As Dr. Sproul taught this wonderful lecture, my mind was captured, within the moment, like a magnificent piece of art with a mesmerising view, my eyes were opened. I LOVE the way Sproul tells stories during his lectures for the sake of deeper understanding or to give a clarification or emphasis for his students and listeners regarding the points he states. He was truly gifted in the art of teaching, a rare combination of teaching along with storytelling and other qualities. To me, he definitely stands out as one of the BEST. It's Like the Beauty of Poetry and Art!

How many Christians have had an encounter with Jesus where they have been fearful because of His holiness?

Can't say it's with our blessed Saviour exactly, but definitely with the Lord. Distinctly remember what it feels like to come into the presence of the Holy. It's unreal. Dread and horror don't even begin to describe it. It dawns upon you suddenly and unshakeably that you are a creature: a sin-tainted, defiled, pygmy of a created thing, standing (or lying in my case) in the presence of that which is utterly and immutably Holy. And the only thought I which could run through my head was "Oh dear. I'm actually going to die," for that which is impure cannot stand in the presence of that which is Pure. This was followed by a mysterious, unexplainable peace, which I might add was equally stressful on one's Spirit - but in a good, warm, cathartic sort of way, almost as if to say "go in heavenly peace."
Only later when I read the Holiness of God by the late Dr. Sproul did I find out that this was the uniform report of both Scripture and Dr. Sproul himself about what it's like to encounter the Holy. Can't wait for the day when I get to experience it again, whichever side of glory that may be. Hoping that you do too. Peace and Grace.

@@surelock5921 For me, it was approximately three and a half weeks of running around like a headless chicken, after the Holy Spirit convicted me of sin. I knew from that moment I was hell bound and nothing I could do could change it.
After this I was directed to read the crucifixion account in the gospels and Isaiah 53. This I did many times, each time I was asked by a faithful believer, "What does the crucifixion of Christ mean to you?"
I then had a vision, but it wasn't the vision that I'm trusting in for my salvation, it was what Jesus had accomplished that changed my life for ever,
I saw a bloody pulp, it was incredibly holy and I knew I was incredibly sinful, I recoiled in horror at what I was and what my sin had caused. At the same time I knew He loved me and that He was beaten, scourged and crucified for me, my sins were forgiven and He had made me born again and like you I too was filled with peace. I wept with tears of joy and sadness, that He did that for me.
When I met that faithful believer later in the day and told him what had happened, he just said, "Ah, the mercy seat."
One day short of a year later, I was in training to be a missionary, taking the gospel to where Christ was not yet named.
      Carl, just journeying through.

@@surelock5921 Interesting, the way u mention the holiness of God as being fearful, but perfect love cast out fear. I had a dream about a month ago and the evil that was exuding from the woman I saw, after I rebuked her in Jesus name, was terrifying, I woke up shaking, cold sweating, asking father God, what kind of evil is this?

If a person really wants to know God and wants to believe how can they resist if they listen to RC and understand how much he has studied about our Lord. They can't

12:30, the Pharasee's righteousness was revealed to be filtyh ragels the moment Jesus came. They were so accostomed to the acclamations they received for their hypocritical 'righteousness'. I think this is why Paul exhorts so many times "do not be conceited", usually shortly after talking about living a holy life (Rom 12:6 and gal 5:26)
20:00 Peter, in seeing the miracle, immediately connect that to Jesus and saw his holiness, and sequence, saw his own sinfulness. It was the presence and power of christ, next to the standard of perfection and purity, and in the presence of the one who was altogether holy, Peter could do nothing but immediately see the drastic, infinite contrast and therefore, tremble and quake.
24:04 they hated Jesus because He was holy and spoke with due authority

The pharisees said why they were infuriated. They were afraid that everybody would convert to the preaching of Jesus if they let him continue; then the pharisees would lose their positions of power & the Romans would come & destroy Jerusalem because the people wanted to proclaim Jesus the King in place of Caesar. Since Jesus could do so many miracles, the people believed he had the power to overthrow the Roman tyranny.

The "Peter Principle" is exactly what is happening at my job. With one caveat: The people that are rising even though they are incompetent to do that job, are being sheltered by people above them, for whatever reason. Others that would be excellent with these jobs are being passed over (not talking about myself). It's really hard to respect upper management when you see this going on....shame.

I believe the reason the people in the town where He cast the demons into the pigs asked Jesus to leave was because they realized His divinity and they didn't want to give up their sinful lifestyles.
