the performance of Emma in this episode is so shocking. You really see the pain, the sorrow, the fear in Rhaenyra's eyes. I really hope you guys invite them to the podcast. One of the best things about this episode was the connection between the dragon and the rider. Syrax screaming while Rhaenyra is giving birth, Arrax scared to death before the fight with Vaghar, Syrax agitated on the bridge feeling rhaenyra's discontentment about Otto, Vaghar feeling the hate that Aemond cultivates over Luke. Omg AMAZIIING. Great job you guys.

Ryan Condal's interpretation of the book in relation with the show is perfect; as someone who literally finished the book while the show was on air, I agree with his standpoint completely, that both the book and the show are meant to compliment each other and create one cohesive story made up of equal parts facts and heresay, GRRM is a genius and you can see how much Condal love and respect his work

Daemon reacted in a way that is typical for persons who choose to funnel their emotions negatively: everything becomes anger and violence. Sadness. Grief. Confusion. Fear. Frustration. Sometimes, even joy can be threatening. It doesn't matter what his feelings are, but as soon as those feelings become uncomfortable for him to process because it requires him relinquishing control (such as crying or admitting he's afraid) he flips a switch and converts it into anger and violence. It's the same reason why he reacted violently w/ Rhaenyra when she started getting aroused in the brothel scene. He was suddenly faced with a situation he wasn't in control with, so he lashed out. It isn't surprising at all that he choked Rhaenyra in a moment of frustration. He's a typical domestic abuser. A lot of times they can be very charming and attractive, charismatic and loving. And then once in a while it's explosively violent and it get progressively worse with lulls in between until they kill you.

The fact that this is the first time we ever see him being physically abusive towards leads me to believe this was the first time he has ever hurt her like that. You could see how shocked she was at his sudden outburst.
If the show wants us to believe he has been abusing her for years, they needed to show it on screen, or allude to it. They didn't, so we can't really use head canon to assume this or that about him off-screen.

First of all: a HUGE Thank you! to both hosts, Jason und Greta. Since the release and the moment I found this podcast, I am enjoying listening to it so, so much. To get a deeper insight, to get to know, what the motivation was, either for the showrunners, producers, actors, is a pleasure to listen to. I admit, I haven't watched HOTD when it was releasing, as I wasn't able to pay for the streaming channel. So when it was shown on Free-TV, I watched it. And was pretty much impressed, because I felt, that this story is really bold, has multi-facetted layers, so much to tell about relationships, duties, responsibilities, weaknesses, strength, resilience, love, affection, friendships, growing, becoming. But it also shows, as mentioned in this episode of the Podcast, those moments, that are meanwhile cleanwashed, like childbirths. Fact is, that childbirths, until today, remain the deadly cause Number 1 for women, if unasissted with complications. So, from this point of view, these women, who died and die while giving birth or by trying to, still is a reality today. Still because of patriachal structures and/or lived out in the remote parts of this world. Where still those parts lack of a proper medical structure, hospitals, doctors, education. Refering to the childbirth of Rhaenyra in Episode 10, I cry everytime, I watch this scene. Like Ryan Condal said, Emma performed the hell out of it. I simply lack describing words, of what I see. So much courage of Them, to take the audience on this journey, where so much meets; in the end, Love and Pain of Loss and grief. Thank you, Emma! All the best for you and onwards, from now on.

As fucked up as the show got after season 2, season 1 of Westworld is still better than season 1 of HotD. @@hectormercado9209 no they’ve also made some changes lol, don’t kid yourself. Biggest one that comes to mind is Laenor’s death. In the books, he dies in a sword fight with his lover as he allegedly does in the show. But the difference is…the fight takes in Spice town, a town on the island of driftmark, not in the castle itself. And there isn’t one witness who flees to get the guards…there’s apparently dozens. It’s done in public in like a market place. And there’s no burning of the body to make it difficult to identify…it’s quite clear who it is and Corlys himself makes a trip to collect and examine the remains. Unreliable narrator or not, that’s quite a drastically different story and it’s not easy to play off as “an unreliable narrator” when there’s so many witnesses

He thinks the greens killed his beloved brother, viserys to usurp the throne and the grief of that news caused his wife to early labor and his daughter to die. I wonder how much of that is just a practical thing for the benefit of the audience. The dragons going rogue happens very quickly and it could have been disorienting to try applying subtitles to everything being said. A lot of people watching the show don't know the names of the dragons.
But, yeah, I think it also works in that it's a scene of two inexperienced riders panicking and reverting back to their first language. IIRC there was a scene a few episodes ago with Jacaerys struggling to translate a sentence from high valyrian. These kids aren't necessarily fluent; They probably just know a few commands. And the dragons wouldn't be fluent either.

