This song's been kicking around since Kid A. I can only imagine the dozens of iterations it went through before it got here. Hell, it was probably a modular techno track and free-jazz track at some point, knowing how this band works.
I wish they just made one massive album of all of the demos and alternative versions of their songs, sort of like what they did with Morning Bell Amnesiac.
The tonal and rhythmic structure changes within this song are incredible difficult, but these gentleman make it all look so simple - what a brilliant performance ....
the 2 drummer dynamic really set this song off on a different level. Also Thom, Jonny, and Colin matched their intensity. Ed providing the atmospheric vibes as always. What a banger!
it's just so lacking compared to these performances. can't help but think of what it could've been, and it makes listening to the studio album so disappointing

When it first came out, I did not understand "The King of Limbs". I remember not liking it and being disappointed in the album, especially as the "In Rainbows" follow-up. Then I saw these performances and everything changed.
Totally agree. This performance cemented the album for me. I thought Thom took over the band with sequencers and other electronica. This shows it was not the case. 😊
SO much better than album. But then the whole album is better during these basement sessions. Particularly this one and first half of the album. But the whole thing too really. It's so strange to me that they didn't get the album sounding like these versions

It was a serious with Brandon Gleason a retired policeman who was looking for this murderer who lived in his mother's cellar. Very weird personality and devious as well. I love how johnny echos thoms voice with how he plays his guitar line on the chorus. it sounds like he's playing it wrong but it adds texture.

2:40 Just chilling as if it weren't a straight up genius bass line for this break...
At this point Ed isn't so much 'playing' the guitar as he is painting with it.
Colin's idea makes this the best version of this song.
Bruh i see you everywhere in a radiohead related videos
his idea for a bass line wasn't bad either. back beat is sensational on this song.

Todd’s backups mixed with James’ Melodies coupled with Stephen’s acoustics on top of Yusuf’s percussions make this live performance crank.
This must be the most dense song of Radiohead...so amazing all players in the band can keep the rhythm at this awesome quick speed!! 👏👏
honestly this camerawork is cool af
The way this song takes off, the tone, and everything about it is just the best.
