Battle of Grunwald (called the first battle of Tannenberg in German "Schlacht bei Tannenberg", and in Lithuanian the battle of Żalgiris "Žalgirio mūšis") - one of the largest battles in the history of medieval Europe (in terms of the number of participants), fought on the fields of Grunwald On July 15, 1410, during the great war between the forces of the Teutonic Order, supported by Western European knights (mainly from Bohemia, from many Silesian principalities, from Western Pomerania and from other countries of the Holy Roman Empire) and the Prussians under the command of Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen, and combined Polish and Lithuanian forces (consisting mainly of Poles, Lithuanians and Ruthenians) and small Tatar troops supported by vassals of both countries (Hospodar of Moldavia, Duchy of Mazovia, Duchy of Płock, Duchy of Belz, Podolia and Lithuanian fiefs in Ruthenia) and mercenaries from Bohemia, Moravia and from the principalities of Silesia, as well as refugees from the Golden Horde and private banners (including the banner from Novgorod of the Grand Duke Lingwen Semen), under the command of the Polish king Władysław II Jagiełło and the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas.
This battle ended with the victory of the Polish-Lithuanian army and the defeat of the Teutonic forces, but it was not used to completely destroy the Order. Malbork - the capital of the Order - was not captured, because Vytautas' truce with the Livonian branch of the Order in the north (beneficial during the battle) expired and the Lithuanian army began to retreat. Despite surrendering to the royal army through Prussian cities (Olsztynek, Morąg, Dzierzgoń, the Main City of Gdańsk, the Old Town of Toruń, Chełmno, Elbląg), the defender of Malbork, Commander Świecie, Henryk von Plauen, still had over 200 active brother knights and 362 order commanderies at his disposal. scattered all over Europe, to whom he sent letters for help. The march of Jagiełło's army to Malbork was slow. By July 22, 1410 - when the first units of the Polish-Lithuanian army arrived at Malbork - the castle in Malbork was ready for defense, and its siege turned out to be ineffective. This period ends with the victorious battle of the Polish knights near Koronowo and the First Peace of Toruń.
I apologize for the poor quality of the recording, but the conditions were difficult, and the recording was handheld and only in HD quality.
