Great movie! As a 62yo gay man I have experienced so many of these emotions in real life. When I was just out of high school my mom found out about me and threw a fit. She tried to turn everyone against me and made me look like a monster. However, my dad came to me and said things would work out. He also told me he remembered how it was when he was young with some of his buddies. It's a natural thing we should never be ashamed of. It's part of finding who you are and it's ok. After my mom cooled off and my dad passed, she told me she thought he was the same. I don't know for sure but I love them both. Oh, I also love to paint. WOW what a film.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts @johnHaroldjr. I'm sorry you're coming out experience was so tough, that must have been very challenging for you and it sounds like it still has resonance today. I'm glad to hear you've found peace with how your parents handled the situation. When we can find the grace within ourselves to forgive others - it can transform our lives.
I think a whole lot of men are a bit gay. Like maybe most.
I agree. I think most men are gay men are more pragmatic and certainly know how to pleasure a man sexually. Great flick.🎉
This is so TRUE ! Almost all men in this generation got the touch of gay but not expressing it cause of society. @@ct6852

I was a teenager in the 70's also. It was easy and fun being gay in Miami.
@@jonmcintosh2729 I hope their freedom is used wisely.
This movie outlines a classic situation of a guy holding in his true feelings to protect his family. I'm 78 and I went through 2 marriages before I finally admitted to myself the truth. To my utter amazement my 3 kids and their mother took it all in their stride and I just wish I had had the guts to be honest with them and myself sooner. But in the UK in the 1960s it was still punishable with a prison sentence if you were openly homosexual and I was scared shitless, particularly when my very Edwardian father caught me and another boy having sex. I think that this movie, although a little predictable and corny at times was well acted.
Incredible story - thanks for sharing!

I had a boyfriend from the Philippines...so cute and nice
After 32 years of marriage my parents divorced. It is so common now and somehow acceptable. I was 15, sophomore in high school. I'm 8 of 8 children. In 1984, I left high school in my senior year in January. I had earned all my 42 credits and I was on the honor roll. I was so scared. I couldn't use my scholarship I earned for college. My family fell apart. I took any and every job a 17 year old could get since their divorce was ugly. Mom had to sell the house because my father was due 50% of the net revenue. My father blamed his homosexuality on my mom and as he would say to her you, and "your" kids, did this to me. I'm 57 now, single, very independent, never married, no kids and no family. I ran and run from commitments, because in my heart, I always knew I was gay as well. Looking back on it all, it made sense. I am lonely, semi retired, living off the grid in my motorhome, to finally grieve, absorb and breathe. Still always waiting for the next shoe to drop.
Get a man be happy

Incredible movie leaving neither nothing to the imagination nor what obviously needed to be said. A true work of art. Poignant and ever so moving, truly relevant in today's world. True love embraces everyone. It's the eternal hug of the universe. Too bad so many of us choose not to embrace it.
Learning to love unconditionally is always key but it must start with the self. I cannot genuinely extend to others what I'm lacking in myself.
this is by far one of the movies I can actually remember and loved to rewatch. The music and the quotable quotes of life is everything for me.

Honestly gay or not cheating is not okay just because he wasn't able to come out and embrace his true self it doesn't justify him cheating on his wife especially with your son's best friend lol 🤭 the wife reaction wasn't because she got cheated on it's because Nathan didn't go to her first and told her about his struggles with his sexuality, i like how this movie didn't paint the wife as a villain of the story she was understanding 🌹 Great movie ♥.
I agree, but when you are struggling with your sexuality for years and years and it builds up those feelings become too intense to contain. I'm not justifying his behavior, but I am saying it's extremely difficult when you've been told your entire life to be straight and you're not. So this is not the typical cheating scenario.
It's quite a bit more complicated than just "cheating". I'm glad that my country has mostly moved on from the mandatory closet chapter to the point where people from younger generations won't even completely understand why things like this used to happen all the time. Because they don't any more, and shouldn't. This story is the product of an older generation where we put impossible expectations on everyone. These days, you're mostly right that this is "not okay". But in the past, it was completely inevitable.
I was shocked by how strong and understanding the mom turned out to be... Chase wasn't the only one who was pretending...
Yea, mom was pretending to be strong but inside everything was shattering.
This movie held my attention from start to finish. When the father said, 'I have no one to talk to..." I felt such sympathy for Chase and Nathan. But when the wife saw them together, I knew that there would be trouble, but the truth can be painful; and I felt the tension in this movie. The actors were phenomenal and believable. I want this movie in my DVD collection.
I agree, the acting and directing were great.
Gay mahluk yang dilaknat tuhan menjadikan pasangan lelaki dan wanita bukan lelaki dan lelaki didalam kitab suci umat islam mahluk yg membuat kerusakan dimuka bumi
True
I totally get the whole movie and the fact that people feel sometimes they have no options or outs. Its hard to be someone you are not all the time. I have lived with the idea i am not who I am "suppose" to be but who I am. For this man, he built a family and a life around his secret and the first time he found something real.. it overpowered him. I know there are many more people out there who feel they are doing the right thing and many feel it's the only thing, and with anything it gets so tiresome to keep it up. This was a really good video and I wish more people could see it and appreciate it as much as I did. Just sorry he discovered there was more to life after most of his life had a different purpose. But who knows sometimes.
Oh I love this movie and I especially love reading the comments. Feels like I'm not alone and I'm older now but my parents accepted me and my sister and brother they love me just the way I am. I've been in the same relationship way back 2016, I almost broke up my partner family because of the conflict we had made both side. The only way to avoid and forget everything is to flewn away and work abroad. Since i left from the Philippines 2016 his family became better again. He is 41 years old that time and I'm 26 years old. We've been sharing the love for 4 years. His wife has that huge instinct and speculation about our relationship but we tried to hide it until such time he slept in my apartment and his wife knew about it. I felt that huge conflict between his family and me so decided myself to leave. until now I'm still working abroad and always looking forward to find a perfect match and perfect relationship without stepping other family and putting to trouble. Still hoping to find one❤

