As an Irishman who has watched every Father Ted episode a trillion times and is a huge part of my life it really hurts watching this episode knowing that Dermot died of a heart attack less than 24 hours after it was filmed. Apparently when filming the dance scene Tommy Tiernan (Father Kevin) made a lot of mistakes and continually flubbed his lines which required this scene to be filmed a couple of times forcing Dermot to perform the dance repeatedly considering that Dermot was not well from pains in his heart he died the day after filming from a massive heart attack.
The episode was recorded on a Friday night and he dropped dead of a massive heart attack at a dinner party at his home the following evening. I remember it breaking on the news the following Sunday morning which made me burst out crying even to this very day. Dermot was years ahead of his time and the show is absolute legendary. Thank you for reacting to all the episodes and bringing Father Ted into your lives, I enjoyed the ride with you guys and laughing with you it was almost like seeing myself watching every episode for the very first time when I was a kid in the mid 90s.

Died the next day... The sadness of which was reflected at the editing stage in the decision to montage, and not cut to a funny bit at the end, as they usually do. The uncanny timing of Dermot's passing, one day after completing the final chapter of one of greatest comedies ever, has a poignant, surreal weightedness to it that is all very very Irish. Glad you were able to appreciate it. I think the best reaction is the whistle episode, hilarious from start to finish..

Im glad to see your emotion. Dermot Morgan died very soon after this episode. People believe he died from a heart attack from having to repeat the Shaft Scene over and over with Tommy Tiernan due to him laughing. Ardle (Fr Dougle) said at Dermots funeral to Tommy Tiernan (depressed Priest) "you killed Father Ted" in jokey way.
There was never going to be another episode. Graham and Dermot decided that was that with Father Ted. But, Dermot (Fr. Ted) was going to be a soccer manager in England in a new series under the Fr Ted creaters in a new series.
Here in Ireland we watch him still so often. You should visit us.
But, my recommendation would be react to Tommy Tiernan.

Nevermind eh, I have the whole series on DVD anyway and I noticed this episode was slightly trimmed, but not so much as to miss anything, really. I love the part where Kevin is on the bus and you can see the colour drain from his face, when Radio Head comes on, it was rather well done with the lighting I thought. The doco is interesting, with Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews discussing the series. On the DVD it comes in a couple of parts, so I guess that you'll get it in one go or maybe as a two parter. Anyways I'm glad Youse enjoyed viewing Father Ted, as much as I've enjoyed viewing it with the pair of Youse. Ardal O'Hanlon (Dougal) played a detective for a couple of years in a long running show Death in Paradise. I'll be honest it took me a while to accept him as the brilliant detective as I kept thinking it was Dougal in a new career path. A few episodes at least it took. I saw him do stand up just last week and he said people ask his wife whether he's as stupid in real life. He says he still gets this due to a 25 year old sitcom but nobody asks his wife if he's good at solving crimes despite that being much more recent. As for the sad passing, Jim Norton who plays Bishop Brennan says he cannot watch the kicking up the a*** episode because he finds it too painful as the episodes aired long after Morgan's death.

It was so sad that he passed on, not long after the filming the last scenes. R.I.P Dermot Morgan😢😢😢😢😢😢. Yes the writer's had decided they was going to end it with just the three series. You should definitely watch the I.T crowd by the same writer. It's just as funny as Father Ted one thing to be said about both is the writing is so good 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Your reaction to those beers was typical of every 15/16 year old Brit before they've 'developed the taste'.
Beer doesn't taste nice, we just get used to what's available where we live.

They obviously swapped the true ending for the compilation of clips, where the music starts. After Ted knows he'll be with them all forever, the script online mentions Kevin on the ledge again and Ted telling him to move along a bit.. obviously they didn't want to include that in light of what happened

With the British beers you often have to drink through the bitterness and get used to it before you can appreciate the subtler flavours. The Hobgoblin you were drinking was the India Pale Ale, which tend to be light but very hoppy beers, with a touch of a bitter taste. Hobgoblin's Ruby beer is generally less bitter. I don't know the stout you were trying, but even Guinness has an initially harsh flavor. Of the Irish stouts, I think I prefer Murphy's over Guinness.
For better British beers I'd suggest trying a sweeter ale, like Flowers Original, or for something really special Theakston's Old Peculiar.

What about reacting to the brilliant Scottish comedy Still Game? It looks like the first 6 series are available but when the writers Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan put their "differences" aside after ten years and brought it back the final 3 series seem to be very copyright protected by the beeb. But in all fairness the first 6 series were the best.

And all credit to the Irish for their absolutely superb mastering of the performing arts 👏😁
Ardal, son of an actual government minister, went on to star in another brilliant series called My Hero (George Sunday) which was a hilarious portrayal of a super hero who settled in the UK with a health centre nurse, and because he saved from death and fell in love with her so ended up living with her in Northolt.
Of course, the king of Irish comedy was Dave Allen who took the UK by storm in the late seventies and for two centuries after. 👍
If anyone who hasn't been to Dublin and Ireland, then get yourselves over there ASAP. There are only 700 + pins in Dublin, so...
