  • In working with so many thousands of students over the last 30+ years, there are a few common things that beginners do out of necessity...
But there also comes a point when those particular ideas and techniques no longer serve you and it's time to learn how to let those things go.
So in this video, I'll cover 7 things that you need to consider as you progress.

So much truth in this lesson. So many TH-cam teachers tell you what you want to hear. Griff tells you what you need to hear, even if you may not like it at first - like keeping time all the time. Thanks Griff.

Great content. And as a subscriber to several guitar channels, I feel qualified to say pretty unique content as well, which is a real rarity.

Dang another mention of rhythm and maybe just maybe I am beginning to hear it. I suspect it is critical despite my resistance.

I like to tell beginning musicians: don't play notes. Say something.

Thank you for this video. You assured me that I’m actually a bit more advanced than I thought (I’d say advanced beginner by your description) and that some of the techniques I’ve been working on are appropriate for where I am. But you were able connect a few dots for me that I think will really help me progress. Thank you!

Everything you say in this is the truth. But it's work and dedication.

    Brilliantly presented..
Instead of “Play to think differently” you are teaching players to “Think to play differently”
Exactly what the transitioning player (all levels) needs.
Honestly, never saw a lesson like this one before and I’m excited for your next videos. Well done!
    Thank you

15:03 Almost no guitar players can read sheet music. It does not make much sense, there is no middle C on a guitar. The guitar has multiple unison notes of any note, making sheet music less effective.

Great video and great reorienting comments even for an intermediate guitarist that has forgotten some of these distinctions.