After watching this movie I realize I made the right choice by never dating or even marrying A woman. Thank you God for giving me the courage to not wanting to hurt somebody else in this way, even though I grew up suppressing my feelings.😢
*Let me first say that I liked the film, the cast, and the storyline! It inspired me to write a LOT!*
I think that the father's character development was such an interesting thing to witness, and the line that he said to Chase (I think) "if I had came out 20 years ago this wouldn't have happened" was a bit chilling. I mean the man repressed is sexual feelings toward men because his wife was already pregnant when they were both very very young. He became a father when he hadn't figured out who he was as a man yet...which led to this entire situation.
Goes to show that society, age, background, and circumstance can and does play a very large part on one's development as a person.
Another thing worth mentioning is the whole "relationship" between Chase and Nathan and how it was very circumstantial. It was portrayed in a very well done manner. It's important to note how there was no inference of premeditated cheating. Chase wasn't interested in Tyler's father from the beginning and none of it was planned. This puts emphasis on Nathan's feelings spilling over past breaking point and sexually confiding in Chase, as well as Chase's inferred yearning for a genuine connection to a man and giving into Nathan in a moment of emotional vulnerability. When they slept together we as an audience don't necessarily feel furious or disgusted with either character because we understand how they got here. This is a very pertinent element to the story.
I also want to speak on Stacey's character. I initially felt uneasy and unconvinced of her behavior and decisions after Nathan and Chase kissed. I was like, she she got upset, angry, and then sad but didn't do anything else really. However, its because deep down she knew all along that Nathan was probably gay. Now, it is implied that she stayed with him not solely because she was pregnant but because she thought being with him and "sticking it out" would aid in the be ridding of her husband's gay attraction. I actually think that she handled the situation much better than I expected, which is what made it slightly unbelievable for me, initially. However, I believe her character was stuck on the bargaining stage of the 5 stages of grief. She may have went through denial before/ after Tyler was born. She was later forced into anger and depression after she confronted Nathan, but was able to arrive at acceptance pretty quickly because she had delt with the other stages for so many years.
May I also say that Birdie was legit one of my favorite characters in this film. I love how she was so freaking helpful even without fully realizing it. I was like bruh this little girl is something else. As soon as I saw her appear in the film, I was like she's gonna be a hot mess. haha The actress that plays her, Grace Vukovic, is now 26 (two years older than me). I wonder how she's doing.
*Final Thoughts*:
Immediately after finishing the film, I was kind of hoping for Chase and Nathan to reconnect and even possibly leave together. That was the hopeless romantic in me talking and wishing nonsense lmao. As much as a love a gay love story where an older attractive man loves a younger man, I am so glad, I repeat, SO GLAD they did not get together in the end because if they did, it would diminish the innocence and the integrity of both character's development.
If they stayed together Nathan would look like he wasn't taking accountability for his part in cheating on his wife and Chase would look like the "side piece" who became the main. When in actuality they both just wanted love, connection, and male intimacy but didn't truly love each other. They both got caught up in intense feelings and got carried away. Staying apart and taking some space to think (in Nathan's case) is very important and helps us veiwers empathize with them.
Shout out to Chase's friend Jarod and Tyler's I guess "girlfriend" Bre. Both characters were very supportive and non-judgmental.
I also loved how Tyler told Chase that he still loved him in the end (in his own little straight way of doing so). I wished his homophobia was addressed more though...I mean he did call his dad and his best friend f*gs. However, he was angry and hurt plus he did try to be understanding pre and post Nathan and Chase's affair.
Phenomenal film. I remember watching this when I was just a teenager, I kept asking myself how someone could surpress their feelings for so long. Then I found myself in Chase’s situation. Started getting close to one of my classmates dad after a pool party. From there we started just fooling around at first, to him opening up how he actually felt. Luckily we ended everything between one another because we agreed that he needed to talk to his significant other about his feelings in his life so we both would stop doing this. From what my classmate told me (which she doesnt know still), they’re divorced and he’s more happy now, while my classmates mom remarried.
I love this movie because every one is real and genuine. I am 61yo, Chinese American, first marriage(18 years)with a woman and having a daughter, second marriage with a man until now(another 18 years already). The divorce took 3 years. It could take forever if she didn’t hire a group of people kidnapping and torturing me for 15 days in a Chinese cave. Fortunately my family stood with my husband (then bf) and my daughter choose to live with us instead of her mom. My husband and I just celebrated our 10th anniversary and we are looking for several more to come. Thanks America!
That's a heartbreaking story - with a beautiful ending. I'm sorry you went through such a traumatic event. Congratulations on your anniversary.

