I think they could have one freebie. Then next time they die they get a consequence, like developing a fear of what ever killed them. And if they die again that’s it their dead.

I think you should roll a 6 - sided dice and 4 numbers they could be whatever numbers you wanted would be you would be able to lick their wounds and they could live on but if it landed on the other 2 that's it for them so it's like if it lands on the other 2 the injury was so severe that it just died? Also, about the Coniferous Forest, that is currently the only map in the game, so yes, everywhere is called the Coniferous Forest because it is describing a map and not necessarily a biome. And a group of cougars I believe is called a range.

Maybe roll a dice to figure out a weight and then once they reach that wight you can no longer save them

10:25 That's where my foxed denned for a bit! Until she found a better one at The Falls (access to fresh water vs salt). She loves crab. Mostly because I was having a hard time with the controls for hunting and she had to scavenge until I got the hang of it. I have to use the arrow keys to navigate because I cannot use my left hand well, and the WASD keys are really difficult for me to use.
Edit: Also, does anyone know how to land when laying as a bird? I cannot figure it out, other than flying until I reach terrain at my level.
From my very little experience as an eagle, i can tell you that I land whenever I sprint and lock vision towards the ground, or any location I want to land on.
Cougars do not live in groups as do lions. The only time you will see more than one cougar at a time is when a mother is with her cubs. Do cougars live alone or with a group of other cougars? Cougars are solitary animals. Young cougars may spend the first two years with the mother, however
If this helps, since the game does show their age, they can stay with their mom up until 2 years old

I think a trial system could work, ie the first time they go down is a freebie, but the second time and on you have to roll a dice or flip a coin and if it lands on say 1-3 or heads, they live, if not, they die. But that’s just my personal take on it.
I don't know if you know but you can see characteristics of All animals in your family if you press E while you're in statistics

Jay did you murder the wolves they did nothing wrong they where probably wondering and their territory how would you feel if first redwood got murdered then olive got murdered and then willow got murdered in couldn't save any of them

I really admire your peaceful viewpoint and it's really good that you're caring for their lives. But animals only care for their own survival and it's unnatural for cougars and predators in general not to kill the young ones of other species, because they either consider them a future threat when the young are predators, or easy meal if they're prey. In real life, you're right though, animals wouldn't attack a whole family, not because they have compassion but it's cause they don't want to risk hurting themselves if they aggravate the parents. Usually, animals don't kill each other out of no reason in real life because of fear for their own survival.
