I met her 32 years ago as an usher at Harbourfront in Toronto. She was straight talking and nice to her fans. I wish I had known about her heroism earlier and that she was punished for it. I would have thanked her.

The first time I saw Eartha Kitt was in that Catwoman episode. It was in the '80's, and I was in middle school(in the throes of puberty). NO ONE had ever mentioned that Catwoman was once played by a Black woman. I was instantly enthralled, and I spent weeks trying to perfect my purr, because of her. RIP Eartha Kitt.

Eartha Kitt was an amazing woman, beyond Category in show business, actually. She was blackballed in America by President Johnson for speaking out against the Vietnam War, at Lady Birds luncheon. But they forgot the Catwoman had nine lives and her comeback in the 1978 Broadway musical Timbuktu!, a decade later, was as spectacular as her downfall in 1968. This is a great video thanks for the upload.

I was expecting her question to be disrespectful and accusatory or somehow showed the president in some bad light, instead her question wasn’t only valid but it offered some insight to a problem. The most powerful man in the world apparently felt so threatened this that he thought it was worth spying on her and apparently spreading misinformation about her? Wtf?!
I think it’s sad that I’m only now hearing about this some 45+ years later. It also adds to the mountain of evidence that the CIA shouldn’t exist, as it’s done more harm to this country and the world than any other US government agency.
I agree with others, a longer documentary would have been nice.

Everybody's Dad had fought in WW2, so people weren't anti-war in a general sense, but Vietnam was different & people knew it was a bad idea. No one had the vocabulary to say so. Muhummad Ali and Eartha Kitt somehow did have the ability to say what people thought and get to the essence of it. Because they were Black though, it was impossible for America to respect them for it. The nation took a real blow to the spirit in that war, we should have listened. Lyndon Johnson was an excellent man (we need him today), but the war destroyed everything it touched.

They purposefully ended by showing her being invited back to the White House under Carter, the unstated message being “we all know the CIA did bad things back then but everything is fine now”.
