- In the months leading up to the CrossFit Games in 2014, Mat Fraser was holding down a desk job. From inside the four walls of his cubicle, he made a decision: “I don’t want this for my life. … I’m gonna make a run at this CrossFit thing.”
That’s when he “just pushed all the chips in the middle of the table” and went for it.
Now he’s a two-time champion pursuing legendary status in the Sport of Fitness.
“Can anyone beat Mat Fraser?” producer Heber Cannon asks during behind-the-scenes interviews at Regionals.
CrossFit Seminar Staff member Dave Lipson smiles mischievously and quotes Anthony Hopkins’ character in “The Edge”: “What one man can do, another man can do. I’m gonna kill the fuckin’ bear.”
Dave Castro, Director of the CrossFit Games, has a simpler answer: “No.”
The most important response to the question comes from Fraser himself.

Mat is one of those guys with the freak genetics who has that scary work ethic. It’s easy to say you’re gonna work as hard as him but in the moment you remember why it’s so hard. Mad respect to Mat. Truly a once in a lifetime athlete.

I give that man props aside from being an incredible athlete, he is very humble demonstrated that when they asked him if he thought any of the rest of the crossfit athletes were at his level and he said yes and that worries him

The reason I think why Mat is so successful is he mentions how there isn’t a do over or he can do better the following week the Games comes once a year and he takes that shit seriously. Respect ✊🏽

I think he did it to avoid getting lethargic and Sammy probably took a lot of gear that couldn’t fit on the plane
Is he supposed to not train for several days? Not that hard to put it together that he needs to train every day and driving for 3/4 days doesn't work for his lifestyle/job
They're a team. He's said so himself and that's why he's retiring. He doesn't want to put his "team" through that anymore.
