  • Here is a review of my Alpkit Cloud Base Inflatable Sleeping Mat. This is quite possibly the best budget inflatable sleeping pad out there. RRP £44.99 but currently in the sale for £37.99. An inflatable sleeping mat is one of the best investment in camping gear you can make. An inflatable sleeping pad will transform your night's sleep when wild camping.
The comfort of this Alpkit Cloud Base Inflatable Sleeping Pad is really, really good. 5cm thick doesn't sound a lot but its enough to remove any harsh, tough ground.

    Thanks is what they say:
Lightweight, thick, comfortable and easy to inflate and deflate. Cloud Base is designed to make lightweight camping comfortable night after night after night after night leaving you refreshed and ready to get after the day.
Cloud Base is criss-crossed with diamond shaped chambers that act as little pillows of air. As the mat has no foam inside it rolls down small making it especially suited for activities where space is in short supply such as back packing and bikepacking.
Comfort comes in big supply courtesy of its generous 5 cm thickness. Inflation is via a wide one-way valve which makes inflation and deflation quicker, and means you can take a breath without the whole mat going down.
The whole mat rolls away into its own stuff bag which also includes a repair kit for emergency field repairs.
    Key Features
    Easy inflate/deflate with one-way valve
    Thick yet light for comfort
Stuff sack and repair kit supplied

I am looking to get a new pad and in two minds .. this one or the yellow one at Decathlon, for £39.99.
    About the same regarding specs.

There's quite a few inflatable pads that share very similar designs. I'm not tied to any brand but I can recommend this, the Antur Supply Co mat and the Unigear Camfy mat. All comfy and none of them have let me down.

Can't fault the Decathlon one in several years of wild camping in the summer.....? Might even pack a little smaller even in the extra long version???

I totally agree with your review, as well as being good for backpacking/wild camping I used mine last year forty days straight in Africa.

Got one about a year ago when they were an even better bargain. Would still pay the retail price now. I found it would fill with moisture from using your lungs to inflate but a dry bag pump still works perfectly! Cheers for the video!

These look a lot like the Robens version, and I think there's a LOMO one as well.
I think there's some difference in the weights iirc, so there may well be some differences between
them all (?); be interesting to know if the Robens / Alpkit pumps sacks will work in various combinations ....

O I've taken your word Andy and just ordered one I have the oex traverse was on offer think 21 from millets but its thin and I've bad back previous break many years ago,so with a karrimor karrimat which is 5 season you think be OK for winter also?my plan is to use all 3 together

If using an inflatable mat like this in winter I could suggest using a roll mat or z mat underneath too. For the rest of the year you’ll be fine 👍

£44 not budget mate, £10 - £20 is budget. Around the £40 mark the Unigear Camfy P3 wipes the floor with the Alpkit pad and a better R rating too.

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

If you’re in the market for a budget insulated mat then the Unigear mat is excellent. I’ve heard mixed reviews of the cheap inflatable mats so I’m a bit uncomfortable reviewing one. At least I know this one is good. Also £44 is still budget compared to the bigger brands.

This IS budget mate, I’ve used mine all over and for spring & summer for years now & easily competes with Thermarest/Nemo/Exped etc at about a third of the cost.
You would not find me sleeping on an air bed that cost £10-20 & I doubt it would last one season of decent use as the quality & materials used would be sub-standard to say the least ….