"That's great. Really great! Great waffles, Mom!" Perfect timing, and hilarious. I forget how great this movie is, until I watch it again. One of the best.
Beautifully portrayed how it really is. I have been through the mill watching this. Thank you.
Okay, get a cup of coffee. This is rather long. This is a nice film. I had some struggles with the first 30 or so minutes as the connection between Chase and Nathan began. However, after that point, the movie seemed to flow much better. Despite that, you did an exceptional job at portraying a mother and wife, Stacey, as one who has deep compassion even in the midst of her pain. That was done with great realism. There are women in this predicament who only wish that they could be so understanding. Please understand that I am not suggesting that wives should just continue on as if nothing has happened if they discover that their husbands are seeking love and attention outside the marriage. Although this refers to either a female a male, there are so many extra layers to the male-attraction dilemma. This is especially the case if the husband has attempted to live in the shadows for 25+ years. I am suggesting, however, that we all can benefit from doing our best to listen to others' stories, while undergoing the pain from the situation - and, yes, the pain is deep. Thank you for this valuable movie. And, kudos to the exceptional actors.
You are so wrong. This is have nothing to do with 'seeking love outside marriage'. This is about how homophobic prejudice forced people live in lies in the first place. And as a result nobody are happy
Great movie..on multiple levels and many layers...

A film wrapped in humanity with superb acting (Thea Gill/Stacey exceptional). Not all of these situations have such accommodating understandings. Seeing the world through Birdie’s eyes is the lesson. In the end, loving yourself, understanding yourself, and having compassion for others will help to lead the way to acceptance.

Being gay is not the problem (if you can even call it a "problem"). The problem is cheating on your doting wife and insulting the hospitality of your best friend by sleeping with his married father. Now THAT is the problem, and it is a big one.
I could not agree more! Though I suppose there are two problems here: both characters making ultimately selfish and reckless choices. Life certainly would be easier if people could master finishing their current relationships with respect, with dignity, and all the grace they can muster before embarking on such a journey with another. Both characters" poor choices come down to selfishness, as well as a lack of self-respect. Yes, some will say the heart wants what the heart wants, yet timing is everything, and people don't need to be this reckless to be free, and to be happy. Sad ending really, as nothing was really gained other than a one off, whilst trust, and relationships are lost, or irrevocably damaged. It would have been somewhat comforting if Nathan had a rendezvous with Chace at the bus stop, and there was some hope of them being happy together. Alas, it's just a film, but reality plays out the same all too often. We can all be unconventional, and happily gay without losing sight of our principles. Excellent film nonetheless, and may it be a cautionary tale for anyone finding himself in similar circumstances, no matter how tempting they may seem at the time. Cheers for stating the truth!
Agree that gay dude is stupid wtf

