- (1988) A flamboyant man, Curtis Rousseau, who, with his partner, cautious Richard Bradley, tries to sign a prospective young singer to a contract with their fledging recording company. The singer, Jamie Sinclair, wants to sing, but her strict father, Harlan, prefers that she go to medical school. Curtis, realizing his outrageous personality will not impress the father, urges Richard to use his brand of persuasion. Starring Morris Day, James Avery & Tisha Campbell.

Not even 5 minutes into this and I know they shouldn't have cancelled it.
Morris gets almost no acting credit but he's been acting consistently since Purple Rain and has actually starred in more than one Sitcom.
Right! I was shocked. Him and Prince had a few movies Prince came out with around and after purple rain plus more he was in. This cast was bad ass on here, and it didn't even get a full season. Smmfh

Definitely has alot of acting roles, not a great actor though

I've never seen this show, but I can understand why because the network kept canceling black shows after one or two seasons even if they did well.

Some of these shows didn't get past one or three episodes before they were cancelled by the network because of "low ratings"
You have to have time to build an audience. Most of those networks only used black shows to build their business. Same as what Bounce is doing now.

Facts. Good thing, James Avery ended up doing "Fresh Prince" a year later and Tisha ended up doing "Martin" a few years later.
This was only a pilot! It never had a season.

I used to love seeing Ticha Campbell on TV growing up because I knew she would get to singing. This would have been a good show.

I agree with you..we loved Tisha Campbell growing up..anytime we saw her we watched. From Rags to Riches and her tv movies.. Campbell is an entertainer’s entertainer she is multitalented..had to be.

I remember that. I'm guessing that salon show was the end of his sitcom career, except for that one weird appearance on Moesha.

I would have loved this show. The writing, the acting, and the talent. All of it was good. Even the jazz flute joint playing in the background of the apartment scene was popping. I'm glad they all went on to have successful careers

I’d say based on where they all went. The term blessing in disguise could TRULY be applied here. I can’t imagine Fresh Prince or Martin being as successful without these characters. Which shows how iconic those shows really are. Which then extends to would Will Smith be what he became and all he has done. Martin same, Tisha Campbell etc. No Bad Boys, My Wife and Kids the list goes on. It’s like the premise of Its A Wonderful Life basically.

My guess is too many white producers and writers. Not enough, or no, black writers and producers. And, absolutely no blacks, nowhere near the top at ANY of these networks.
Seen this show as a young kid & 1 day it just disappeared .....haven't seen it or heard anybody mention it glad to see it again

This was a pilot (1st episode) that didn't get picked up. Hundreds are shot yearly during pilot season but few are chosen. These pilots helped to pay actors and crews bills. NO PILOTS WERE FILMED IN 2024.
This show was really funny and had good energy mostly because of Morris. I wish he had acted more

This show is good . Better than alf ,empty nest, perfect strangers , and many shows that actually had seasons .
Their audience was the majority here in America if mainstream America wouldn't watch it, it wouldn't profit them.
And Tisha Campbell has been singing ever since, on and off screen. You can tell its really what she was meant to do.

OMG I FORGOT ABOUT THIS. This was Tisha's show after Rags to Riches! This was the first show I remember James Avery from (besides him guesting on AMEN but I didn't remember his name from that).

Remember the one they tried to jam in with the Puerto Rican family? That was so weird. It never made it past the episode tie-in, so no pilot happened as far as I know. But it would've stunk.
