Now that’s a perfect build in my opinion. Light and nimble!

Great video! A tip for getting the new bearing on the steering stem: a jack handle will slip down over the stem onto the old bearing and then you can smack it with a hammer. That way the new bearing will go on evenly.

      That’s a great idea, I appreciate it!

I was imagining a better way to do it when I was watching it and that’s what I came up with in my head too lol. I also just used my jack handle as a snipe to bend my handlebars back to straight!

Just a tip When you rebuild the top end, you should bore it to a 250. These early kawis are super mean when bored to a 250 💪

Love the videos, just got a 91 myself. About to do a deep cleaning, since it already runs well...but..@9:03. Why are there leaves that dry up and look like a evil witch with a big chin watching you...🤣

I always run Amsoil Dominator at 32:1. I ended up selling that one though and I’ve got a 2003 220 now. I’ll have the build for that video up soon. You can try selling some extra parts on eBay, some one is always looking since they don’t make parts for them anymore.

How long did the whole tear down and put back together take you, hours wise. I have a 1997 kdx 220 I'm thinking needs.... some love... and money. I'm trying to budget time and $$ any advice.
Have plenty of experience with bikes just not a complete tear down and rebuild.

Luckily for you, I logged all the hours! Totaled right at 18 hours. If you watch videos of what to do before you do it, you can prevent a lot of wasted time. Good luck!

No problem man. As far as cost, everything I did in the video cost right at $500.

For me my stock carb is junk I tried a JD Jetting kit plus cleaning and new gaskets (normally all I need) but this carb is so far gone I'm going to install a lectron carburetor $515
New top End $150 with gaskets
      New reeds $141
Compression tested at 90psi so I will start there and hopefully not a new cylinder then if I like the bike after the engine stops bogging, holds an idle, stop chugging/ leaking fuel and actually cleans out then and only then
Tires, bearings, caliper rebuild, master cylinders rebuild, rotors, brakes, clutch, seat, bars, levers, hand guards, bar risers, FMF full exhaust.
In that order I think.... the worst part is the bike looks clean... past owners only did oil changes and ran it hard no new parts on it ever. BONE stock, clean stock but used.

What do you think the bike is worth after rebuilding it like you did?

    • @doublewvideos3474
      @doublewvideos3474  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I sold it for $1300, probably say it’s worth right at $1500. It’s be worth much more if there was better parts availability.

Good question, piston looked good, rings were within spec so should be good for one more season!
