When man tries to reach God, he either falls infinitely far short or, worse still, creates a false god in order to believe he has built a tower reaching to this false god. When man allows God to reach him and fill him up with His divine light, beautiful masterpieces such as this one are the result.
people like Palesteina did not try to reach God. they "stole" from God with His permission ...and gave it to.the people. it s the same with most composers who understood there s a higher dimension.. a divine source...even if to.some it took an entire life...on their dying beds they realized God was, is and will be what is😊❤❤❤😊 be blessed you all. after Palestrina , please enjoy Bruckner
In my humble estimation one of the greatest pieces of polyphonic music ever written. On a past trip to Italy I went to Palestrina to be in the very home of this master composer.
An ascent on the ladder of love. Thank you, Father of Mercies, for letting a glimpse of heaven shine through your servant Palestrina. Like a deer that yearns for living water... how late have I loved you, O Beauty Ever Ancient Ever New!!!
They have spread the performing forces spatially in a very precise way that is unusual, to make the most of the beautiful acoustical space. It is certainly adding richly to the sound, the feeling of sound rising in an uncanny sort of way that suggests ascension. When you do that, though, you take a risk, because every singer's separate sound is more exposed and needs to be perfect in pitch, attack, tonal blend, everything. The discipline is perfect in this reading.
The intonation seems impeccable. (In college this may have been on my music professor's "required listening list." Now it's on my own "required listening list.")
My favourite Mass. I had the privilege to sing it during my 10 years with St Mary’s Cathedral, Choir, Sydney. Beautifully done. ❤ My disappointment is with the cameraman. The focus was always on the 6 women never on the men. When the tenors were singing their beautiful harmonies and the 1st & 2nd tenors answering each other the focus was still on the women.
What kind of camera director doesn’t know the music. Why wouldn’t the camera edits be cued up with the score. I had to just close my eyes and listen and ignore the terrible camera direction.
@@SouthCircinus the Music in this video is a mass written for the Latin rite that would have been possible to use liturgically everywhere until the 1970s. In the 70s the Catholic church changed the liturgy and replaced Latin chant with Corny folk music which can be heard in hymnals all over the Americas in most Catholic churches.
The real problem is thinking of replacing one with the other. There's nothing inherently bad or diminishing about adding musical expression that the average worshipper feels is more participatory, or accessible. There is room in the rite for both, which only makes the musical part of spiritual life richer when you have the sense to look at it that way, instead of taking sides.
No need to be so divisive. Perhaps I did not speak clearly; my apologies. I am saying that it would be ideal to have both forms of worship, both musical expressions of liturgy, still in familiar, active use. Not at the same time, or somehow blended, of course, if that is what I conveyed. I don't think that works. I have, by the way, sung a great deal of renaissance liturgical music, both in the ritual setting and in concert, and I agree that it should be in regular ritual as a choice, and not fading away into a concert oddity.
Truly beautiful music, but the sight of masks in the audience a sight of pure ugliness, a stark disobedience to the Lord, a sacrilege in such a beautiful church. Shameful.
The Marcellus mass is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever heard. And the Kammerchor does it so well.
When man tries to reach God through music create masterpieces like this. Absolutely divine music.
Or it's God trying to reach us ?

Get a grip - it's simply people singing and nothing to do with sky fairies.
You cannot reach God with anything else but His Son Jesus Christ. This music is however wonderful.

I once sang a whole Palestrina mass (amongst other things), right in his home town’s cathedral. It was… something
I am grateful for these amazingly talented people sharing their gift.
Ah, people. Have you any idea what you're doing?
Heaven itself sings like this. This can never be just a performance!
♥

I love this. Spectacular performance.
Such a moving performance. I don’t know why, but it brought me to tears.
Glory to God!
Chat GPT brought e here, I was searching for sofisticated music from renascentist age. Beautiful master piece!
Same ❤

Very well done, everybody. Palestrina would be proud!

Singen ist wirklich gesund. Danke sehr. 😲

Palestrina saved polyphony with this composition. May this composition save the mass.
Music of heaven. Glory to God! Praise to the choir.
Thanks Googletranslate,

Arte incommensurabile
Palestrina and Allegri show what the unaided human voice is capable of.
Divino
Magnifique 😍
Amazing!

I tried friends. I’m so sorry. Please don’t let their voice die.
Where is the Credo and Sanctus?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How on earth did anyone think replacing this with 1970s folk music was a good idea. Viva christo rey
What on earth are you talking about??

Just perfect
The chancel is not a place for the choir!
