Harsh Vocals are interesting like that, it isn't a standalone thing you learn, its like a skill tree. Singing well is the basis to any extended singing technique, screams and growls included. Even if you never hear a harsh vocalist sing clean, if they are a great harsh vocalist, you can expect that 99 percent of the time they are going to be a pretty damn good clean vocalist as well. That is why the whole "they just scream because they suck at singing" idea is the dumbest thing, not all singers can scream, but most screamers can sing.
