    I think toyota puts less power on their vehicles for reliability, the more power, the more wear you'll have. Faster moving components. Make sense. Toyota is all about reliability.

    • @goatsinapond
      @goatsinapond  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. This one has 7th injector and a high pressure fuel pump. It needs headers and exhaust. I read that performance didn't change much with a upgraded air intake though.

    • @LoneScout1
      @LoneScout1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@goatsinapond I have learned the hard way after 250k supercharged miles that the 7th mod is a must have as I’m currently replacing 2 cracked heads. I have the TRD headers/SS exhaust, and high flow air filter since truck was brand new but no other improvements. So the 7th going to happen now, and also replacing the fuel pump. What fuel pump did you go with? …and how did you find the 7th install/tune?

    I wouldn't say this engine lacks power in a 4Runner.
    I have a Japanese Hilux Surf of the next generation with a 5VZ engine. Also, by the way, produced in 2002. The traction reserve is quite enough to easily get away from 70-80% of the cars in the stream.

    Is there any tuning required? How does your kit balance out the Air/fuel ratio since you're forcing a lot more air into the intake? Is it just the bigger injectors that add the extra fuel?

    • @goatsinapond
      @goatsinapond  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have a tuner from Underdog Racing that balances the air fuel mixture. To accomplish this you need a bigger fuel pump and bigger injectors. I installed all these pieces on the 4runner.

    Great video…
    I have a 04 Tacoma Supercharged 270K miles (with all fuel mods, aem fic8)
    If you install headers(2.5”OD)and cat back(2.5”OD). Pipes and catalytic converters in between still at 2.25”OD.
    I installed a single high flow cat(2.5” OD in/out) and changed the pipes to a 2.5” OD to make all the exhaust even.
    Here in Florida we have no emissions… by the way the ECU didn’t notice its running on a single cat.

    • @goatsinapond
      @goatsinapond  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't completely rebuild at 200k on a Toyota 3.4L. I would check valves for clearance tolerances and adjust if necessary and other 200k maintenance. I have heard the same info about upgrades to the transmission. I haven't had issues with mine, but I also don't drive it really hard. Only occasionally do I get on the throttle.

    If I install a supercharger will it mess with my reliability and MPg?

    • @waynewalters426
      @waynewalters426 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've not installed a supercharger before, but from what I read it is somewhat less reliable and more likely to decrease fuel economy. The supercharger is going to increase the amount of air and fuel being aspirated. It will produce more heat too. This can be pretty rough on the engine, decreasing reliability. It's sort of a Murphy's Law thing: you have just added more things that can go wrong. That's not to mention you have to use premium gas after adding a supercharger. It's up to you to decide if the increase in power is actually worth it

    • @BigBoyz33
      @BigBoyz33 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i know a guy with the most recent Magnuson supercharger version. He says he has a safe tune on it so it wouldnt mess with reliability and the mpg have stayed the same. He gets 14 in the city and 18 in the highway. He drives a lot on the express/highways and said that he needed the supercharger because he got tired of trying to catch up to speed 😂

    • @goatsinapond

    Looking at a 2002 tacoma with 200k miles and its supercharged. Is it a good idea to purchase

    • @goatsinapond
      @goatsinapond  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want it, and the truck is acceptable condition for you, then get it. 200k isn't much for the 3.4L if it was taken care of. I like to check the maintenance records before buying. The supercharger also has to be rebuilt at certain intervals. It's worthwhile to ask about that and how long it's been on the vehicle.

I swapped all that equipment over to my 4runner, and put my stock parts on the 2000 then sold it after fixing the gas leak.
