    Well, i dont know why you think Aegon asking "do u luv me?" was a stupid question. He understands that his mother is making him the king to run a puppet show and he will never be free in his life again. By making him the king, Alicent puts aegon in danger of being killed anytime by Rhanerya. I think it was a valid one to be asked. isn't it? I feel Alicent had no love for her son after everything she had to go through because of his sex freakishness. What cersei had for Joffery was love. For Alicent, Aegon is just a convenient tool to fulfill her wishes.

  • @tosmaa
    @tosmaa ปีที่แล้ว +7

    With regards to the comparison between Cersi and Allicent, I think people want to believe that your circumstance changes your personality which is not true. WHILE cersi has always been ruthless and ambitious even from childhood (as shown when she visited the witch when she was younger), Allicent was in contrast a sweet, peaceful and trusting person until her father threw her into all these. This is why, no matter how angry she may be, it is not in her nature to be ruthless or merciless. And her being manipulated by Larys is also part of her weakness as she has been manipulated all her life especially by her dad!

    • @Lillianbee21
      @Lillianbee21 ปีที่แล้ว

      She doesnt seem manipulated by Laris though, she knows what she's doing. Watch the dumb foot fetish scene again, she's complicit in providing what he wants for information. Jesus Christ is your creator and He loves you more than anyone else ever could. He wants to take all that weight, worry, burden, bitterness and unforgiveness away from you. Most importantly He wants to take that sin, shame and guilt from you. We are not meant to carry it but He is.
      God is holy and His standard for Heaven is perfection so how can we who have all sinned and fallen short of that perfect standard enter Heaven? We transfer our trust from man, from politicians, from this world, from ourselves, from our works, from our pastors/priests, from mary, from buddha, from allah, from idols to Jesus Christ who lived that perfect life and then laid it down and took the punishment that we deserved for our sins. Find a quiet place alone and humbly kneel before God and confess your sins before Him. Ask Him to forgive your sins and to save your soul. Tell Jesus you accept His free gift and ask Him to make you a new creation in Christ. God wants a personal relationship with you. Start one today. He absolutely longs to hear from you. Please don't put it off, we can die at any second. Eternity is forever!

    I don't know what show you're watching, but Rhaenys is not on Team Green. She's not a "free agent". She's not into the coup.
    It's interesting that the fandom is arguing both that Rhaenys was wrong to kill the smallfolk, but that she should burn the whole Hightower clan. That would have resulted in the deaths of innocents as well - and not just Helaena. There would have been more chaos, more death, more destruction. Additionally, Rhaenys probably didn't want to watch Alicent's children burn to death after her own children died from fire. How else would Rhaenys get her dragon out of the dragon pit? There was no way to take the dragon without hurting someone. And... how many of the people complaining about Rhaenys are those who support Daemon (killed his soldiers with his dragon) or support Team Green (killing people who support Rhaaenyra)? I'd also love to know how many men are complaining about the Rhaaenys scene vs. women complaining about it.
    The point of this story is that "is it always the innocents who suffer most, when [the] high lords play [the] game of thrones." Innocent people will be killed right and left, as they were in GOT. Martin is making anti-war statements.

    Of COURSE we know that she’s still alive! She is crucial in assisting with some serious revenge!

      Alicent is not the obvious villain from the book which is good because otherwise it would be very one sided and boring. I'm glad they humanized Alicent and made her sympathetic.
      I do agree they are not using Criston Cole the right way. I wish he was more of a thug and yes the Lyman Beesbury death scene was extremely dissapointing. Out of all the book versions, they invented their own death which was just underwhelming. Criston should have sliced his throat or thrown him out the window.

She wanted to see what she would say. Then she was disappointed. She saw her as a feeble woman who betrayed her own sex. As she said, kowtowing to men and upholding the patriarchy. Can't wait for Season 2. AeGOAT's reign is gonna be glorious. But sucks it's not gonna be out till like 2024. The coronation was amazing, finally a budget permitted real coronation at the dragonpit. Could've done without that "give something to the fans to be happy about" Rhaenys triumphal moment.

  • @eadred9164
    @eadred9164 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rhaenys hasn't read Fire & Blood to know of horrors to come. So her pre-emptively nuking half her own family would've been OP. Having said that, the Rhaenys bit was to give audience a 'send home happy' moment which wasn't necessary. The coronation was fantastic in itself. But gawd forbid the ''bad guys" are on top in one episode. Those who thought lowborns of KL have any obligation to support Rhaenyra are in for big disappointments. Aegon claims his birthright from popular King Jaehaerys' Great Council ordering that the king's firstborn male son is the next king. Viserys himself won it over Rhaenys like that. Best part of this was the politics, less dragons the better. Despairing mom version of alicent does highlight her humanity more than the colder iteration of the actual green council. A well needed adjustment imo but also a continuation of her Harrenhall or knife scene mistake. They've constantly shown subtleties in her character which the audience tend to wilfully ignore since we're watching this as a team sport and we gotta cheer team lovable manipulative dad. Her being more humanized shouldn't be an issue unless one wants the show to remain grotesquely tilted towards Black (Laenor death,Rhaenyra ordering Vaemond's death, etc)

