First, good video. For the longest time this was my favorite X game because I loved the scope of it. It no longer is, and I probably would say X4 is "objectively" better but I do think X5 has interesting lore implications. I AM pretty sure Sigma was referring to Wily. It feels like a lot of what they did with Weil in the Zero games might have been meant for Wily. But they pivoted away from that when X6 was made. You mentioned the "Quickman and Devil" bosses being there for some reason when I think it was supposed to hint that Wily was involved. There's also a line that's only in the Japanese version of X2 where Serges recognizes X and says stuff like "Being defeated by the robotic momento of light." There's this big underlying plot-line in the series of Sigma being fascinated by Zero and likely looking into his background. And heavily implied he found an A.I. of Wily behind the scenes manipulating things from the shadows. (It's also pretty much confirmed by the ending as well that Light is an A.I. as well, able to mess with reality like a Cyber Elf.) The big thing is you need to be really paying attention and X2's localization didn't help. But yeah, the story...At face value... It's a mess. I hate the justification for the X vs Zero fight in the good ending. In the bad ending it's great (until Zero is perma-dead) but yeah... I think the biggest failure of this game is the X vs Zero fight. That was built up to over the course of years, ever since the end of X2, and then when it happened....Yeah. From that lens, makes sense that this was supposed to be the last, but probably for the best it wasn't. Big moral of the story, big sad the Maverick Hunter X series never ended up being a thing.
Also yeah the gameplay of this game is wacky LOL. I think it's absolutely messy in execution, but I think the time limit thing is a fun novelty. I THINK the reason they made it so you can fail the cannon is to lower the chance of someone rushing into the final levels without the boss weapons? Probably could have used some work. I think a lot of this game's design decisions seem to revolve around the devs compensating for the time limit. Having infinite lives means there's minimal punishment to the count-down, which is nice but also has lasting consequences on the difficulty. This game is definitely too easy imo. The bosses are also great but man they all have the most obnoxious case of Spark Mandrill I have ever seen. This game is just weird. Plain and simple lmao.
You're better off playing the stages because you have a significantly higher chance of getting the good ending, but it's still not completely guaranteed even if it's unlikely. Idk it's just weird in execution.
You're actually going to pursue the X6 and X7 reviews? Bro, consider for a moment, your sanity. Those games might as well have a giant shit dripping sign plastered outside that says "abandon hope all yee who enter here."

My personal head cannon is The GnR names are their "Real" names, and the Traditional names are their military code names
That's kind of a cool way to think of it
Wait what? It doesn't matter if you actually play the stages? That's the craziest branching path system of all time
