BIG Updates at Magic Kingdom & HUGE Lightning Lane Changes | Disney World Summer 2024

- Let's have a hot, fun summer day at Magic Kingdom, where I'll show you a bunch of huge updates and changes - things that are closed, closing, opening, re-opening, lots of changes coming - and talk about a HUGE change Disney World is making to the Lightning Lane system that will start THIS SUMMER! Genie+ is going away forever and there's a new system in place that was just announced while I was filming this video! With all the Magic Kingdom changes - a new Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge, the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade is now closed forever, Tortuga Tavern has also closed indefinitely, Tiana's Bayou Adventure opens in a few days, some of my favorite hidden themed spots in Magic Kingdom, summer crowds are back, and more.... In the midst of our day, Disney made a HUGE announcement about changing the entire Genie+ Lightning Lane system, making a new system that is a weird hybrid of Genie+ and Lighting Lane+, giving Lightning Lanes new names and a whole new way to navigate lines at Disney World! This was really cool because I was able to sit down in the park and read and share the news with you in real time, and talk about the pros and cons and my initial thoughts on this change. But I can't wait to hear YOUR thoughts! I wish that they would put ice machines all around their parks. I hate to have to stand in line to get 4 small cups of ice

The new Lightning Lane Multi Pass looks EXACTLY like the old Fast Pass + …. EXCEPT… the pre plan window is shorter AND you have to pay for it. I truly think that when people say they miss the old Fast Pass + they are mostly meaning that they miss having a “no extra cost” option to ride at least a few rides without a crazy wait time. When Genie + launched it was only $15. Now most days that you truly need it the cost is around $40… per person. If you are one person… maybe. If you have a family of 5… well that’s not an easy decision. The one saving grace is that if you knew how to stack the LL picks… you can end up getting quite a few rides into one day. Now it looks like that will be going away but the cost remains. I wander if the 120 minute rule will stay in place... it doesn't seem so.
I remember being frustrated with Fast Pass + at times in the past because you get a solid 3 picks and then most of the rides you want would be “sold out” for the day and you only got 3 passes…. Or you had to settle for rides you wouldn’t need a fast pass for anyway. Especially in parks where the rides had tiered levels and you only got one top tier pick. In hindsight… there was nothing to complain about because it was free. Now????? Well… no one is forcing us to buy it…. Only time will tell.

Yes air conditioning and shady areas are great! It gets dog gone hot at the original Disneyland too, though not humidity for the most part! It can be in the 90s and 100s there often. It will be interesting to see how the new system works out, will see. Sounds like it will be another learning curve. Keep us up to date, especially for my daughter's upcoming trip out there, whenever it will be! Thanks Jackie!

I like the LL Multi Pass and LL Single Pass better than Genie+ for sure. But… FastPass was 3 months in advance and free! Wish FastPass would come back, but glad Genie+ is gone :)

Yea they actually work well in this summer heat! And when it gets really really hot, I put some water in the hat and put it back on my head and it feels amazing!

I cannot wait to ride POTC again, last time I rode it was before the first film. I also ordered my Jack Soarrow Mickey Ears I can’t wait. A newer lounge would be awesome, Park is looking great as always. With the new lightening lane it seems like it’s gonna be more of a pain. September be my first time visiting since 2001, I’ve been cramming at this genie plus lightening lanes tools into my head now I gotta unlearn those and learn the newer system 😢. Hope I’ll be able to get on some rides quicker than the standby lines.

Back when the Arcade was .25 to shoot, it was a lot of fun. At $1 it was not as much fun. When we went it was Free, but everyone lost interest quickly. Sad to see it go away but it makes sense.

LOVE your shirt! Summer of neon or no summer of neon, Max Goof is timeless! 😎 We're so excited to see the new Pirates lounge, and, as DVC members, we're pretty excited to see the DVC lounge too. Sad to see the shooting gallery go on the basis of history, theming and ambience...but as we've walked past it a hundred times and never once stopped in to actually use it, we probably contributed to its demise. 😅 Funny how Genie+ is effectively being retro-fitted with the previous FastPass+ features, after all that bravado! I'm sure that there will be some growing pains, but being able to plan in advance is key for us as out-of-staters; so overall I think we're happy with this change. Between this system overhaul and the Test Track reimagining, it seems like Disney is really trying to roll back the clock to our early visits. Back in the lamp with you, Genie! 😂 Great video, Jackie. We have not used the genie plus at all! We used to get fast passes and if you got what you needed,great. If not, no big deal.
It seems like it’s a combination of fast pass+ and genie + which is great my worry is how will it work if you want to park hop. I’m an annual passholder so how will it affect us …
We had to pause at 24:13 to better understand things. At EPCOT, Guardians of the Galaxy is not listed as a Tier I and thus must be in another category. That just makes things even more confusing especially for the first time visitor. Your "exasperated nostalgia" at 31:52 for the way things used to be is exactly our sentiment.
Yes guardians will be a single pass. I hope they make it so people can wait in a standby queue for it at some point because the virtual queue or LL only system stinks.