    The point of a war of the roses type dynastic rivalry turned civil war is the process of escalation. Neither side starts of saying we're gonna commit the maximum atrocity in the most optimum way like a Bond villain. The march of events force things to spiral out of control. As one side commits something heinous, the other side wants "getback" and it elevates into a cycle. Therefore burning everyone down when nothing has happened is some sigma brain stuff but not something a rational actor would do. It's a shame Rhaenys didn't read Fire & Blood to be clairvoyant. If Cat simply poisoned the Lannisters at the Witnerfell feasts then she could've stopped AGOT. Robb Stark should've immediately executed Talissa as a suspected spy. He should've executed Qyburn to save the world. The austrians should've killed baby HitIer. Rhaenys killing a bunch of the peasantry actually adds to the smallfolk's distaste of the Targaryen regime and what they do later.

    "everything u feel for me….as ur queen." I can't handle that level of palpable sexual tension lol. Ironic cause in a way they are the cersei and jaime of this show lol.the last 3 mins aside,i thought this was an excellent episode. it felt like a white house political thriller with a "race against time" feel from start to finish suspense. When Otto was moving around these chess pieces, Beesbury screaming, Caswell hanging..I was on the edge of my seat. I knew how good it was when it had reactors already coping for compeuppance lol. Tom Glynn-Carney showed excellent range as Aegon. But it got overshadowed by 3 mins of a Rhaenys "happy ending" smdh lmao. This crowning ceremony was a visual historygasm, finally befitting a king in got verse. All the actors for Otto, Alicent, Aegon did a great job. And that "window in the wall of your prison" line is one of the best lines we've heard so far.

    Great episode. Classic GOT ending. Was it just me or was anyone else screaming DRACARYS!! HA! ON a serious note, love this podcast because I'm always curious to know what other people are thinking and talking about. I also love to hear from the perspective of the actors and directors. It certianly shares some light on things. I have a love-hate relationship with Alicent. Every time I think she's going to do right she turns around and let what people say get the best of her. Loved the convo between her and Rhaenys, and even though I wanted Rhaenys to burn them all at the cermony i'm glad she didn't. Because the mssage she sent to Alicent was "I could've burned you and your entire dynasty right here right now, but i chose not to". Such a great ending to the epsidoe. Kinda bummed next week is the last one. Oh and Jason & Great love the recaps every week, but if I may the death count was defintely more than 250. I would say closer to 1000. The coup didn’t happen because of the prophecy. The prophecy is simply a gossamer’s thread slipping away into oblivion (and the knife will be lost too by the end of the series I’m pretty sure). But the prophecy did not change 20 years worth of motivations. It seemed that only Alicent grasped for straws in Viserys’ last words to find a moral justification for what she was always going to do. It’s understandable for someone who was in such a psychological pressure for so long. But her motivation was always a prophetic fear of her son’s safety. For others the prophecy was simply a pretext. Otto was always set on having his blood on the throne. Many if not most of the Lords were always set on having a male heir. The prophesy didn’t serve as a catalyst for the coup. The coup was always fated. The prophecy served as a self-deluding moral impetus for Alicent and a pretext for others. . It very much fits the Fire & Blood Alicent trying to hide behind her self-righteousness. Neither was there a shift in the Queen's character. Alicent Hightower, who totally didn’t have any moral pangs of conscience in episode 6 & 7 and who plotted so coldly and successfully about Harrenhal (lol) and in the immediate aftermath of her son’s eye getting taken where Rhaenyra somehow came out looking good and oh Vaemond too, Rhaenyra again comes out on top by manipulating daddy dearest. This is exactly what Alicent has always been portrayed in the show. Ppl who had issues can just say that they don't want her to be even a little bit humanised instead of being shown as a cartoon villain in opposition to the cartoon Disney princess that Rhaenyra has been shown as. But it’s ok to whitwash all of Daemon & Rhaenyra’s crimes.

