Seeing young messi is like watching The Super Saiyajin before his first time transformation. You could already see something super special about him. Pure magic aura
This was the same Messi that got ignored by Pekerman at the 2005 confederations and the 2006wc. Barca was already starting him against big opponents in the UCL but somehow Pekerman ignored him for Tevez
Messi was rather fresh in 2005. He got injured in April 2006, partially thanks to Chelsea’s Karate players. Otherwise he would play a more important role in Argentina’s wc campaign.
Saviola and Tevez? I whish it was only them. Pekerman raised f#%&ing Julio Cruz from the bench against Germany instead of Messi. If he had chose Messi, Argentina might have won in overtime and maybe go on to win the WC (they were great at the time), who knows...
@@HaimNachmias in that worldcup Pekerman never had any intention to play Messi. Messi should have gotten more playing time from the group stage n also in the knockoutstage... even if it's 25 minutes as a sub. In recent years South American teams cannot win the worldcup because there is bias when choosing players. look at Brazil they also had young talented players but they choose the old names and France sent them home. For many years Tevez play for Argentina but he never led the team to any victory. Why does Pekerman play Tevez for 120minutes.
Tevez wasn’t just a a run of the mill footballer, as you’re classifying him here. He was 22 and was an upcoming star who had won everything there was to win in South America. Won’t even list team accomplishments, but individually he won every award possible by 21: South American Footballer of the Year: 2003, 2004, 2005 South American Team of the Year: 2003, 2004, 2005 Copa Libertadores MVP Award: 2003 Player of the Year of Argentina: 2003, 2004 Summer Olympics Golden Boot: 2004 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Best Player: 2005 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Team of the Year: 2005 The fact that you’re classifying Tevez with Saviola and Cruz is disrespectful in itself. Also.. Just an FYI, Tevez also came off the bench for the majority of the 2006 WC. It’s not hard to look up lineups and stats from that WC. Blame perkerman for Argentina’s shortcomings that WC, but him substituting Riquelme + Abbondanzieris injury vs germany is the main reason they lost. Messi was also coming off a season ending injury, to rush a 19 year old into a huge match like that would be stupid. Seriously can’t stand people so uninformed about what actually happened at the time and try to blame everyone else for Messi not shining in certain eras (and this isn’t a knock on Messi, as he was literally a teenager). But more of you as being bias and pining blame without actually being informed. Research a little.
Everything about this video is insane to me. How shit the pitch was. How good Messi already was at this point in his career. This era of football was the best..

I remember back in 2006 I watched Messi highlights from this game 10s of times …it was clear that he was the next great thing in football even at that age…he was a deciding factor in that game against a mourinho chealsea that never lost a home game until that game
On February 22, 2006, an 18-year-old Lionel Messi lit up Stamford Bridge in a thrilling clash against Chelsea. Messi's fearless performance was a glimpse of the greatness to come. That night, Europe saw a star being born.
I watched the live broadcast of this match and there are 2 things I still remember to this day: 1. Messi debuts at UCL 2. The Stamford Bridge field is like a rice field.
Dude. Certainly ronaldinho, Eto, Deco, sold more shirt than Messi back then. I believe Henrik Larsson, Puyol and Iniesta sold more shirt than Messi 2005/6 season.
No one said anything about shirt sales, just that he looks to already be starting to peak here at 18. He was very very, good and people forget he got 2nd in ballon dor the next year and in 2008
Such hate. This is tribalism at its worst. When a prime Ronaldinho outplayed Real Madrid outstandingly, he got a standing ovation at the Bernabéu. When an 18-year old (!!) Messi outplays Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, he got wrestled by the players and jeered by the crowd. So sad...
Messi..how lucky are we as humans to have witnessed God's favourite son in action..but yes I admit I was a Chelsea fan in early 2000s with Jose as coach with the best defence line and Lampard Drogba Terry and other gritty men
Its funny seeing the state of the pitch for this game. Allegedly, Mourinho had them over-water the turf and in some areas the grass was removed to keep Barcelona from being able to pass and dribble comfortably.
At bearly 18 he was already among the top 3 players some already saying he was the best player in the world at the time and this is why nobody can play like this.

