm and you can tell they feel so safe. It is an amazing place.

Elephants are pure joy. I love how they get all excited and happy and run to be close to other elephants they're just meeting or haven't seen in a while and favorite people. That shows love without the necessity of having to say the words.

Indeed! I see the people lovingly wrapping their arms around the trunks and slowly stroking them with tenderness to which the elephants respond with flapping their ears and squealing their joyous responses. Love is a marvelous way of communicating.