    I feel like Rhaenys did not torch the Hightowers then and there not only because she sympathized with a mother protecting her children but also because despite being on team Black, I think she still very much harbors ill feelings towards Rhaenyra especially with the death of Laenor. In a scene last episode, it is clear that Rhaenys does not quite trust Rhaenyra when she says she does not have anything to do with Laenor’s death.
    She is on team Black, but she hands the greens’ fate to Rhaenyra. Who is to say she does want Rhaenyra to suffer a little from this war? The scene with Meleys was epic fan service but it does not make actual sense

    This was a hard episode to watch for me. While I like certain characters on team Green, I really really hate Criston and Otto and watching them be so smug in this episode had me legit angry.
    Now, great job to the actors. That's what we're supposed to feel, but to not have a certain level of reprieve from these characters was hard and I think that's why this episode needed Rhaenys.
    Now, I love these performances and think what Olivia Cooke has done with Alicent is fantastic. That Ewan Mitchell's presence is my favorite addition to the show thus far. And the portrayal of Helaena by Phia is far too pure for this world. I am just so glad Eve Best was in this episode. She added the perspective of the audience by knowing what the Hightowers were doing is wrong. No matter how you feel about Rhaenyra, we know she is Viserys' heir and that Alicent misunderstood him and even more disgustingly, that Otto was planning this coup all along.
    So to see Rhaenys call out Alicent for always being used by and more importantly, being an active participant, in this patriarchal society was extremely satisfying. And to see her disappointment in Alicent, I think was crucial to her choosing Rhaenyra. No matter what she thinks Rhaenyra has done, she's not going to allow the Throne to be stolen from her. It's a really great character moment.
    While I'm sure we'll see the murder of Luke in the finale, which is going to devastate me, I also wonder if that's the inciting stress that cause Rhaenyra to also lose Visenya. Because in the book, it's all the stress after Viserys dies. This final episode could be one of the most devastating finales we've ever seen. I'm both excited and dreading it.

    I was blown away by the details in the coronation. It felt like watching Nicholas II being crowned in an Orthodox ceremony with all the hollow pomp & circumstance of a rotting system. It's what I'd always envisioned from a GoT coronation. Tom Glynn-Carney was terrific in bringing out Aegon's fear, hesitation, pride & euphoria all at once. I'm glad they kept the much despised Criston putting the Conqueror's crown on Aegon II's head. The Kingmaker is born! What the show's doing really well is the details, down to splitting the treasury or locking up servants. Usually the passionate debates, the treachery, the heartbreak are glossed over & we only see the regime change as "fait accompli". This bring to life the mechanism that historically goes behind a palace coup, which I assume is as emotionally taxing for the people seizing power. That's why I like agonized & conflicted Alicent more than her steadfast source counterpart. It feels way more flesh & blood. She vacillates but her messianic fear for her children fates her to make a cursed gamble.

    This ep was great in what it was supposed to do, give the new monarch time to shine...who gave a top tier performance with his mood swings, establishing Aegon II as far less one dimensional than Joffrey. Finally a proper GoT crowning. Rhaenys isn't aware of the book. She can't imagine the length of depravity and slow escalation both sides will go to, to kill her own kin at this point. That's Freefolk brain gigachad logic. *Ned kills Jaime in throne room and there's no War of Five Kings. Cat should've poisoned Cersei at Winterfell.* Tbf a fully Green ep without Rhaenys “good guy triumphal” pandering would been better. A Green heavy political intrigue focused ep, with lots of great visuals & ethical quandary. Gonna be a Microwave Attention Span Challenge for the “only here for Daemon making great value Patrick Bateman faces" crowd. I prefer moral dilemma Queen over ruthless ambitious F&B council Queen. Nuance of her has been lost on a viewership wanting her to fit the mold of a Disney evil queen. So this is a nudge in the right direction, that things are more grey from here. Her intro as an adult was her falling into Larys trap in harrenhal. So it's not a character change. Aegon & Alicent have been more compelling than the gas light goodie two shoes way Rhaenyra has been portrayed so far. If ur already blaming smallfolk for not supporting Slay Qween...hoo boy! do I got bad news! This is the copium ep. Folks seething before even the boy Aegon wears his crown.
    Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."-John 14:6
    "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in Heaven."-Matthew 10:33
    “For the wages of sin is death (hell), but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”-Romans 6:23

      That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. Your fictional god was a rapist...Mary did not consent. Jesus was a bastard - and there is zero historical evidence for his existence.

    When I watched GOT, I always felt like I wanted more of each storyline/episode. When I watch HOT-D, I consistently wonder why they’re wasting so much time on this stupid storyline. I’m starting to think one might be somewhat inferior to the other….

      Yup and Alicent comes off as a moron. They really ruined Rhaenys this episode after consistently being one of the best characters of the show.

      @@SeeFair23 Just feels out of character for Rhaenys since she is always saying "men would destroy the realm" yet here she is cowardly killing hundreds of civilians for no reason. These people did nothing, they were herded towards the coronation.
      Its very weird how the writers called this "heroic" and "good". The show is very feminist and anti-patriarchy but having women commit mass murder isnt doing any good.

    Other than Rhaenys' mass murder, her YASSS moment was epic! Although she proves that Rhaenyra and HOTDaemon or anyone else with dragons are idiots for not just flying up to the other team and burning them.........War avoided, dragons saved.....