What they don't get is that fans are not raging because they don't show Daemon as a hero but because they only show him as a villain! Frankly based on the show alone I don't see any redeeming quality in him.. they never show any good side, even his love for his brother is questionable. They delete scenes of him comforting his daughters ,allude to him ignoring the one without a dragon, show him not being a great husband to Laena, have him murder his first wife. The only thing most fans held onto was his love for Rhaenyra and the fact that he would stand by her till the end, and then they go on and butcher that in the last episode.. they didn't even show him comforting her, he didn't even look her way when she gasped in pain, even the scene where he is saddened by his daughter's death is cut short, and then the choking scene 🤦 There's nothing to love about show Daemon, other than his war scenes which was also not that long 😂 and all of these scenes I just mentioned was the choice of the show runners, this wasn't book Daemon! They chose to make him that way, they chose to change book Daemon and then they're surprised people are mad? And then of course Sara Hess is surprised people love Daemon.. they're sure doing a good job of forcing us to hate a fantastic book character

Something I wonder about the Dragon scene with Aemond and Luke and Vhagar and Arrax, is Aemond survived, so he gets to tell the story. To soften the blow of kinslaying, he tells that he didn't mean to do it. I mean I think he gets off on teasing his nephews, and who knows if he meant it or not, but saying it was an accident as he was the one alive to tell the tale/ history. Plus, we have to wonder if Otto and Alicent said the same thing to Aemond, not to provoke anyone, just go and get support by making a marriage with one of the Barratheon daughters. And also that Dragons are not completely controllable. They are still wild animals, and they were ridden by two younger inexperienced dragonriders. We will see more wild Dragons in the seasons to come and they don't always obey their riders either. I feel bad for Alicent too. She was caregiver for Jaeharys and Viserys, until their ends. Rhaenyra was also a young girl at the time her father name her heir and basically went against the war council before that only a male heir would succeed and ascend the Iron Throne. So sad that a family had to turn on each other and bring their own end to their Dynasty. Otto is one character I will be ok seeing get his ending for the seeds he created in starting all of this.

Why is people liking Daemon's character suddenly the topic of every conversation? It's not like I want him as my partner and companion in life, he is just a veeery interesting character. Even with his questionable decisions, he still has this moral compass that he follows and his redeeming quality was always his love for his family and Rhaenyra. But it's not like people like him for his "goodness" and kindness and ooh, wow, he's so honorable - certainly not, he is just interesting, unexpected, deeply layered and incredibly charismatic, ambitious too and now the showrunners are basically just screaming at us, people who like Daemon, ohhhh how dare you like him? I'm watching a show and I'm entitled to liking anyone I want. Also, their love for the Greens and Aemond is beyond anything. So, I can't love Daemon but they can shove a literal war criminal down my throat because apparently, when Aemond killed Luke, it was an accident and he didn't know that chasing a child with a dragon would not end well because well, dragons... But no, Daemon is a bad guy, not Aemond. I mean yeah, Daemon is not a protagonist but he is nowhere near Aemond who has no moral compass. Just needs to prove his worth to everyone who bullied him in his childhood. Aemond is a classic example of bullied children, who in adulthood hold grudges and have the power to do anything they want.

If you like Aemond because he's a wicked villain with a sapphire for an eye that's fine. If you think Daemon's cool for being calm and collected and for not giving a sh*t about others that's fine. Just don't pretend that they are anything other than who they are: nobles fighting over titles and claims and the smallfolk will be/have been the ones to suffer as a result because none of these royals care about them.
That also means you need to allow others the possibility of seeing these characters in ways that differ from yours.
