This IS real deal school with absolutely correct approach - learn on smaller bikes. How many adv "schools" all around with so may obvious mistakes and wrong techniques....sad. Thank you guys!!

Thanks for the tips. Took my 1190r to Moab last year and took it to a trail I didn't dare do on my klr the year prior. Love these bikes.

number 5 for sure! the ktm 1190 feels so light an nimble you'll forget how heavy it is somtimes.

Yup, you are right. And the new 790 Adventure R will be much more nimble and feel much lighter. I do own a 1290 Super Adventure, and I crashed it about 6 months ago. The damage is beyond repairable. Well, it is actually repairable, but the cost is about half price of the bike. So, now I am ordering a 790 Adventure R for my next touring weapon.

    Great vid :)
Does your clutch advice conflict itself? You recommend using the clutch as a power amplifier, but in the next point talk about slipping it for better control at lower speeds

clutch lever is your traction control, as simple as that.

When going slower than the gear you are in, it is slipping, but you are not reducing the power. Trust the torque, understand the clutch. Sorry for late reply....

What chain lube do you use for the KTM 1190 Adventure R if your riding is 50% on road (city) and 50% off road (gravel, dust)?

Tip: Practice on REALLY small bike ...even a tiny xr80 or whatever ...the smaller it is the more you can experiment and LEARN with bravado! If it is at all intimdating? then you probably wont push BEYOND the limits of physics and hence? You wont learn

If you cannot throw around a xr 500- or KLR 650 like a toy.....Don't waste your time with an adventure bike. A 450cc is as much as most people need 😎

Hhmmm...but an adventure bike can also do a lot of things that a 500 EXC can’t, or things that wouldn’t be very enjoyable, like riding from Germany to the far side of Russia and back, like I did on my big KTM Adventure, probably 40% offroad. 30,000km return. I’d never do that on a 450 or 500. I was on the road for months and carried essential gear required for remote areas in a foreign land, that’s what these bikes are for, not just Sunday rides through the desert. They’re for Adventure, which is sometimes 120mph fully loaded on an asphalt highway, and sometimes gravel roads and single tracks in Siberia. A 500 is too small for those Adventures, and that’s why you don’t see them in the middle of Siberia
