- In April 2012, Neal Morse decided to hold open auditions for a new band that would be US based. In an overwhelming response, nearly 70 musicians sent in applications and videos to be considered for what ended up being 13 Live auditions at Neal's recording home, Radiant Studios, in Nashville, TN.
What you will see here is Part 1 of a 3 Part series that will showcase this amazing and mind blowing process of sorting through some of the most incredible musicians we have ever heard. By the time we get to Part 3, you will know who this Killer 6 piece band will consist of and will know them better when they hit the US and World stage in July and October.

Well this explains where they found Eric Gillette! He's an amazing talent both vocally and guitar wise! Also Bill Hubauer adds his unique voice and excellent keyboard playing! What finds! I love this band!

I would have never passed the audition but it would have been cool to try. I play keys, guitar and bass. Just not good enough to make the cut. At least I know it and can admit it. Glad to see and hear the people that got the gig! More power to them!

Guy used to sing for a prog band named Spock's Beard, also sings for a prog band called Transatlantic (alongside the old drummer from Dream Theater, Mike Portnoy.)

Is it just me or David Wallimann looks very much like Roine Stolt?
Honestly Gillette is such an obvious choice for this band, especially with Portnoy on board. All these are top tear players and musicians, but Eric is pretty much the top 1% of the top 1%. He is the obvious choice, phenomenal guitarist, great drummer, great singer and a decent keyboard player.

Well the upside for all those who got edged out by Eric Gillette, they can refer just about any band on the face of the Earth looking for an overqualified guitarist, to this video on TH-cam.

I'm not sure about credits :) I may be wrong but one thing I'm sure of that he sang in Testimony backings. I came across couple of later on shows for later on albums that he was singing.. Rare you can hear him, rare you can see him; but definitely he is singing :) Go Randy, go!! :))
Moshugaani In some live shows, you can hear him singing the 3rd voice on the counterpoint vocal of "Author of Confusion". He does it every time that mr Collin is not on the drumms, because when he is, he sings that as well.

Brazilian guys sweeps sounded bad and out of place. Trying to do his own thing and it didn't work.
Except Neal disagrees with you since Adson got the job. Unfortunately, due to visa issues he was unable to become a permanent band member, which is serious shame because I've heard Adson play live in London with Neal's band. In the end, Eric Gillette got the place and he's brilliant too.

It's exactly why I've never done and will never take part in any "audition": the final point is just a "forced-smiling competition", what is the exact opposite goal of Music.
Guitarists are not bad, but doesn't impress me except Eric and not for his guitar palying, but for his Artistic/Music Feeling; music is not about technique, not even emotions... I mean, there are so much good musicians nowaday, for one guitarist froma country that is world-known there is like 10 others unknown but just as good. For example, if you like Adson, take a look to another awesome Brazilian guitarist: Oziel Zinho, and those are not the only awesome guitarists from Brazil, and I'm not from Brazil.. At All!
The Brazilian guy has his own voice,brilliant player!...the other guys sound the same...technical brilliance but lacking character.
Song Sabai Eric Gillette has improved a lot and he's probably as good as Adson right now.

Ha, fair question. He's one of those "most talented guy you've never heard of" guys. Big name in the progressive rock world. Just google him and read the Wikipedia page. I just did that myself a few weeks ago and I'm fast becoming a fan.

Jon Finn is probably the most talented player that showed up, with David Wallimann a close second. But I have to ask, Who The Hell (Heck for all you Christians out there) is NEAL MORSE???>???????? I know one thing about him. He's full of himself. Claims he knows Steve Morse. And that's it . That all I know so I don't want to judge him or anything. Pleeeeeease!

If you want to know who he is, listen to any early Spock's Beard CD's, or anything from the Neal Morse Band. He's only the best prog rock writer of the last twenty years. Your lack of recognition of him doesn't diminish his brightness one bit.....

You have no idea what you are talking about. Check out early Spock’s Beard, Transatlantic and some of Neal’s solo stuff. The man is a genius and not full of himself at all.
