    You asked for suggestions on how to improve on this first teaching video. My suggestion is: don’t change anything! This is the clearest, most comprehensive lesson on steel bending that I have ever seen, and one of the best over-all guitar lessons on TH-cam.

    Being able to teach effectively is more difficult than one would think. You do it very well. Extremely well. Very natural. You explain what, why, when and where. Instead of playing the lick and say there ya go!!

    I like the mood the lamps set. I had a guitar teacher years ago that had a lamp lit room that was just relaxing and cozy. We would do an hour lesson and then just sit and talk music for two more. He would introduce me all kinds of music. Put on an album, talk about it and demonstrate. He taught me how to listen to music as well as play. Your videos have that mood. 👍

    Really enjoyed this tutorial. Never realized all the possibilities on stretching triad shapes. I use an .011 high E set, so I might change to .010 or .009 on another guitar to facilitate these bends. I use a glass slide a lot in between riffs. The thinner strings do not allow me to slide. Thank you. I'll be back!

    Some 3 years ago I decided to actually try to learn a bit of theory after 30+ years of playing. That has been a very interesting journey with quite a lot of frustration. Have bought many books and watched endless you tube videos. Most has not been helpfull at all. Maybe I am at a point now where Im more open/ready for this kind of theory/practice, but I can honestly say that this is he best and most usefull I have ever watched. I know there a lots to practice and work on, but for the first time I dont feel frustrated, actually pretty calm on optimistic. Thank you Alex 😀

    Great video Alex. I toured many years ago with country bands, and later on adapted many of those country licks into my blues and R&B playing. I teach now, and still love learning new things to share with my students. You showed me some licks I remember hearing from the great country pickers, but never quite got around to learning. I'm a long-term subscriber, who really admires your fine playing in a variety of stylistic settings. My focus for the last few decades has been jazz -- as a player, particularly chord melody on acoustic archtop -- but I come from a rock background and also love western swing and country guitar. You have extremely impressive facility in this faux steel sound that I love, and I have only great praise for your premier teaching video. Your point about practicing toward a very clear concept of the sound you want resonates with me -- I have a short pep talk for myself, "Play it how you want to hear it!" Congratulations on a first-rate start and best wishes for continued success. -- Elizabeth

    Hey Alex, I really like your playing and I absolutely love that you take up jazz and country. Over here in Denmark I feel that a lot of guitar players only care for one genre f.ex jazz. If you go back to melting pot of American music in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s you’ll notice how closely related theese genres are. Western Swing of course being a great example of this. Thanks for the inspiration mate🎶🎶🤙

      Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes you’re exactly right!.. back in the day it was all just good music!.. genres were invented by the marketing guys in suits and I find it very sad that some people like to live their musical lives within those arbitrary boundaries!
      Thanks for stopping by my Danish friend!

    Loved this lesson. Had been gradually getting into nailing down triads but it all seemed a little robotic and uninteresting, like just going through the motions but this gives each little shape a bit more depth with finding the notes to bend into the triad. Now looking forward to getting back into them and having a bit of fun learning more about the nice stuff that lies around the edges of the triads (also I like the way you describe them as a must-have/“five-a-day” component of practice - nice way to highlight their importance). Subscribed.

    Really nice to watch and listen to Alex, I agree with previous comment, just keep your low key clarity as it is and let your smooth playing do the talking. I also like how you don't labor the point, alot of u tube stuff breaks things down so slowly spelling everything out. A good lesson inspires the viewer to grab the idea and nut the rest out themselves. good stuff.

      Thank you so much Adam, I really do appreciate the feedback. It’s hard to strike the right balance on TH-cam but I’m starting to get a feel for what my particular audience favours in regards pacing etc. thanks again my friend, 🙏🏻

    • @adamcherry434
      @adamcherry434 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks Alex, the right balance is an elusive quest, especially on U tube where the tail wags the dog. Do what comes naturally, aim for the Pros and intermediate guitarists, the ones that aren't far off gigging but haven't got the time luxury or the band network yet. No one has time to jam these days, its "send a file and let me listen to it". Anyway, love it.