Hey there Jackie. Great job as always. I love how you point out the little details that are often overlooked. Between that and your enthusiasm and the helpful hints and tips that you provide, you could really have your own travel show on tv. Kind of like Samantha Brown. I haven't been to Disney World in almost 18 years, so it will probably be like a whole new world for me 😄. I don't understand why they can't go back to the original Fastpass system. Why should you have to pay more for something like that. It's already expensive enough just to get there. Oh, well, I haven't agreed with much that Disney has done lately anyway. But I still plan to go back at some point. It's just been so much a part of my life for so long. I guess it wouldn't bother me if I didn't care so much. And I rarely used the Fast Pass anyway. So that's enough rambling lol. Hope you and Sam are doing well. God bless!
This new multipass is just Disney's way of making more money, but this is also due to the fact that they revise the DAS system

The part of the new LL system that I really don’t like is for those of us that are outside the US and Canada, we can’t book anything until we land in the US, even if we’re staying is a Disney Resort. That doesn’t seem fair somehow ☹️

I am getting it on my birthday today lightning lane this summer I am already in I called in last night I might be able to go this month to Disneyland Orlando magic Kingdom this summer that is my stay will be at this is Jenna Dabao had a fun and a great summer I be back soon hopefully
I’m kind of in the middle about this fast pass change. What I’m worried about is all of Disney World Resort guests 7 days in advance will be trying to get fast passes at the same time. I also feel more pressure to buy the daily fast passes. I hope it all works out because we have a Disney world holiday booked in September. Kind of nervous of what it’s going to cost per day per person also. Let’s hope for the best

No international fastpass booking until we land it would appear. Travel agents have been advised. I've already worked around that (VPN + GPS location spoofer). Nice try Disney. I will be booking in advance from Australia.

I personally think universals express pass system works way better than anything Disney has ever done yes it’s more expensive but you also get free express pass if you stay at some of universals resorts

Thanks Jackie! Is the new multi lane pass going to cost the same price as it did before ? I'm sure this is all due to a flux of people moving over from DAS passes (who are now denied)to now having to purchase lightning lanes. For whatever reason I'm sure Disney is doing its best to accommodate.
From what they’ve said, the pricing will be varied the way it is now. More expensive on busier days, less on less busy days.

Not to be a party pooper but my beef with the lightning lanes and the express pass at Universal is the fact that they are charging for them. How much money does a company need? It's the nickel and diming the guests that I am not happy about. There are too many things being charged for that should have always been free. Parking fees are ridiculous and even the resort parking fees that are still at Universal resorts are quite ridiculous. I am glad Disney did away with theirs. But I know they basically buried it in the increase of the room rates. And to think I used to get a value resort room for $54 a night back in the early 2000s.

The new changes are not good for international traveller's as you cannot book lightning lanes until you arrive in the US 😢
It's definitely unfair on international guests, I hope Disney can sort something out so we don't miss out or we'll have to consider just doing Universal next time we visit
Problem with genie plus/lightning lane is that first I pay a fortune for my family in total we are 8 adults.. Then if we want this extra stuff we have to pay up to over 20 USD extra just to maybe get a pass for a ride per person... Nah we are better of coming at opening time and stay until closing time. We are not in a hurry so we spend those money o ther things. Personally i think Disney just wants to grab more money from you. And i get it because they are bleeding money

totally, it's all about the bottom line and they aren't going to leave money on the table and go back to a free system that we all loved, sadly. Most days I just do standby anyway, and you can still have a blast and ride everything you want (well, except TRON & Guardians that you need a boarding pass for!).

Well you know I'm Universal's biggest fan!! I cover every single thing they do and love every second of it lol... but yea, I love theme parks in general and am interested in the whole industry.
People going to Hollywood Studios will get the worst bang for their buck. This Multi Pass at HS are gonna make a lot of families mad when the only experiences they can book are Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, Disney Junior Play & Dance!, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Muppet*Vision 3D and Star Tours - The Adventures Continue. Every single experience I (copy and pasted) does NOT need a FastPass then and doesn't need a Multi Pass $$$ now. They are all walk on attractions. Waste of money.
I don’t like the new plan at all. There won’t be any good fast passes available 3 days out and it makes no sense that international guests won’t be able to book fast passes until they arrive in the US.

This is something brand new that was just reported today, I made this vid yesterday. But if that’s the case, that is so ridiculous on Disney’s part! I hope it’s not true and they find a way to fix it because that stinks! Also maybe a VPN would work? Or maybe if it’s a split stay, do Universal first so u can book your LLs while here? Not perfect, but the first hack I can think of off the top of my head. Once this system goes into place, I’ll test it and I’ll have international friends test it and see what’s what.