45:27 first gay panic attack. Dan acted it sooooo well. Thank you algorithms for suggesting this great movie to me. Love Dan's deep and calm voice. And omg, he really looks like Henry Cavill. Thea is so gorgeous. I love her soothing voice too. Overall, this is a masterpiece 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much, really glad you enjoyed it and hope you'll try some of my other shows too! www.border2border.ca/shows
Cheating is not ok… it doesn’t matter what is your true self
I do not know what to think about this movie. I would have set the world on fire if I found out my best friend and my dad did this. LOL
When Chase sat next to Tyler on that beach log, I so wanted him to say 'Go Steelers'...
But i was happy to hear Tyler say it too.
This film surprised me in the most positive way. I really loved it.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you'll try some of my other shows too. www.border2border.ca/shows
This is worth everything, it's very American that's like an everyday thing... thank you for sharing your video, it does stay with you...
Absolutely!! Glad you enjoyed it. And it was proudly made in Canada by Canadians. ;)
I found this movie by accident...and it is my second viewing. Deep issues and great acting. I wonder what a part two would be like...
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed and hope you'll explore some of our other TV series and movies. www.border2border.ca/shows
Have you read the novel Mulligans? I'm considering writing a sequel novel to Mulligans. Would you be interested to read to find out what happens to Nathan and Chase? What would your happily ever after be for Nathan and Chase? How about for the other members of the family?
Mr Davidson so gorgeous x
@@simonpeters3362 he’s mine! 👀 saw him first! 🤣😂😅
Key words for this movie...

2).love
3). understanding
4). Respect
5).acceptance
6). And communication
It's a very nice movie very educating and informative.👍👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing!! Appreciate you watching and sharing how Mulligans moved you.
Dan Payne is gorgeous!!! Love the movie. That child was too grown in it, though.
Falling in love with a hot guy is easy. Him loving you back in return is the hard part. Every guy desires love and one guy
After opening up everything feels free❤❤❤❤ and life starts to become enjoyable
That's so true isn't it! The difference between 'in the closet' (with any secret) and being out and honest is truly life changing.
Excellent movie. Glad it was in my recommended section.
It is not Nathan Fault, It is not Chase fault, It is not Tyler fault,.....etc., AND It is not our fault. I was born like this, these our feelings, this is our life, this is our heart! We did our best to maintain who are loving us and surrounding us and threw out our selves and our rights to have a real life, a real love, real feeling, real warmth. my heart is broken for Nathan small daughter and his wife, but I'm happy for the new hope for both lovers.
Very courageous, the way it handled these difficult issued. Much better on 'mixed marriage' than Maestro, which left things obscurred and muddled.
I like the story line it's good..
I love it.
The ending was very good.. Nathan find what he was actually..
..
I loved the movie, loved the theme

This is an awesome movie! It is my second time watching it and it was even better watching it for a second time. Great actors, great story and great setting! Love, love this movie :)
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed Mulligans again your second time around! ❤
First she saying that she wants her daughter to be 'normal' and then she asked 'why don't you told me?'😂
How typical.
Thank you for this.
She don't want their child life to be harder to live. She is very supportive I believe... She deserves happiness too
@@Anguu777 she is uneducated rude homophobic who think that hetero is normal and gay is not normal. And exactly people like her makes life for gay people harder.
It is a good indie movie, well produced and acted with some powerful lines. For me, there were a whole lot of plot machinations (the first half of the film) before the reality set in, and genuine things were said and done. I would have liked less of the former and more of the latter. The fact that every kiss was seen by someone else seemed a bit forced and overly dramatic. Thanks for naming all the background actors in the credits. Nice touch and should be done routinely.
What a wonderful movie. I really enjoyed it. All the actors in this movie have some issues, but the one that has it the hardest in my opinion is the husband and wife. The husband for having lived 20 years a lie and for betraying his wife. I love this movie it's definitely a 5 star movie.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for your 5 star rating. ;) Have you tried our miniseries Shadowlands, there's some romance you may enjoy.... www.border2border.ca/shadowlands
Golf gives dad a chance to be himself.
This film shows the unfortunate result of hiding who you are. I'm glad the ending was not an extremely destructive conclusion, but it shows a broken family who are trying to figure things out. 👍
This movie leaves me making me want to cry.
That's why you should never lie to yourself and others too
Love this movie . Charlie David is great .
Thanks for watching and spending some time on my channel!
What a great movie. I'll definitely have to watch it at another time. ❤
1x 4me, I got it from beginning 😅.
I remember watching clips of this movie years ago before TH-cam changed. I am so grateful say that I've seen the whole thing now and quite love it. A face look familiar just can't put a name to him is all. But happy to read others who shared their thoughts of this movie.
Thanks for watching!

Great movie!!
I’m 51. I didn’t think the acting was that great, but i sure would have loved to see movies like this in 1980.
At the age of 8? Or do you mean you would have liked to have seen these types of movies when you were a teenager?
Making Love was 1982.
Am I the only one who wants Nathan and Chase together
Why there is no sound in this movie ?
Have you read the novel Mulligans? I'm considering writing a sequel novel to Mulligans. Would you be interested to read to find out what happens to Nathan and Chase? What would your happily ever after be for Nathan and Chase? How about for the other members of the family?
I cried the first time I saw it, way back 😊