Man, I remember this match, Chelsea were playing so dirty. Just look at the pitch for instance. FIFA would ban Chelsea if they put a pitch like that these days. 02:36 would have been a red card plus 2 match suspension, 03:11 was at least a yellow card, 07:24 is a penalty!
Man, these guys are on Messi like white on rice. Holy cow. This defending is vicious. And even with that, this guy still does magic.
Mourinho was the coach, so you could expect that. Del Horno was lucky to not get a straight red card earlier on.
And Coutinho, after 16 or 17 years later continues using the same dirty playbook, while still fooling clubs to hire him and getting millions $, he don't fool me...lousy coaching at his best.
18 years and he took those tackles like a grown man meanwhile Vinicius cries over the little things 😂
That’s how it is ☠️

@@deyvidwillian still shouldn’t let it fuck him up. look what happened to Zidane. everybody is aware of what happened that moment, vini just had to defend himself because he wasn’t walking away. You always have to walk away ☠️

Messi 🔥Messi 🔥Messi 🔥(18 years old) 👑(2005-2006)22nd February......Phenomenal........ But after this legendary performance..... We all know that he was injured.. that's why we did not see him in the next five matches including the (UCLfinal2006) 💔💔💔💔😢
Messi was a Complete and Unique Beast in that time. Then later perfected the free kicks and the goal precision was Unique. Those Ballons d'or were meritorious.
This was the first time that I ever saw Messi play…I remember going into work the next day and it was all that anybody spoke about
Will never forget this game I was 15 years old and my high school soccer team went to the coaches house to get some motivation before our high school football final. Messi just stood out

Seeing young messi is like watching The Super Saiyajin before his first time transformation. You could already see something super special about him. Pure magic aura
A 18-year old Lionel Messi tamed the Chelsea's lion in 2006 as a club's homeboy
He was 17-18 years old at the time.
18 años tenia
This was the same Messi that got ignored by Pekerman at the 2005 confederations and the 2006wc.
Barca was already starting him against big opponents in the UCL but somehow Pekerman ignored him for Tevez
Messi was rather fresh in 2005. He got injured in April 2006, partially thanks to Chelsea’s Karate players. Otherwise he would play a more important role in Argentina’s wc campaign.
Messi should have started all matches at wc 2006, talent like this is once in a life time, eye see talent, play talent , pekerman was a joker
Won’t even list team accomplishments, but individually he won every award possible by 21:
South American Footballer of the Year: 2003, 2004, 2005
South American Team of the Year: 2003, 2004, 2005
Copa Libertadores MVP Award: 2003
Player of the Year of Argentina: 2003, 2004
Summer Olympics Golden Boot: 2004
Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Best Player: 2005
Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Team of the Year: 2005
The fact that you’re classifying Tevez with Saviola and Cruz is disrespectful in itself.
Every time Messi got the ball you can literally hear their booing, young Messi was so good he made a whole stadium boo for him.
Everything about this video is insane to me. How shit the pitch was. How good Messi already was at this point in his career. This era of football was the best..
O Ronaldinho prime y Messi flama jovencito... No... Qué locura hermano. Y en ese momento ni lo dimensionamos
Y Eto'o.
What the hell do they mean theatrics? That was a brutal foul. It was clearly very painful. These commentators aren't worth shit. At least Del Horno was sent off. Good.

Watched this...it was beautiful watching a player that was inevitably destined for greatness...
People see this and say messi doesn't deserve 2006 ucl. His fault to literally get injured apparently 💀
I remember back in 2006 I watched Messi highlights from this game 10s of times …it was clear that he was the next great thing in football even at that age…he was a deciding factor in that game against a mourinho chealsea that never lost a home game until that game
i actually remember this game. i was in college. i left class early to watch this game.
On February 22, 2006, an 18-year-old Lionel Messi lit up Stamford Bridge in a thrilling clash against Chelsea. Messi's fearless performance was a glimpse of the greatness to come. That night, Europe saw a star being born.
I watched the live broadcast of this match and there are 2 things I still remember to this day:
1. Messi debuts at UCL
2. The Stamford Bridge field is like a rice field.

So sad...
I'm a 2007 Chelsea Fan, and its crazy he was already getting abused when he was only 19.
This is first game I watched messi. And I was like..... What the talent.

best player touch the ball ever in the history of the game
Its funny seeing the state of the pitch for this game. Allegedly, Mourinho had them over-water the turf and in some areas the grass was removed to keep Barcelona from being able to pass and dribble comfortably.
Some prophetic comments in commentary about his future
Chelsea v Barca games in the champions league from 2005-12 were iconic
Lo pateaban, lo silbaban, y seguía peleando. Orgullo argentino
Was this the day he truly announced himself to the world of football
6:42 commentators mentioning his buyout clause of 100 mil pounds 😂😂 teams today can match that amount with a quickness
You have to take inflation into account. Back then £100.000.000 is around £150.000.000 which was outrageous back then.
