My sternum keeps cracking for some reason. Some days I can feel a lot of pressure, and when I can finally twist in a way to get it, *touching face meme*
IIRC the cracking sound is the result of gas build up in the soft tissue around a bone or joint being released.
You're basically popping a bubble.
It's probably just that you happen to have gassy cartilage in your sternum.

My understanding of the bone cracking thing is that there's no actual concensus in the medical community on whether it's good or bad to do. They're not even really sure what causes it. I am not a doctor and I have given no medical advice here.
We kinda do know tho. There is a liquid, that works kinda like machine oil between joints, and it can make bubbles that can be popped if you twist them right. That popping is the cracking sound. There are videos about it on TH-cam.
And it js assumed to be not harmful (as long as you don't damage the joints themselves obviously). In fact, there was a guy (in the UK I believe) that got so annoyed by his grandma who was telling him to stop cracking his fingers he did a 50 year long experiment where he would intentionally crack one of his hands every day to see if it does any damage. It didn't. There is a video about him as well.
Also I personally love cracking my bones, so I can do that with most joints in my body, and so far it didn't seem to hurt any of them in 21 years of my conscious life. Maybe I can snag Henya for dat JP visa :3

I did bone cracking and have been unable to do anything for 3 years.
Pinched my vagus nerve in my atlas and atlas is permanently unstable.
Feels horrible with heavy head and pressure as if spine wants to pierce my brain from below.
Chiropractic adjustment saved my vagus nerve so instantly got back my life from constant breathlessness and intermittent heart skipping a beat scaring me to death.
DO NOT crack your neck using the force of your hands.
As someone with hyper mobility I crack CONSTANTLY! Maybe I'll use this to get the visa lol
The research on popping your joints is still inconclusive about if it's good or bad. There are doctors and chiropractors on both side, and even those that are in the middle. So really, we don't know. It's never ACTUALLY been linked to any negative stuff, but it's never been linked to anything good other than minor pain relief or release of endorphins.
